    No one can ever live up to what he did. Incredible player but so much more than that. The man had to have metal in his hat because fans would throw things at him. He is a true American hero.

      soo sad that he had to endure them type of things. imagine how much better he would have been if he felt comfortable even around his own teammates. like you said a legit American Hero man is as tough as they come mentally and physically.

      He took in the gate the racism he would be called nigger and dirty low life man. Would have fans boo at him would have the baseball guards make him leave the filled mid game would have to go to separate restaurants and hotels than his teammates would have death threats thrown at his family and would have his own teammates treat him like trash and he took on all the hate for us to have guys like Barry bonds

      He isn't the greatest ever. Lol. He's very good though. He was probably the best 2nd baseman in baseball at his time.

    There will always be intolerant bigots in the world but listening to how his story played out you'd think everyone was that way.. it was just a select few.. he went through hell to achieve the highest level, no doubt, but he was beloved by his hometown and commentators always respected him.. even back then it was known to be wrong to judge him by his skin. Listen to the play by play announcements.. nothing but admiration.. only the same percentage of bigots existed back then as today.. they were just louder back then cause they could get away with it. Most people loved him

    • @patrickgoodman4576
      @patrickgoodman4576 Год назад

      Easier to say that outside looking in man “it was only a few.” You have NO IDEA how difficult it was for him. He worried about himself and his family safety ALL TIME TIME. He got death threats constantly. It was only his PLAY and character that got folks to maybe not be SO hard on him. But it was SO DIFFICULT man you can’t imagine the pressure this man was under to succeed.
