Vialles pentaly makes 0 sense. Asking for deegan to get one makes less sense. AMA needs to get their shit together. If you gain an advantage and pass someone it makes sense.

Vialle shouldn't have been penalized if Deegan wasn't penalized and Kitchen made that point known! If the riders don't think their position would have changed then it looks like the AMA is playing favorites. I think Mitch may come out with this win lol.
Vialle and Deegan did two totally different things. THAT is why Vialle was penalized. Vialle gained on the rider in front because he continued to accelerate. Deegan lost ground to the rider in front because he let off and then checked the track before re-entering. Follow the rules. Learn some motocross.
Kitchen made the point because Deacon beat him. They had the software to compare to previous laps to see if the rider game time. Deegan was only one that was penalized hopper would not be on here sticking up for him. I promise you that it’s a favoritism thing. Deegan lost the championship for being docked two positions.

You leave the track you immediately chop the throttle that is also written into the rules (not exact wording but pretty close to it) neither rider did that yet only one was penalised, the excuse that one was worse than the other is irrelevant because both actions were outside of the rules.

There were ppl going off the track everywhere. Honestly, I couldn't tell a difference between the track and the edge of it in some places.

If you want to make the off track rule fair with zero judgement calls then make it so you have to enter back onto the track where you went off the track. That would make for some serious consequences.
Yeah, that would be more fair for sure. But think about how you would feel if you were watching a crazy heated battle between the leaders with like 5 min to go. They get caught up in lapper and the guy in second, trying to avoid lappers comes off the track on accident. Then you would have to watch him slam on the breaks, turn around to go back to where he went off, turn back around again once on the track then race again. Meanwhile the once heated and exciting battle has turned into 15 second lead.
Now, would you still want to watch the sport after that?
The rule should be that you have to go back on the track where you went off. if you cant go back on there, you should have to stop in the mechanics area for a 5-10 seconds. There should be some negative result to running off of the track.
Let’s be real here, the rule is the problem, open to interpretation. It should be clear, timed or position, if you make up time your docked, if your stay equal or loose then give the penalty. Either that or time penalties based on going off track, maybe even warnings for 1-2 then 3rd you get a penalty. It just needs to be clear cut.

I don’t think there should have been any penalties, but when you analyse ‘unfair advantage’ you have to consider that an off track excursion should really result in loss of time. In other words, having the same distance to a competitor before and after an off track excursion means you did gain an advantage

Deegan, as mush as I dislike him, did everything correct. No acceleration, knew he was off the track, KNEW somebody would cry about it and held his hand up as a "My Bad". Seen that he was clear of traffic and back on the gas. Plain and simple. This coming from a person that likes and favors Kitchen.

I disagree. Vialle was in a CLOSE battle for a position(ahead) when he went off. Deegan in the second moto had a bigger lead than Vialle did when he went it iff and Deegan did lose a second off his lead. I think it would have been more Dangerous had Deegan slowed up and not been able to jump that double step up and instead was pussy footing up it.

If you dock Tom for going off once, then Deegan should have gotten docked for going off track twice. That doesn’t make any sense for the AMA to dock Tom, but saying Deegan is okay. What kind of BS is that, either enforce the rules, or the AMA just needs to go count all the money they make off these riders.
Tom stayed in it the whole off track and didn’t look at all when coming back on track deegan each time did accelerate but did look and check up as in not full throttle each time and lost time each off track he had via time tom gap got wider to deegan when he went off and gained a little is what I saw and I’m guessing ama saw

AMA took 40 minutes to hand down the Vialle penalty, 4 hours to make a decision on Deegan. They want us to believe they were analyzing the video on hi tech Dartfish software...this from a group that routinely fails to manage a 15 year old timing/ scoring program. More likely they were getting their stories straight before notifying the press and public.

Tom didn't gain...Deegan DID! When Deegan gassed it and cleared the jump he made up time he would have lost up the face AND clearing it. Points penalty equal to Tom or it's unfair.

