I think it’s cool as hell that you do these with a Squier. It’s cool to be a Squier owner, see someone like you playing a Squier. It makes the great videos that much more accessible for newer folks. Awesome job man

As a guitar player (and substitute bass player...) you have just given me the key to the puzzle I've been looking for. I was trying to understand how to use modes within a progression, and you gave me the EXACT information I needed!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

LIGHT BULB MOMENT!!!!!! Been playing great walking BLUES bass lines for decades but have always shied away from jazz. Once you showed how the 2-5-1 is really Dorian-Mixolydian-Ionian, it made instant sense. And what will I use to practice this? Nope...not one of my three electrics...I have have a gorgeous 4-string fretless Ergo Electronic Upright bass (EUB). This will be soooo much fun. Mixing the notes of each mode to create interesting patterns... I LOVE IT!!! (PS: I'm 72...started on guitar and drums at age 11 in 1959...gigging since I was 15...switched to strictly bass 22 years ago.)

Man, your lessons are excellent! And it really goes to show, that bass players need to know music theory even more than guitar players. Because the bass player has the power over the harmonies - he decides what root note and therefore which chord the listener perceives.

Hello I'm a young bass player Who is just learning to play the bass
Question: So What can I do to learn or hear the changes Better when I am playing a song

  • @steveachelis
    @steveachelis 3 года назад +2

Great lesson, but I sure wish there was a tab to go along with it. There are some subtleties around 10:40, like playing the C low once, then high (which is easy enough to spot). But when played high, he plays R-5-3-R, rather than R-3-5-below, so it leads into the D from a C (whole step), rather than a Db (half step). Yeah, it's probably good for me to figure this out, but I had to slow down the video and stare are Daric's fingers to figure out what was going on.

    Thank you for your lesson!
im an Korean jazz beginner, so please understand that my english could be not so well...
but their are some things that i want to know,
how do i walk in 251 chord progressions without sounding like bunch of key changes....
in lots of jazz standards, their are lots of 251s used as secondary dominant chords,
which is non diatonic and it could sound like a total different scale..
and i also want to know lots of patterns to play in 251
like i can use like a lick
when the song end with 251 chord progression
or when 251 is used in turn around etc....
if there are allready lessons that you explained i will be very thankfull where i should find
    thanks again!

Interesting how the F# works into the 5 chord even though it's not diatonic. G7 would have an F, but it's the F# that sounds musical and works. There are so many little things like this that have to be figured out to get proper walking lines that don't have any stink notes....
