I just participated in an Iaido Competition last week & thought its a great informal introduction to Iaido Competitions - keep in mind this is a small Dojo internally organised tournament . But the gist of it should be standard. Enjoy!

this is super cool. as someone who is looking to start training iaido within the year, it is very interesting to see how experienced practitioners manage to look so calm

Most inteestiing, i've not heard of similar competitions here in England.
You looked more composed and smoother than the other contestant, who had a kissaki at termination of cut.

thanks 🙂 thought it would be interesting to show how some dojo does things - these little things they do is very motivating than just doing kata week after week 😆

Interesting, the focus on composure. Killing anything is indeed an adrenaline producing activity. I shot a deer a few years ago and the adrenaline dump was intense, and I became clumsy and forgetful. Having these ritual movements and mental focus with the sword must really be beneficial during an actual swordfight. I imagine the adrenaline was pretty high during the competition as well. It is very interesting, thanks!

The adreline is pretty much there trying not to forget what we are to do haha - sometimes we overthink of how we should imagine our opponent on the kata we've forgotten were doing a competition