We all saw the incident and the multiple replays, for deegan to say he was off the gas was laughable. He was throwing roost literally flat tracking around the jump, he cut the throttle only when reentering the track. I like him but straight up lying is stupid when you are on film doing it! But dock all the foreigners you want just not the usa guys

Are you impaired? Deegan has been unfairly screwed in every ruling except this one. DEEGS even got a warning for his baby ghost ride after his first sx win and Foreigner, Jett Lawrence, did the exact same baby ghost ride at iron man last year and not a peep was said.

In both instances the only reason Deegan ends up off the track is he over rode the conditions he was pushing to hard for what the track could handle and that's rider error.... Chase knew it hence the big gap he lost, yet we look at the other fast guys other than Vialle and Chase who else went off the track we dont see Kitchen Hymas Smith Swoll Savatge, Jett, Hunter, Cooper, Ferandes, all managed to stay with in track limits, so it's down to rider error...... if everyone was falling off the track in the same spot lap after lap sure you can say maybe the track was at fault but then again a good rider should be able to ride to the track conditions.......
@@user-ox4ys unless you have direct timing with his bike its hard to prove acceleration. Most of these AMA rulings would be thrown out of court if they were court cases. All.the riders used paddle/scoop tires at Pala so they kick up roost at a stand still practically. If you have mixed evidence, like with Deegan, as he may have accelerated, but you can see that he may have slowed too and he did look to get back on,then its not a definite thing l, its a judgement call. With Vialle, even though i can go either way with his, his incident is clearcut, he didnt slow, didnt look, and just kept going. If the AMA ruled not to dock him i would be ok with that but i at least understand his docking. I think the AMA likes to flex at times to show they are doing a job, their job, but end up being more like baseball umpires who become part of the game, sometimes bigger than the game, when thats not why they are there.

Neither should have been docked but in deegan's defense both of those lines he was in the ruts went directly off the track at the end of the corner and that's why he ended up off the track it was because of the ruts he was in Tom unfortunately didn't have that excuse of the ruts putting him off the track which is basically the only difference there one can be blamed on the track and the other can only be blamed on the rider
For more info,The latest Pulp MX show talked to Andrew Short who was the rider's adviser as these penalties were being decided.
For those who want the quick version: As the rules are stated,he agreed that Tom's penalty was deserved and they were correct in not giving any penalties to Hayden.
HOWEVER, he didnt like it because -in his opinion- the rules dont make total sense.
Tbis whole thing just makes the AMA look biased. And the fact they are never open and honest about how or why they make their decisions is just painful.

For everyone riding deegan's D, Sexton did it correctly when he went off track. You can say it's the same, but it's not. I'm not a deegan hater, but the difference is obvious. Either both should be penalized or neither.
F1 has an expert panel who is watching the race, leaving the track and gaining an advantage. It’s investigated in real time, no action taken, no advantage gained, or they say will be considered after the race . It needs to be settled immediately, no penalty for both incidents, real petty to dock Tom, very embarrassing.

Deegan actually went off the track a 3rd time. In the first moto going around that sweeping left handed 180 2 turns before the finish. He was chasing Levi and then he popped out of the rut to the left and cut underneath one of those giant yellow wall looking track markers the got back on. Kind of crazy that he is flying off the track left and right but nothing happened.
Tom went off and got back on immediately and Deegan roosted the track workers
It’s not an “off track” rule, it’s track cutting/gaining unfair advantage which imo would be cutting a corner short or accelerating while missing obstacles.
For the record, I don’t think vialle should be penalized. He clearly didnt gain time by missing the rollers.
Deegan definitely shouldn’t be penalized for going the same speed he would have been going to make the jump. If he didn’t go off track he would have been on a straightaway and not had to check up and look around to get back on.
Going off track and accelerating can also be a safety concern. I think the rule should say you have to come to a complete stop after leaving the track, then you can accelerate and reenter safely.
This video changed my perspective especially after watching Chase. Make outside of the markers a no roost zone and if you spray then you get a penalty.
Toms acceleration was the worst offender, also there are other rules about reentering the course. I've seen mud races where many top riders intentionally pretended to go off the track to avoid a whoop section. So this stuff is always going to be a judgment call by the officials.

