At these shows (there were two shows a couple of days apart) in Mexico City, they used some of their friends and mentors as guest musicians on some songs. So they are not averse to doing it. They have also had musicians from the headliner perform with them on their opening act sets (AreJay Hale of Halestorm, Barry Stock of Three Days Grace). Dany and Pau have also performed with other bands recently, and all three of them have shared the stage with other bands, Eruca Sativa and Band-Maid. So, they have worked with others.
Thanks, ADK. Good comments that I generally agree with. If someone is looking for complex structures with lots of time signature changes and boasting of musical instrument skills, they won't find it in The Warning. In my opinion, what the Villarreal sisters do is well-written, engaging, accessible and catchy songs. I'm mainly into classic progressive rock, progressive metal, etc. but I also really like The Warning because it's an engaging, honest artistic expression by more than capable musicians and very well presented on stage. With a singing ability unusual in most bands. The extraordinary thing is that this, which seems simple, they successfully repeat it over and over again, while still remaining a fresh and engaging artistic expression, which is extraordinarily difficult to do. In fact, it's the dream of many artists and bands.
They comment that they have seen many videos of The Warning and had not seen Pau's laptop and for years he has always had it at his disposal, it shows that they do not notice many things. It is not strange for a band with less members, added to the fact that technology is advancing and allows the addition of aids on stage. It's definitely not something relevant, it's just an addition because if Pau, Dany or Alejandra stop playing you can tell that they really play their instruments in a relevant way, the tracks just add layers to fill spaces.

@@adkrockandmetal Certainly, it is a sound change or an experiment by them as they have commented. But in the live performances the processed sound and the effects added to Dany's voice are much less noticeable. I'm more of a lover of the new album from the live performances, which feel more similar to their previous albums. But that these girls are talented is undeniable, they just show how versatile they can be by adding or trying different things.
I'm going to push back a little, not necessarily against you guys, but against people that say KMF, their latest album, is over produced. There's a history of the moment indy bands get signed that some of their fans go into, ohhhh they've sold out, they're overproduced, there's too many writers etc.... I'd just like to point out, TW albums have been highly produced since day one with Jake Carmona. This song in particular, from QOTMS, has 4 guitars tracked on the album, and heavily tracked vocals. Many of their early songs have two and three guitars and keyboards tracked, but still hit hard with minimal tracks used live. I find nothing wrong with that as I love studio productions and it's an entirely different animal than their live performances. They've never hidden the fact that they use tracks live and talk about it in several interviews, but they're quite subtle and they're always playing the meat of the song live and when the computer gets launched onto the floor, the majority of the audience would never know the difference. The lighting for this show was done by Brian Bogovic, who I believe TW met on tour with Halestorm.
No music videos but a whole live concert introducing the album at Lunario Mexico City for their Patrons who was the majority of people that funded the album. This was in 2018 and the girls were 18,16 and 13 I wish they would record QOTMS album at their present age and since is a concept album I’m sure they would come up with some great ideas for the album today.
Firstly, great that you are getting into this song! I do agree it’s really interesting and was a huge step for the band. However they used backing tracks from the start, but can perform great without them. Nearly everybody uses backing tracks, or does what green day does. These three are sisters… not good to add another member or touring player imho. Not for the analysis part: Context is needed for you to understand songs from a concept album…. I mean seriously? Tv show? It’s sinister and sneaky, to depict the bringer of death chasing hunting down the Queen. This album tells a story. Without context, the music and lyrics aren’t meaningful. But then you think the new album, which certainly has songs that are riff rock and is extremely creative and super heavy, is not very good and is pop oriented. It’s very odd that you connect a heavy 6/8 blues rock and roll song with silly tv jingles.
