What i usually do for macdonalds hot drinks...i will take their mcd sticker where they usually use to seal the food tear a small piece of it and stick it to the small tiny hole on the lid...not the part for drinking but the small hole where the hot drink usually will spill out..than tie it tidely the really secure the lid..
Swensen's are a honourable mention too. Not sure about other outlets but here in Sunplaza, the drink is packed in a paper bag, that is crumpled and also not snug fit. End up have to take the cup out the bag and bring it to a nearest kfc to get a plastic bag to make it easy for me to deliver.
a simple solution that the merchant can do~ put a cling wrap over the cup first then cap it with the lip~ it will be water tight, you can flip the cup upside down and it won't leak~ this also work for plastic container~ apparently some chinese zhichar stall do this for their soup items~
If you make sudden swift turnings of the handlebar in a wide arc in one quick motion, the momentum can cause the drink to spill. Another scenario is bumping humps without slowing down, but you know that already. Since this method means the hot drink is not placed in the thermal bag, it can probably go cold faster if you take too long to deliver it. But the handlebar method can be more stable if you don't make sudden jerky motions.
That stacked Long John drinks really doesn't make sense. I had an order with 8 drinks and were stacked on top of each other. The top drinks ended up submerging into the bottom ones and the content spilled out. Also for hot coffee, tea etc.. no matter how careful I am, short distance also..there is always a tiny bit of overflow at the top
Not only is the LJS cup design bad but the bag and method of stacking it makes it even worse. I mean it makes no sense to stack them on top of each other.
@Grab Adventures i thought so. For the worst-case scenario, it is better to assist the customer in going that route. I believe it won't affect the rider's earnings either since it's unintentional.
I thought you will open up the lit and see how much coffee left 😅 There are some problems with the experiment. The right side only got 2 cups so there are more rooms for it to move when u go up or down slope then the coffee will flow out from the hole.

Thx! Actually all cups failed the spill test anyway. I had a customer who requested not to pour hot water into the mcdonalds cup. Just put the tea bag inside and he will pour hot water at home. I ❤️ this type of customer.

I noticed that kfc lid does not always fit tightly. That's why i always make sure to take an extra minute to ensure the lid is sealed tightly. For ms I chose LJS coz it's not just the cup but the plastic bag which it comes in that makes it absolute disaster for me.
I was expecting the McD coffee to be the worst, but, surprise surprise. Subway and KFC cups have "osmosis" properties which are undesirable in this context lol.
I was also surprised with the result. But the killer is the LJS cup. Even though it did not absorb, the lid design combined with the stacking method in the elongated plastic bag makes this the worst. Btw thank you for the awesome masterclass video. I was expecting at best a few pics but you went above and beyond my expectations. Thank you Bernie!

@@grabadventures no prob... but prob is sanitary pads come in different absorption types mayb try the DAY type ones.. not too thick not too thin and can absorb just about right. Maybe you might need to warn viewers before you start your video too in case your viewers gross out 😅😅
think the shop with the most freq hot drinks order would be places like Ya Kun. i feel Ya Kun take away also put their eggs in drink cups, so i feel they need a good cup design.
Thank you for sharing your perspective. Actually if you think about it, most of the takeaway containers being used are not meant for transportation using vehicles. Hopefully someone will come up with a container or cup method which addresses the pain points of delivery riders.

That tiny hole isn't so hot air can get out. It's so air can get in when you are taking a sip. If it weren't there it would limit the amount one can get out of the cup per sip. Place a piece of clear tape over the hole to help prevent spills

They're all made for hand carry and not really suitable for the delivery bag I usually hand carry or hang on handle for drinks and soup after my first spillage and it works fine till now . Soup usually doesnt matter as it's very hot and still scalding when arriving, drinks it's just the ice melting faster but either that or spillage if you leave it in the box but I think the latter is worse as you also have to clean your bag afterwards
I am not sure bro. I don't think i am pro enough. I tried once to carry in my handlebar but i found it spill even more as I turn the handlebar. Just not used to it i guess 😔
i often wonder how delivery riders transport ice desserts like Chendol or Ice Kacang, i would imagine those desserts would be like "Watery Soups" by the time the customer gets it..

KFC cup design is the worst.. even when i order their coffee to takeaway and i board a bus.. by the time i arrive in office.. the bottom of the cup is already soaked. i think their paper cups is really cheap.. i try not to order hot drinks from them when i am taking away. i try to change my drink order to orange juice or something.
Sometimes I just put a helmet bag with shirts inside and my also a spare raincoat (all cleaned ) I will use them as a wedge, to put against the drinks so it won't move .. I often also put the hot drinks in the cup holder ..most times there is no spillage , but yes sometimes there is .. gotta make sure the cup holder is secured down safely with for eg. Anti slip mat or perhaps you can diy stick it in the bag with glue or something .. Hope this helps . I'm a motorcycle rider same 2 wheel issues ...

Luckily i observe before caryying the bag out of my thermal bag. The bottom lot give away. At the end i deliver 4 cups 2 by 2 to the customer.

Now that you mention this, i remember seeing some food stalls doing this. It does seem like a good way to seal the drink in.

The homegrown kopi ones like fun toast, yakun kaya and toast box have their own challenges when transporting hot drinks.
As a customer I always have problems with hot drinks from LJS. Guess they need to improve their packaging.

To ensure that no spilling, you pretty much have to walk to deliver OR ask the shop to use a very tight sealed cup.

It really depends. If it's just dessert with no hot food then it's mostly fine.
