Thanks for the Tour, Kara. Highway 54 south of 18th Street was mainly farm land in 1960. One of five drive-in movie theaters with only the one 7 miles north of the Owensboro Bridge remaining. Shopping in the 1940's and 1950's was downtown originally. On the corner opposite the huge bank modeled after Philadelphia's historic Independence Hall on 25th and Frederica is an modest building (behind it is Old Hickory BBQ restaurant). It was the first restaurant built South on Frederica in 1949 by my grandfather R.R. Sands. He correctly had predicted that business would expand South on Frederica years before Kentucky Wesleyan built their first classroom at 3000 Frederica Street. Business beyond the bypass built up after 1964. There was nothing there then but a beer joint, where Texas Roadhouse now stands, to prevent the car I rode in from reaching maximum speed. The oldest homes you showed on Griffith Avenue are quite familiar to me. Especially the white mansion with columns said to be modeled after Tara in the movie "Gone with the Wind." Thanks for the tour. Of my family only my sister remains in Owensboro ( on a street parallel with Frederica just beyond that restored Victorian mansion on the left). Her three sons have remained in Owensboro. What I have of Owensboro is my Daviess County accent. To continue seeing my son, daughter, and grandkids, it's necessary to remain in Maryland in a county informally known as "Ceciltucky."
That is a nice neighborhood in the beginning!! Owensboro.. Where Johnny Depp grew up. I heard he had the nickname of the city of Owensboring though lol Cleaver

It is more rural but is very inexpensive! Lots of things to do in area hour or so around it

It’s relatively low crime, but is notorious for drugs/alcoholism.
If you do a lot of shopping in Owensboro, you must not get out much. Evansville is much much better.
More daily shopping like groceries and daily needs. Less crowded. Shopping clothes etc yes agree much better. Thx for watching.