Dave has covered the song before a few years ago and did a full review of the album, it's on of his favorite albums and still listens to it every week. The TV show theme comment is an observation of the style of the riff and it does have that vibe. Rock and blues in theme songs is not unheard of, look at bands such as Band Maid
Good to hear your analysis. When they first started they did not have the crew to manage everything like visuals, click track, in ears etc so Pau did it all, which is amazing, but she has continued to do most of it, I guess because she is so used to it and it is just 2nd nature to her now. They do use backing tracks and have been quite open about that fact, but the tracks never become the song, they are only there to embellish the song and if the track fails, as it has done on occasion, few people if any even notice it has stopped. This song in context is where the Grim Reaper appears and is in the hunter for the Queen who has committed multiple murders and other heinous crimes, she said in an earlier song that when she gets to hell she will take the throne for herself, hear the Reaper is telling her she won't and that she should run, and that her end is near, which occurs in the next song. The entire story contained within this album is compelling and well written displaying a skill and talent that defies the age they were when they wrote it. And Gee thanks a lot for putting the Addams family theme into my head, it seems it will stay there for some time. I get what you're saying there, although I had never actually thought of it myself, but I'm fairly sure that is not what the girls were trying to portray, still it is an interesting observation. Their songs aren't overly complicated, but I think that is what makes them so great, if you look back to the 80 and 90's a lot of music was simple, but that is what endears them to us. We don't always want or need complicated key changes and tempos it is fine for a couple of songs, but too many and it started to grate, but that may just be me.
Interesting analysis. I do have some corrections. By this point in time Pau's laptop isn't triggering the lighting or backdrops. If you would have done the Lunario video of this song, those statements would have been correct. The Lunario show is where they premiered all the tracks for the Queen of the Murder Scene album. They played the entire album in order with a few older songs mixed in for good measure. And at that stage Pau was triggering the visuals behind the stage with her laptop. It took place November of 2018. Which is the same time the album was released. They were getting ready to tour but then the pandemic shut things down. Which is one of the reasons there are no music videos from this album. Though a year later they did release several live acoustic videos. Performed in a hotel meeting room with surprisingly good acoustics and great audio capture. Musically the song is not groundbreaking in any way. The draw is the lyrical content. And for fans how it ties into the story of the entire concept album. Also, in the live setting fans like the bit where they can shout along. There may have been some tracks in the show you watched, I'm not sure. I'm almost positive there weren't any in the original from Lunario. Then again I sometimes have trouble picking out rhythm backing from Ale's bass backing. She does tend to use the bass as a rhythm guitar at times. Either way, I have no issue with their use of tracks. They can, and have done full shows without them (technology isn't always dependable). They don't use them as a crutch. More a way to fill out the sound and add some extra flavor for the people who spend good money to see them.
What we can say in relation to your comment was that our parents were not interested in us doing music so we only started once we could afford our own instruments and started later in life. We would have loved to have had musically supportive parents but that was not meant to be. Dave put his first album out in 2008 after a few failed bands that wrote but didnt record. I sort of agree about the commercial aspect in the new album Keep me Fed, however I’m only talking about their singles. I would say the other half isn’t commercial at all. Also it doesn’t sound to me at all like Queen of the Murder Scene. KMF guitars are much deeper lower. I’m not a guitarist but they drop d and even lower in some songs. They are in standard e in the other albums most of the time. I feel their newest album uses even more backing tracks. Some of their sound, sounds like a 2 piece band who uses a backing tracks. They are an English band. TW toured with them and Muse. For the life of me I can’t think of their name except blood is in their name.
I'm really kind of struggling with how you keep framing the song as sort of a ditty being sung by an 8 year old Angela Lansbury. I mean if that's how you hear it ok I guess. it's not how I hear it 😅
They usually not use riffs as themselfs have said they do what feels right for the song and if a riff dont make sence they wont add it. They have spoken about adding guest musician for lives as they would love someone to run computer stuff play keyboard or rythm guitar but no budget for it. And in some interviews they are not agsinst adding a 4 member but no plans yet. Pau usually run the backdrop and screen from computer atleast on older shows
Most of their songs have strong riffs, whether it's Dany's guitar or Ale's bass. Riffs are what makes The Warning sound as they do. I think you may have meant that Dany will write a solo if they all 3 think the song needs it. Solos are what is rare in their songs. Again, they do what serves the song best, you're right about that.
