absolutely! strats and teles are essential! i thought about it but i was a little scared of getting too technical :( i can definitely make more videos in the future expanding on how to get the right guitar tone and talk more about gear, thank so much for watching and for your comment! :)
Not really, much anime op use a gibson lespaul, a semi-hollow gretsch, or a custom suhr with humbucker so it isn't really matter. The arrangement matter.
It's always the guitars that are the hardest in these J-Rock songs. They really love their funky strumming. It was something that caught me off guard when I first started learning anime songs being someone who mostly played blues and had very minimal funk experience at that point.
it was the same for me! it actually helped me to learn more funk which i didn’t quite like before and now i love it! Cory Wong has some great right hand technique videos, he’s the goat! even if it’s a different style i think it translates very well to J-Rock!
If you think the guitars are hard, try playing the piano parts. The people that write and play songs in this industry are all music school degree holders or dropouts, they study this stuff professionally before they make it big. Even if they aren't, the bar for quality and skill is really high.
I think one of the biggest influences on modern anime music (and why they sound different from older anime songs) is vocaloid music. So many anime music is written/sung by vocaloid artists and it’s really changed the entire J-POP landscape
It feels like there's a lot more math rock and jazz elements in modern anime openings as opposed to the more straight rock and pop elements in the older anime openings. This captures the essence of the newer openings and and kinda adds to what I think is happening in modern anime openings
comments are mentioning zutomayo + kitani tatsuya, which i agree with, but more than anything else the full song's actual structure reminded me of eve most of all! you hit the nail on the head!
UPDATE 2 !!! 1. NEW VIDEO OUT NOW! (link in the description!) i hope you like it :) 2. I'm still working on finishing this song so I can release it, now that my second video is out I can fully focus on this! 3. Still working on the tabs 😭 will post soon! thank you! indrop.
I am really glad you did it in this format, especially the 1:30 song to replicate anime openings + endings. When you blow up remember i am in you top 10k Subs 🤣🤣❤️
i will make that video soon! currently working on a different one but i will definitely do it as well because i also love mid 2000s j-rock! thanks for watching :)
On god, this is so damn good! Definitely reminds me of King Gnu and Eve (specifically Kaikai Kitan which is a good thing!). You absolutely captured the vibe of modern anime op. Instant sub, can’t believe this was your first video. I’ve been learning to play the guitar for a bit now but I’ve also wanted to pick up a bass too and this video just cemented that for me.
i was shocked when saw that this was ur first video. so high quality. proud to be one of the first people here, can't wait to see this channel grow. this just inspired me to make even more music xD. maybe I should try other DAWs.
thank you so much! i’m finishing my second video:) i’m happy to read that it was inspiring! also trying new daws can be fun! i used to only use Ableton but now i love Cubase!
I would absolutely be very interested in an in depth break down of your techniques, everything from the harmony writing to the production. I think Japan is one of the places in the world with the most sophisticated ears for music. I eagerly await your next upload, this is really amazing
i will definitely consider it for future videos! i thought about being more detailed and technical but i was afraid of people getting bored so i decided to make it simpler and fast paced but i would love to explain it more in depth in the future:) thank you so much for watching!
This is a bit general but Japanese pop tends to have a lot more jazz influence that other pop styles. Pretty much none of it actually is jazz but there are clear parts that can be traced to being some element of jazz. Improvisation, instruments and the general vibe of it weren't taken in much, but a ton of the theory was. This is why you generally see more colourful harmony in Japanese music generally for example. If someone knows what the role of a diminished7 chord is, they probably listen to music like this. There is also a bigger focus on modality, especially in games, though this has seeped into a lot of indie video game soundtracks nowadays as well so it's not really an exclusive thing anymore
Im not sure why but this single video just made me pickup my bass and start grooving my own parts to the song. Thats never really happend before. Thanks for the insporation
I'm currently in the middle of finishing my first complete song... It's amazing how I've been including a lot of these elements even tho I was looking more for a live math rock-y sound. This is gonna help, thanks!
Incredible work here man, I'm lookign forward to what you do next on this channel because you honestly nailed the sound of newer OPs and I couldnt believe this was your first video. Well done ❤
Bro, for a first upload this is phenomenal. Amazing music, amazing information, and amazing video. Keep it up because I'd love to see more content from you
I literally clicked on your channel and thought you would have a lot of videos because of how high quality this video is. I was surprised to know that this was your first video. keep on with the good work! amazing video!! looking forward to your future uploads!!!
My YT algorithm doing God´s work, OMG this was amazing!!!!!! It was so beautiful it gave me chills on the little pause right before the chorus drops. Hope you keep making stuff like this man, take care c:
Awesome video and an awesome tune! I'm gonna save and bookmark this and try writing a few songs following your advice. I love the Japanese pop and rock sound and have been trying to move more and more in the direction! Great video man, thanks again!
thank you so much!! some people asked me about the song too but i only have 1 min and a half so far :( but im going to finish it when i have time and release it everywhere!!
This is incredible! To me, the chord progressions are what separates j-rock from western funk and rock, that most of us are used to. Still trying to figure out the science behind this harmony though
thank you so much!! i will definitely do Indie in the future!!! i love japanese indie bands a lot and is probably my favorite genre in general, i want to cover as many genres as i can. If you want to hear some of my indie music production in the meantime you could check: “Geskle - Half of It” and “Poolfire - Periwinkle” I co-wrote and produced both songs:) they are not Japanese but you might still find them interesting. thank you again!
THE FULL SONG IS NOW AVAILABLE! link in the description!!! thanks for waiting!!!

You forgot to mention how instrumental a single coil guitar tone is to the modern anime opening sound
absolutely! strats and teles are essential!
i thought about it but i was a little scared of getting too technical :( i can definitely make more videos in the future expanding on how to get the right guitar tone and talk more about gear, thank so much for watching and for your comment! :)

Not just any electric guitar, a Telecaster.

@@yu.niverse facts!
your song felt like a fusion of zutomayo and tatsuya kitani and it actually sounds amazing
that’s a huge compliment thank you!! i actually love them both!!

there's nothing i love more than zutomayo
I think one of the biggest influences on modern anime music (and why they sound different from older anime songs) is vocaloid music. So many anime music is written/sung by vocaloid artists and it’s really changed the entire J-POP landscape

Dude you should make a full version of this song, it's so good
intro sounded like kairikibea, rest of the song sounded like kitani and zutomayo mixed.
