  • Review of the 2023 Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 gaming laptop. It comes with an Intel I7-13700H CPU and a NVIDIA RTX 4060 GPU. Not much has changed in terms of the design but Lenovo did remove some of its features making this laptop a little less "pro". Watch for the full review!

FYI - they didn’t remove the ability to change the thermal profiles. It’s a known bug that I experienced with my Legion Pro 5 (2023 RTX 4070) model. All I needed to do was uninstall the vantage software and reinstall from the Microsoft store. - Then everything came right back and I could change the thermal profiles (Silent, Balanced, Turbo, Etc…) from inside the vantage software.

totally agree, it does not look like a gaming laptop at all (a driving factor for me). Plus giving it weighs only 5.5 lbs and is about 1 inch high, combined with always-have-coupon / amex offers / 3rd cash back, you will get a very decent deal. Just got a i7-13700HX/4070/3K 240Hz 500nits panel for around $1000 ish after all offers/cashback. No brainer for a dual-purpose machine (gaming, college study, work). For gaming laptop, it's kind of lightweight.

The back usb-C port can be used to charge and power the laptop ( I know it will not be enough to run on full load, but I would like to know if I can use it to charge the laptop during working day, where we have a one monitor with usb-c and 90W power output, so with one cable I'll be able to work for all day under low power workload, like email and internet browsing.

In my country the 2022 and 2023 models with similar class specs cost the same, so while a 3070 Ti performs just about the same as 4070, it is an entire laptop, and you get 240hz screen instead of 165hz and also the upgrade to the much better HX series of procesors from intel. Thats why many people are wrong about the 4070 laptops, they see it as no improvement, but overall you get a better laptop for the same price in many regions. It all comes down to price, if you get the 2022 model for very cheap with similar specs, sure go for it, but at the same price, just get the new one, you will also get 2 more years of driver support.

I'd recommend if you're choosing any laptop with a graphics card in general, minimum you'd want 8GB of VRAM on your dedicated GPU. Anything less, at least for games you'd have some games not open, crash or get lowered frame rates.
But either Legion laptops are an excellent choice. It just depends on your budget (this time it depends on AMD or Intel CPU and if you want more Type C ports or Type A ports). As long as you get the beautiful 2560x1600 screen 500nit 100% sRGB screen variant.

If you notice, the naming this year is a bit different, last year had legion 5, legion 5 pro and legion 7. This year they have legion pro 5 and legion pro 7. Notice the different placement of the "pro" on the product name. While I do agree the "pro" on the product name is unnecessary, I think you didn't distinguish the difference between last year's name and this year's name enough. On the test, you wrote "legion pro 5" on both year model. The "pro" placement on last year's model is not in the middle. I think it made a difference because I believe this year's legion pro 5 is just an upgrade from last year's normal legion 5 and not the legion 5 pro. The fact that they throw "pro" on the 7 version this year as well made me believe that. The chassis design on pro 5 this year is the exact same as last year's normal legion 5. I don't know why they did that honestly. I wouldn't complain much had they not include "pro" in its name.

I really like the 4060 and the new 13gen i5 CPUs, but worried about how the keyboard is on 5 Pro.. is there much flex when you press around FGH letters, in the middle? the 2023 generation of legion laptops really did take a step back in features. And they say it's to save money, but it's not even cheaper compare to the competition. The asus m16 4080 is at $2700USD, Acer helios 16w/ 4080 is $2500. Both those laptops have glass trackpads AND mini LED displays. Though, the m16 only has an H processor while the helios has the HX. The lenovo 7i pro 4080 is the more expensive one at $2750 but uses the same old display, plastic trackpad and plasticky construction. 2022 was the peak of legion I think.

    • @rossdev
      @rossdev Год назад

A different story in Europe though! The Legion 7i, particularly with academic discount is massively cheaper than any of the competition. ACER Predator Helios 16 4080m €3359, Zephyrus M16 4080 €3959, Legion 7i 4080 €2600 (with discount and no OS). Even with the cheaper construction, it's a complete no-brainer.

Hi. It will be so nice of you to help me with this, I'm deciding to buy a Lenovo legion Laptop however i don't really know which model to choose?
    .
✅️ Whether 2022 Lenovo legion 5i pro with i7 12700h and RTX 3070 or 2023 Lenovo legion pro 5i with i7 13700hx and RTX 4070; considering the fact that the 2023 model is quite more expensive which one you recommend?
    .
✅️ In terms of hardware specifications, I think RTX 3070 is better, for example, it has a memory bus width of 256 bits, while RTX 4070 is 128 bits, and I think the number of Cuda and Tensor cores are the same with 3070, and these are not much different, and even the 30 series may be better.
    .
✅️ I may occasionally play video games, but I also have heavy engineering software that requires a powerful CPU and GPU.
    .
✅️ Another question is that will the DLSS 3 and upcoming updates come for RTX 3070 or not? What do you think?
    .
✅️ Also, i've heard about a new feature called Frame Generation or FG is also provided in RTX series 40 and it seems that it is only for this series 40 and does not include the previous series, is that right?
    .
✅️ And is it true about FG that unlike DLSS it is not sensitive to the CPU Bottleneck issue?
In many games, the FG option is available by default and can be turned on.
    .
✅️ So does FG really work and give a higher FPS experience, or are the rumors about it true that it is not of good quality?
(It is said that DLSS cannot work properly if you have a CPU bottleneck, right?)
    .
Which model should i buy from these two laptops, so that it has good power and enough FPS in running games that would be enough for the next few years and could perform well in heavy engineering softwares?
    .
I apologize for my long comment,
    Thank you very much. 🙏
