spoken like a true Buddhist. Good interview. Meshuggah and HOF tomorrow in Philly. I first met Matt Pike and I asked him to sign a dollar bill, this was in either 2010 or 2011. This was at the Conservatory in Oklahoma City. It is a dive concert bar. It a trademark location in the music scene in Oklahoma. He questioned as to why he should sign it. He was straight faced. He than broke character and said, "I am just fucking with you".

Wow I'm so glad this legend has turned his life around and even gone vegetarian. More respect than I already had.
I love this interview- I'm watching it again now because I saw the illustration his back piece was based on earlier today whilst looking for some inspiration- I had to make sure it was the same piece, it was.
I really just adore the kind of guy he is. I've had a few small almost-interactions with him at concerts, my favorite one being the time my boyfriend and I were walking by long before the show during a soundcheck (the venue has large windows) we're looking in, "Hey, that's Matt Pike", I think he saw us peeking through the windows because he proceeded to yell "BUKKAKE". It was a truly beautiful moment.

I appreciate all artists who investigate things, are thoughtful, try and make beautiful and savage things whilst at the same time always taking the piss out of themselves and the world - punk rock and art over ego. Matt Pike is a truly interesting outlaw and a great conversation. Stoked you dug the video, was a blast to film and cut. :)

Saw High on Fire opening for Meshuggah this weekend. They really rocked hard. I had never heard of them before, and while waiting outside in line we saw this guy walking around. I had no idea he was the opening act! Otherwise I would have gone and talked to him. I was like "holy crap! that's the dude we just saw outside!". I love discovering new music.

I have been listening to high on fire since the very first demo. Plus have opened for them multiple times Matt and dez are two of the most down to earth guys I have ever met. Love the music and it was an honor to share the same stage with them. Great people.
I've always loved Matt Pike because not only do we have the same first name, but he's so humble and wise. I once saw High on Fire play in Buffalo, NY. They opened up with "Sons of Thunder" and Matt started puking during the solo. He didn't mess up once. I knew when I saw that I needed to get better on guitar BIG TIME. He's AMAZING live. If you combined Dimebag with Lemmy, you'd get Matt Pike.

+Daveyboy Hey mate, its edited VERY slightly, I legit took out only about 3 minutes, was a bit concerned over 40 minutes in total would be too long. In it we talked about Cowspiracy and a few other things, was just worried it was going too long. I was just wondering what else he said while on the rants about the freemasons and gmo foods and was wondering if he talked about geoengineering/chemtrails..Its very bad now in the isa its not a conspiracy anymore they are spraying our skys everyday..You can go to plane finder.net and it shows every single plane in the sky with elevation and destination..Well the ones spraying the skys for weather modification are not on radar..They actually shift /detour the commercial air traffic to go around the spraying..Crazy times..

I interviewed Pepper (and Rex) when they were out here with Down on the Heaven and Hell tour back in like 2009 and have interviewed Down I think 3 more times since, last year being the 2014 Soundwave festival tour. I think music is always a reflection of the human and they basically went from being boys to men over the last 2 decades or whatever ... I think it would be cool to have a window into what that beast has evolved into ... the best part is, I don't think they'd ever rip that grimy dirty beastly excellent heart out of it and make it clean and boring and shit... I'm open to being surprised and astounded. We can all always go back to old mate long song, but I don't know ... art should evolve forever and ever and I think it's cool to let people do that, and not have Michael Jackson Thriller syndrome where they're tortured by living up to it forever. I dunno, random thoughts yo!
Oh yeah, I fucking love Luminiferous. Another reason why I don't want Sleep to "fully reunite" is High On Fire is too important to the movement of true metal. The best thing about High On Fire's evolution is they never turned into something like Hatebreed mindless groove ennui or Avenged Suckfold with all the absolute WORST traits of modern metal.
I think what Sleep made clear with The Clarity is that they have another movement of sound within them and now that they have been in other bands and done other things, it's time to finally follow the path they were meant for and reach new ground. That's what the artist side of art is all about, sacrifice and movement.

Yeah dude, was at Soundwave at a sweet record label pool party. It was heaps fun. I think we had both been drinking (he more than I) at the first one and now both vego sober and shit, which definitely changes the way you interact. I thought he was funny as hell and super easy to talk to but as a non-drinking human myself its fucking great to see what presence can do, and that clarity. :)
