One thing that should be better known is that, as of this date, when it comes to extending battery life (the number of full recharge cycles until the battery is significantly less functional), one should store the batteries at from 50 to 65% and only charge them to 100% just prior to the ride. Having a timer that will auto turn on and stay on for a set time helps the user to do this. Doing this could increase the recharge cycling life from 300-500 to 1200-1700+, depending on how the battery is stored. For instance, if after your ride, you have 15% charge left with one battery, you will charge to 50% by adding another 35% (15% plus 35% equals 50%). Note that each 10%, while charging the internal battery takes 15 minutes of charge so 35% tales 52 minutes of charge to get to the 50% in this example. If charging the main and one extender it takes 18 minutes for each 10% increase of charge.
Why wouldn't Specialized tell us this when we get the bike so our battery lasts longer? Also, thanks for your comment but I can't make any sense of your maths.
@@grazstarr I edited my battery comment to make the math MUCH easier to apply. Specialized has instructions for their battery in the booklet that comes with the bicycle. They probably don't go into extreme details for legal reasons.
Simple charge formula on a Gen2 700w battery is 22%/hr charge rate or part ie 30mins approx 11%. Dont count on the Mission Control 80% charge limiter which is unreliable.

Battery charger showing red while it is charging my extender - but the extender is not showing any increase charge - display has been stuck on charging the second bar for 3 hours?
daminasmith391: Yes, the Battery Extender can be used in the rain. Just be sure that the connections are clean and dry one the bicycle is brought out of the rain.
V8LC100: Store the battery at 50% and recharge it every 3 to 6 months back to 50%. The lithium ion batteries at this point in history naturally degrade over time, even without use. The expected length of time ranges from 3 to 5 years until the degradation is low enough to render the battery charge too iffy.
Nice video, but the whole system is not UL approved and is illegal in NYC. Instead of making so many videos, they should have used the money to get their E-bikes UL2849 approved.
Looked at the owners manual on my KSL, it doesn’t expand on why power bars or extension cords shouldn’t be used to charge. Sometimes (especially when traveling) I can’t always plug into the outlet directly. Thoughts?
Hey Jeff, thanks for your comment. If you can share your contact info, we'll gladly send you an updated manual that shares more about charging best practices. Alternatively, you can download the latest manuals on specialized.com. Thanks!
Jeff King: If you think about it, the source of the electricity is far from the outlet. Therefore, even plugging into an outlet, you are using a form of extension cord. The point is that, depending on the extended distance, as long as you have a sufficiently heavy duty insulated wire, a number 12 would do in almost all situations, you shouldn't be concerned. In distances of 25 feet a #14 should be totally okay. Note, too, that charging will take up to 160 watts or 1-1/3 amps so there isn't a lot of current either.
Iazurm's advice jives with what I know about electricity. But 160 watts could be delivered by an illegal zip cord. No one has answered your question about extension cords and I cannot think of a single reason why you could not use one except that the mechanical ground (back-up ground, equipment ground, bare wire) may not be continuous and you may get shocked if something fails . Not familiar with power bars, but I would be interested in a DC source for charging my bike, like a solar panel and a charge controller. I'll put a query up at the top.
EmanuelFuchs: The answer to this type of question can be easily found out by using google voice and clicking on music. But, since you asked, it's "One of a Kind" by ORKAS.
WHY is this a text-based video? This was a huge waste of time to create with out a voice over. Either give it in written form or actually provide audio. Was so excited to have this playlist going while working on my bike just to to be massively disappointed that I have to read all the info.
Hey Enzo. If your local trails are smooth and well-maintained, a "hardtail" may be the best bike for you. Full suspension delivers additional confidence when descending which may be a good thing while learning to ride a mountain bike.
FLORYNN100: If you are asking if the battery charges by deriving charging energy from the bicycle's forward motion, the answer is no, it doesn't. And for good reasons as the mass of the bicycle and rider would deliver such a small charge that the rider's ride enjoyment would be undermined. It works in cars due to the mass and speeds but for bicycles, at this point in time, it's a terrible idea.
SO MANY COMPLAINERS. Thanks for a decent, straighforward video. I worked this out in seconds after watching this. Thanks!

Where can I get a bike stand like that?
The battery keeps charging to 100% it charged tom80% the first 4 charges then after that charges to 100% reported it to spesh still no reply
It is a setting in your app to give battery a longer life.
Blows my mind that you should have to buy an adittional cable to use the extender.

If the green blinking lights on the charge socket is not blinking the cable is plugged, is the battery faulty?

How should we store the battery if not in use for an extended period? Will NOT charging it over time degrade the battery? Thanks.