It should be like MotoGP, over there if you’re racing someone and cut the track you need to lose an extra second when coming back on. If it’s clearly not an advantage, such as running wide past track limits they give them 2 warnings followed by being penalized on the 3rd offense with a long lap (basically 5 second penalty).
The AMA needs to get their shit together. Penalize both or penalize neither. Between Coombs and the AMA they're going to ruin this sport. It pisses me off. Two sets of rules: one set for the common man, and one set for the anointed. Hey, wait, that perfectly describes our government.....

So many people were flying off the track other then those pentilized. But I do agree with you about Sexton. He did the best he could to be safe running off and entering the track. Deegan had three incidences. But Tom was the most aggressive. These guys are flying as fast as they can around the track with their adrenaline pumping above 180bpm. It's a tough call and a fine line within the rule book spinning it in different directions. For some of the track run-offs i noticed there is a reason why the fence line for the spectators are much further from the track than other spots. Back in the 90s the main camera crew had platforms for this reason. As for all the riders this has been going on for decades. Riders are always looking for the quickest and most efficient way around the track, so if they see a rut that happens to be outside of the market they are more focused on the rut and it's condition rather than if it is inside the track marker or outside. As for every sport, most elite people are always gonna try to fide ways to push the boundaries within the rule book. Even for The teams. Mitch has been in this sport for a very long time, I believe he is a master for pushing those boundaries on or off the bike.

If they’re taking points for coming off the track then maybe the track builders should be fined for not preparing the track properly. Both Vialles and Deegans off track excursions could have been avoided if the turns were prepped properly
the whole argument that viale and deegan were equal in that section is basically saying he gained an advantage. going off the track and not losing time seems like advantage to me .deegan lost time when he went off battling kitchen went from almost next to him in the corner to multiple bike lengths behind...
I think the difference is that Vialle would have lost a position if he slowed down off track - he gained advantage by trying to keep his position- where Deegan would not have because there was no one that close behind - and Deegan did back off.
Has the AMA ever said "when you go off the track you should always lose an advantage?". Because otherwise, it is okay to maintain a decent amount of speed offtrack to "maintain" the gap that the rider had and of course the riders will try their best to keep the same distance they had before.

That is the problem, of course Deegan caught up to Vialle being on track. If Vialle didn't accelerate he would have lost that position to Deegan. Hence it was and advantage to him by the acceleration. As said, Deegan was right on his rear at the end of the section and would have led into the section had Tom not accelerated. In Deegans cases he didn't gain an advantage or like Vialle accelerate to keep his position.
Bring on the protest! At the very least it will force the AMA to more clearly state it's case. It might also make the more stupid fans understand how the rules work.
Can anyone find video of the AMA's announcement? I think it might have been around press conference time.As i understand it the officials didnt have a problem with acceleration of either rider off track.They measured time lost/gained and found Vialle GAINED time,and Deegan didnt.
I heard the number was 0.41 seconds BUT HEARD THIS SECOND HAND, so take that with some skepticism until proven.

Vialle should get his points back but to be fair the body language of Deegan and Vialle was so different while out there. Vialle powered straight away 0 Fs given while the other one seemed to care a bit more that he was off the track.
Budds Creek full restart halfway through the race when deegan was leading, hurt his chances at the 2023 MX title.
Fined deegan but not Jett for ghost riding bike.
Penalized only deegan out of 4 total riders off track at Birmingham supercross, hurt his chances at 2024 SX title.

Vialle did not deserve the penalty and his position should be reversed. None of the track excursions were deliberate and no noticeable advantage of any kind were evident.
The AMA was feeling bad from last year's red flag incident were the Deeg's got screwed so they gave him a pass on this one to make up for last year, so there you have it
Tom lost time when he went off so he penalised himself...so the AMA made the wrong decision . Tom did accelerate but it was a safe rejoin.
The penalties should not be docked positions it should be a time penalty which should be given out during the race as soon as possible after the off track...then the rider can try and make that time back during the race , that's if he can get the message from the pitboard.
Docking positions for one minor rider error is ridiculous to me. The riders are working all year for success week in week out , so to take points from them for literally nothing is not a good look.

