Another pro-tip, get a case that has generous grabbing points so you can pick it up easily. I got this stupid full atx cooler master case that looks nice but it has absolutely nowhere to grab other than the middle bottom area which makes it impossible to pick up unless you wanna give your spine a nice bend in it.

I made that tower cooler mistake on my IN WIN case which has a tempered glass side-panel. This meant there was no room for flexing/forcing, so I had to purchase a water cooler as I really didn't like the beige/brown colour of the cooling towers that lie flat rather than stand up.

With cheap cases, some holes don't even fit. For instance, when inserting extension cards, the brackets don't reach the end of the case so that can be screwed to the case. In this case, you either leave the card just hanging on the motherboard slot, or make a compromise and last pins of the card be well raised from the motherboard slot and risk not making contact.

Considering building my first rig. Not sure any case has exactly what I want.
Like to have an optical drive or 2, usb3, fan control, lights perhaps for future updates, probably just use air cooling. Hard part though is I want to have like 4 bays for SATA/SAS removable HDDs. Preferably just open the front panel or a section of it then open the drive holder and change the drive. I like the looks of the cases with some windows in them too.
I plan is to use ATX MOBO, like to have at least 2 PCI-E X16 slots as that will handle any other card so I can have a GPU in one and whatever I want in the other. Probably have a few smaller X8slots too IMHO X1, X4 slots are pointless when can put more things in the larger X8 or X16 slots. It would be nice if it had 1-2 legacy PCI-X slot too as that would let me use old PCI, PCI-X cards.
Thinking either Ryzen7 or I7 32GB RAM, simple ~1GB GPU, more horsepower will be for running VMs, etc.
Many cases I see though have odd shaped tops, I'd rather the top was just flat so I can set things on it, etc. Someone said Coolermaster was probably best bet.

You should have equally pulling in and pushing out. If you have dust filters, then you should rather put 3 pulling air in and 2 blowing it out, because when all the air inside gets pushed out, it will start pulling the air in from any holes the case might have, also taking the dust with it.

You could have picked a better picture for the micro atx case. the Air 540 is an atx case that is capable of using micro atx. And at its size its not what I would use for a micro atx build. As an Air 540 owner I can tell you its not small considering its taller than most mid towers but shorter than a full tower but wider than both because it is a cube case. Also I think you should have talked a smige more about actual case size (full, mid, cube, micro).

I wish you would do a video featuring a recommended build from this year's best components (or the components that have the best price/performance ratio). Maybe not a fantasy build, necessarily, but a poor man's everyday machine that runs in the $800-1000 price point that is better than the average Dell or HP.
I have never built a computer before, and would love to, but I would love to watch someone do it first and walk me through the steps (I know you kind of do this in some other videos, but those seem more like showing that it can be done, versus "this is how...", if that makes sense). I also want to make sure I'm not wasting money on hardware or mods I don't really need because some nerd/genius/guru at the computer store said I should buy them to pad his or her commission. I would rather build something from parts that I know you recommend, especially if you have tried and built the computer already. I would even buy the parts from your Amazon Store-- maybe you could sell the whole package as a kit? I would think I am not alone, either-- think about all the dads and kids for whom building a computer together could be a valuable, educational use of family time, like erector sets were when I was a kid (that reference probably dates me a lot).
Maybe it is just me, but I think the hardest thing about starting out on a first build is not being able to visualize how things could and should look if you do it right. I understand how to connect wires, but I don't know how or why the engineering works (like how do you know what power supply to buy, for example-- Luke, I did watch your video about how to pick a power supply, btw, it would just make more sense if I could apply that information in a useful way, hopefully doings things the right way with your help). Combined with not really knowing what to buy, it gets too overwhelming, and off I go to Costco! But I would love to have a better, more affordable machine.
My favorite of your videos are the ones where you share the data of what YOU (LMG) would buy, versus what people on your store are buying. I also like Linus' occasionally snarky opinions when he talks about what is most popular versus what he thinks is actually best. If you were building a middle-of-the-road machine, would you choose a Ryzen 5 or an i5 processor? How big of an SSD would you really buy before you consider having a separate SSD for OS and a spinning drive for storage? I wouldn't know, and I would live your help and advice through a video.
Thanks for making great videos!! I love your channel!

My Enermax CS-718 entry level server case. I've had it 12 years, and it still does the job with my new Ryzen build.
Also, did I mention, that my case has a freaking wind tunnel built into it?!

Should mention the difference between a mid tower and full tower. The phantom 630 I bought is WAY bigger than o was expecting, turns out my friends case was a phantom 410 whoops.

Cooler Master Stormtrooper. have it for 4 years now and absolutely satisfied and would recommend or buy another if this one destroyed for some reason. Only one 20cm fan on the top is replaced.

You should have mentioned all of the modders and custom cases by individual enthusiasts that sparked the interest in and corporate focus on making these new nice cases.

I'm on the path of *"small, powerful"*, but I don't plan on going with SLI. So mini-ITX is just right for me. I'm contemplating the idea of modding a Fractal Design Define Nano S to accommodate up to 2*240 + 1*280 rads. I've seen a Nano S with 240 on top + 280 on front, since the case offers just the right amount of space to fit them. I'm thinking about the layout of the NCase M1 and applying the rad position to add a third rad to the Nano S.
No RGB LEDs, no side window and all that jazz, just a small, discrete, powerful computer. All of that is just a dream for now...
