It doesn't look good, it looks great! A very nice professional job. There's nothing better than the feeling when a project comes together and you get to see your finished product. You should be quite proud of this one. There's only one problem I can see with it... It's that God awful green color and attached to one of those green things when it should be orange!!! Lol. Orange Tractor Pride, whooo, all day everyday!! Lol!
Thank you very much! I am very proud of how it turned out! Especially since I ordered all the material and pieces before I even had the tractor or weights for the weight bracket! I drew it out and hoped it would work! I’ll give ya a pass on the orange haha
Josh welding (Mig) with argon and CO2 mix gas (75%/25%) and a flow meter is easier and your welds will look better. If you can convert your welder. Tractor supply can sell small "q" size thanks of gas that you can purchase and own, not lease from a welding store. I liked. Your use of the angle iron for the teeth mount, I will use that method for the fork lift I am making for my front quick hitch.
Yeah I have the parts to hook up gas to it, and I want to, but in AK, that stuff is hard to come by other than a weld supply place, and the smallest they have was over 400, which I couldn’t justify for the amount I use it. One day when I get back to the states I’ll get gas, and probably make an even heavier ripper!
I don’t know… probably won’t get too deep depending on what ya rip into, I’ll be interested to see, but I’m on the fence about even going more than 3 on my 758.
Did you ever think about making it a dual tool meaning you know how you got them things that dig into your driveway to help level the gravel and redistribute it make a similar make it three disc so you can disc up a yard before you plow or rototiller that'd be pretty cool project to watch
Power was good, weight was a different story. I kept spinning wheels, so having 2 weights on each wheel would have been better, as well as 4 weights on rear of the tractor. Also the tires weren’t ideal for this terrain. I’ve since gotten an X758, and between the extra machine weight, wheel weight, suitcase weight, 4 wheel drive and ag tires, it pulls it like it’s hardly there. I’ve also modified the ripper to a 3 point setup and can hold 2 more weights on it to push into the ground.
Zero bending problems, and all the welds have held up to the abuse I’ve put it through so far… decided not to fill it since it already weighs a bunch by itself, and the sleeve hitch doesn’t do the best job at lifting.
Diamond cut off wheels don't work for me, they are supposed to be multi material which is true but for steel I use the old abrasive wheels. The diamond wheels take too long for steel.
Lol, well it has no problem pulling it through whatever kind of Alaskan soil I have… I’m sure as long as I could get enough weight for it to break ground, it would pull it, definitely 1 blade though…
That tractor is a 500 series GT and they are absolute little beast! It will have no problem pulling that thing. The only problem with that tractor is that it isn't orange! Other than that it is top of the line for GTs and will do anything you want to do within the realm of garden tractors. Only the 700 and 900 series are stronger and the 900 is only available in Europe. Plus the 700 series are several thousand dollars more and 95% of people would never need more than what this tractor can do which is a lot. Pfft... this tractor is just fine, other than being green instead of orange of course!
I got em off eBay, you can get them lots of places. They are just box blade ripper shanks. Im going to start selling my plans for the 3 point version of this. Since this video I have gotten a new tractor and converted it to a cat 1 3 point hitch system. So if you are interested, Let me know, and I will let you know as soon as I get them listed on eBay
@@JoshsGreenGarage thanks for the quick reply. I just purchased the John Deere S170 and am told they do not support a sleeve hitch for this series. I will most likely purchase the generic one i see on Cub Cadets and fabricate as needed. Also i did shoot an email to the greenpartstore.com and am awaiting a response.
So yeah, unless you find something generic, you wont be able to get one for S100 Tractors... if you do manage to get one though and are handy with fabricating and electrical work, you could add an electric actuator to lift and lower it, and you would have down force. The problem is the transaxle, they are weak in the 100 series, buuuut, you did get a 170, which does have a better axle than the lower 100 models. I just wouldn't do anything too crazy with it.
Currently I only sell plans for it along with a data plate and decal set. If you haven’t seen, I have a video adapting it to 3 point, and that is what the plans are for, but instead of all the extra stuff, you could build it to how you see here. I just don’t have the capability to build them in a timely manner right now. To drill the 6 holes for just the 3 point attachment pieces took me 5 hours on my little bench top drill press… and I’d have to do another 6 for the shanks. One day once I get back to the states I’m hoping to be able to build them for sale. It just wouldn’t be worth your money for me to build one up here in Alaska. I’d have to charge twice what the steel costs because of shipping up here, then I’d have to charge a huge amount to ship to you… it would just cost way more than you would like to spend I’m sure, especially after adding some for profit and all. If you are seriously interested in one though, and money nor time is an issue, then by all means you can email me and I can try to quote one for you, I just don’t want to insult anyone with the price, it can be built for way less if you have the means. Biggest thing for me is shipping.
Great Job Josh

I think I’m gonna try one that’s 42 inch and 5 shank. We will see if the 570 has the power for it

You should do a review on your Hobart welder.
Thx for replying
So how did it work? Did you have enough engine power and overall axle weight

I’d fill it with a fine sand that till help out a lot. Have you had any bending problems?

With that little tractor, you will be lucky to pull one blade through hard clay let alone three.

What size is you Hobart welder? I have a 140.
Mine is also the 140
Where did you get the shanks for this? I'm wanting to build something like this! Great work btw! It looks like it came from Deere!

@@JoshsGreenGarage I found them thank you though!
I like it if you don’t mind I might be building one myself... check out the tiller I built from scratch.
What model number is your tractor and where did you find a sleeve hitch to fit it?
It is an X580, you can get the hitch from a John Deere dealer, also websites like greenpartstore.com appear to have them.

Starting your video after you've already built it doesn't make sense.
Well this is part 2…