Couldn't be any clearer, what Haiden and Tom should have done, it exactly what Chase did. Chase had respect for the rule and the sport.

Ok from your vision and the use gps Vialle never gained an advantage and was docked a spot, both accelerated and missed obstacles, and Deegan does it twice, and was close to a track offical on the first one while accelerating, so for all those saying he gained no advantage is just ludicrous you missed an obstical and accelerated that is gaining advantage, in the second on there is no way to make that big jump without carrying speed so there is the advantage. Was Deegan the fastest rider on the day absolutely he was would he have still won both motos, if he didnt go off track probably no one is denying that, but rules are rules.

The AMA has given a very loose explanation on why Deegan wasnt penalised and yet is so easily disproven by every analysis watching or taking the time to actually break it down..... makes you wonder..........
It should be a time penalty if they determine the rider did not lose enough time when going off track. Tack a couple seconds on to each riders total race time and see where they finish.
Make this a known way of penalizing and we will still see great racing after an off track mistake because the rider will now have to win by a margin to make up for what they did. The added time should be more severe than the rider actually slowing down though in order to incentivize slowing for safety reasons.

AMA has got to be biased here its a no brainier both accelerated off the track so both should have penalties. Deegan should have 2 and Vile 1. Accelerating to get back on the track doesn't necessarily gain an advantage but it does mean you probably aren't looking to make sure you have a safe re entry point. You could miss a flagger waiving caution if you are on the wrong side of a jump or even not see a rider.
Pretty sure if Tom looked back when entering they probably would of let it slide...

The deegan thing is tough, i was there in person right at that section and about 15-20 riders did the exact same thing deegan did all in the same lap. Only 1 actually checked up and didnt clear the tabletop. I think thats what ama was looking at. Penalizing deegan would mean penalties for 15-20 more riders. (Deegan was the only one inside the top 10ish to do it tho🤷♂️) wish i took a video☹️
Let these young men race .... fans love it ..... neither Tom nor Haiden gained a position. What do they have to do stop until someone behind them goes by 😅. It was a great of racing .
This situation is vague cause that single rule is so vague that pro riders and teams dgaf. Until the ama revives the whole rule book with stricter rules and no loopholes we'll continue too see these types of situations continue.
Vialle had to be docked as you can’t do what he did, now if you know anything about rules you will know why, but as I said yesterday Deegan should of been docked, now the AMA is saying Deegan lost 2 secs, where is the data for that? He accelerated and I think in an unsafe way due to two people trackside he blew past, the AMA and the Deegan name man, I have my doubts, protected species.
This isn’t where the AMA needs to classify or have a better classification as to cutting the track. Guys at full speed flying off the track such as Vialle,Deegan did, and for that matter Sexton. They are not cutting the track. They simply flying off the track trying not to crash. I simply trying to get back on the track so they can continue to race.
The AMA is a bullshit organization that begin with and never could get their shit straight from the very beginning to motocross. They wanted nothing to do with motocross. I’m talking early or late 1960s. And their main sponsor was Harley Davidson and Harley Davidson didn’t want anything to do with Japanese motorcycle companies Honda Yamaha, etc. flats start dying out the AMA motocross as their new golden goose but even in the early days they could never make decisions on things because it wasn’t as cut and dry as flat track. I will leave my ranting and raving at that and just go with the AMA is a bullshit organization along with Feld and Davey himself not doing “Shit” for the rides.
everybody since the beginning (including me) has been saying you dont need to gain an advantage to get penalized but this is ridiculous. Its in the freaking name of the rule "gaining an unfair advantage" by "cutting the track".!!!!
Does anybody think any of these incidents that we can see (deegan,vialle,sexton) that they actually gained anything by going off track? If not, then nobody should have been penalized. The solution is to just give Vialle back the 3-3 he actually had.
None of this needs to be a judgement call. There is sofware out there (dartfish probably can do this) where you can pick sections of track and get the exact time it took to go from point A to point B, then compare how long it took on the lap where the rider went off track to their best time through that section during the race. If it's an improvement of that, then it's a penalty. If it's slower than that, it's not.
This isnt that hard.
