This song was written and released before 9/11. This is on the "Unwind" album that was released 6 months before the attacks. They made the video because it fits how they feel about the responders in NY.
I know the lead singer. This is the video they chose because of the hero/champion theme to the song but it was actually written about his mother/ parents. Listen closely to the lyrics.
I made fun of him for being old enough to fart dust on facebook and he made me buy their new album with autographed guitar picks. I don't know him but hes cool from my view.
@Alteric1 Song was written long before Sept. 11, 2001. It's a song of thanks to someone for being supportive, positive and there for someone else. We'd have to ask Thomas Flowers who or what inspired it, but 9/11 definitely was not it.
serpentbrew What does it matter if the song isn't originally about that? So they'te saying that there's only one way to interpret a song and if to someone a song has a different meaning, they're wrong?
Dude ww know its about Thomas Flowers mom but this song fits as a tribute to New York 1st responders and everyone at ground zero. The lyrics matches the New York firefighters resolve and determination to save lives. They went in to those buildings knowing it was seriously dangerous but they still charged in without hesitation knowing bad things could possibly happe at any second. They gave their all and everyone that went in never came back out. Sacraficed themselves to help people so If u cant see the connection i dont know what to say? If they arent champions no 1 is.

Great song
@serpentbrew Right after September 11th, Oleander put this song out as a single with the proceeds going to the September 11th Fund...
