    I was advised not to shake frames that have queen cells on them. The claim is that the queen will drop inside her cell, and die.

      @beefitbeekeeping  Год назад

      That is correct! Are you referring to the drone frame that had a couple a queen cells on it that I shook? I was taking that frame out of the hive completely. That drone frame would have been a mite bomb to my colony so I chose to remove it

    Emily, I normally try to be positive on comments so we had a great view of the outside end panel of that top box.

    Has anyone pinched the queen when they knew they were too late to stop the swarm? If they do swarm, you lose 1/2 the workers and the queen anyway.

  • @johnn1a2
    @johnn1a2 Год назад

    What ever you did. Leaving more than 1 queen cell. You will get multiple virgin cast swarms. When during inspection if I find they are back filling brood frames with honey it’s started. So I get honey super put frames of brood in it with other frames. Put q excluder on brood box and put honey - brood on top of q excluder. The frames u removed from brood box replace with drawn comb tons of room for lady of house. But always have more via honey supers than needed.

    Two week intervals?!?
    A strong hive can go from zero to swarm in 8 days or less.

    Does the drone frame mean they are preparing to swarm?

      Re Queen Cells . . .
      Do x12 Day Hive (Proactive) Hive Inspections AND do something before they LEAVE ! Better to Prevent, than Chase or Lose.😢
      Queen Cell Stages :
      Eggs x3 Days, Larvae x8 Days, Queen Cells are Capped x9th Day.
      Queen Hatch x16th Day!
      If you go into a Hive every 12th Day or sooner (each Weekend) you will never miss a Swarm !
      Or add a temporary Queen Excluder under the Brood Box just above the Hive Entrance and the Landing Board : Foragers can still leave, but a Queen may not be able to get thru that QE (unless she's been on a pre-Swarm reduced Slimming diet !) And Foragers without a Queen will come back to their original Hive ! ASAP 😉
      Do only this in an SoS * Bee situation (Weekend Away, Work Schedule does allow * Regular Hive Inspection, or Family Issue that Week.)
      Bees need to come and go unhindered including Drones (they can't get through QE's either !)
      Or the Colony will not gather Food / Resources well if squeezing thru QE for weeks and weeks
      Hope this helps. 😎

      Yes it's normal to have lots of Drone Comb and or Drones in Spring. 👍
      (Unless you have a pre or post Spring/ Summer Drone only laying Queen (failing laying pattern) or a Horribly Queenless Colony with a Worker Bee laying Drones (Workers are unmated Bees !) 🙄

      Huge amounts of resources are put into drones, whether swarming or not.

    After they get invaded by a large human species they say screw this let's get out of here and swarm. It's a paradox but they are always more likely to prepare to swarm after you've gone in them

    If I find capped queen cells I go ahead and take the queen if she’s still there. Don’t want to lose her too.

    *New aspiring bee keeper here*
    Thank you for the video it was very informative. So to my understanding, bees will leave a hive queenless? What’s the reason for that? and would there be another queen being born from the hive they left?

    • @AndrewIreland8576
      @AndrewIreland8576 Год назад +1

      If they've decided to swarm they're going to do it and take the queen with them. And yes.

    Why do you make it sound so depressing you just found out you got a dozen new queens in one fell swoop at least

    I found queen cells in a hive on February 27 here in Central Texas. I also caught a swarm on March 26, so swarm season came early here. Do you have any bait hives setup so that if a swarm leaves a hive you have a chance of catching it?

  • @bduerr5082
    @bduerr5082 Год назад +1

    2 Weeks between visits on a strong colony in the spring is a lifetime. Strong hives need to be at least checked at the bottom of the frames by lifting the boxes at least once per week.

    Hmm...I am starting to think from here on out I am putting my first supers on at the start of April or when the dandelions bloom. Because you have two full boxes for the queen to lay and even that wasn't enough room. Wow. Great video. Luckily, you have enough queen cells for them to recover.

    If that bottom box has all the foundation frames then this is a mistake. Make sure the box with the foundation is in the top box and not the lower boxes. If that foundation was in the top box then they would be able to draw out the foundation faster and could have avoided any earlier swarming. I would begin to feed them . The frames you pulled up doesn’t look like there’s a lot of food stores.

    Did you want that hive to make just honey for you? Or I thought your goal was to have 100 hives. This hive is actually helping. you reach that goal, you have a half dozen queens ready to be split into hives. So if you were always going to split, well now you can make at least 4 new hives. This is not a bad thing if your goal was always to make more hives.

    • @mikeries8549
      @mikeries8549 Год назад

      Goals and plans...the bees have their own ideas.
      My goal is to keep as many alive as possible. The swarms and splits just happen and the honey sort of just happens too. It's very common for newbs to think a beekeeper has honeybee employees. It's the opposite the bees are the boss and the beekeeper is there to serve them.
      😊

    Hey Emily, Sorry things didn't go as planned today, poop Indeed😔But like u said that's all a part of Bee Keeping; there is no such thing as a Bee Expert, mistakes are going to happen regardless of how long you've been doing this and all u can do is take a note and put it towards the next time👍Proactive over Reactive I really liked that philosophy👏Well Hope U are doing well and Thank U for another Great video, Hope things go a little better next time and as always I will see U in the next one my Favorite Keeper☺️🐝👏 #emilyisthebeesknees #beefitbeekeeping #beefitbeeyard #beefitapiary #swarmseason #beefit #beekind #beefithoney #happyhumpday🐪
