It's so nice to see these retro goodies being in good hands. They are relics from a different era of electronics. So many things were invented and built by talented and enthusiastic engineers in garages in 70s and 80s. For better or for worse, we had moved to corporate governance and every decision nowadays has to be passed through dozens of CEO's, managers, BA's and God knows who else.
That's the gospel truth NE..too many suits not enough real thinking. Bring back those garages! 🤫
I have seen this seven segment LED display like this type for the first time. Better than today's LCD displays, no backlight required at all 😲.
Quality was definitely paramount back in the day..
It was easily portable meter in that time... Really awesome retro device 😍
True, especially when compared to some of the Goliath sized meters they were using back then.
I wonder how big their pockets back in the days 😂
Thanks for this retro segment, very informative.
Tube testers are also fun to watch
Apparently pretty darn big 😅👍
@@KeepOnTesting hahaha 😂😂😂
Maybe you can find a pocket version 😊
Wow one of the few videos that I wished ran another couple of minutes
Hi Darren, I'm loving the retro series, hope there is more to come
Great to hear Shaun..just the tip of the iceberg so far. 😃
@@KeepOnTesting I know right ! Let those treasures be unveiled !
Notification of your video arrives as I'm about to head back out on the road.. Damn you working life!!! It gets in the way of so much and now this!!! I will catch up on this later..that is my goal, that is my sole reason to reach the end of this shift, so I may consume your latest retro offering!!! UK motorist get outta my way!! I'm on a mission!!....
Muhahaha...that's dedication! 😉
Nice Darren I like those retro videos.
Thx Steph!
Vintage led displays are cool cuz they were short lived. Soon Lcd displays replaced them.
Can you do a review of the Etekcity MSR-A1000 multimeter? It's currently on Amazon for $27 with a 20% coupon discounting it to ~$21. What's interesting about this multimeter is the solid construction + input protection inside(it uses 3 PTC's and 3 MOV's, 600mah + 10a 1000v fuse). Seems crazy to me considering price.
It seems like a big step up compared to those cheap chinese multimeters and it's not even that much more expensive. Its look even resembles that of a BK precision multimeter, has a similar color theme going on.
Would be great to get your input and opinion on it. It seems like a hidden gem to me.
Thx for the feedback.
On the list 😀👍
Hello Chief, really enjoy your videos. Could you do review of the Amecal st-9905?
Thx Stuart..NOTED! 👍
Giant screw at the back is made for using a coin!
Can't believe you didn't mention the built in battery test function!
Yes I realized the coin 🪙 design.. but Holy shines I didn't even see this battery Test function ..sweet mother I'll be on that this WE 😀👍
Theres tons of old triplett analog multimeters on ebay.
They are awesome meters! It will make a RETRO-TECH appearance next month.
I wonder what the retail price was? $149? If so, that'd be about $1k today. A $10 cheap-o DMM way outperforms this. Say what you want about inflation over the last 50 years, but electronics have massively deflated over that time period.
True..never before have you gotten so much performance for so little $$
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any pricing information on this unit but being a BK product..I doubt it was cheap.
A 2000-count ADC for LED displays? 7107? In 1978? How on Earth?
One of the more unusual dmm's of that era for sure.
