    Firstly Tim, thanks for making a no filler/waffle video. I'm looking to change the rear pads and maybe disc on my Mums car; an Audi A3 2ltr diesel 3door 2013. Do you have any recommendations regarding pads and disc suppliers? Also it would be great if you added the actual parts used in the video description. Again thanks for the insight, just need that extra detail as it my first time lol. Peace

    Bless you bro. I have a 2016 A3 and this video is perfect. Quick question, I’m mechanically inclined but don’t know shit about the electronics. My system says my parking brake is engaged and beeps even when it’s disengaged. So like what do I do about that? Do I need that software you showed earlier in the video to do a system reset or something?

    Thanks for the advice that the EPB module is under 03 ABS as 53 Parking Brake is not found on the A3 I was working on. Maxisys also couldn't find it as I guess it was looking for 53 Parking Brake also
    Tip in exchange, use a short 7mm Hex bit in a ratchet spanner ( wrench) to remove and fasten the pins. I also have a 7mm 1/4 drive bit on a long ratchet.
    Always clean and lub the pins to avoid locking up.
    You can lever the pads to force the piston back part way before any disassembly, this allows the calipers to easily come off, even if the disk ( rotor) is seriously worn or rusted

    Just did the rear rotors and pads on my 2014 G-Tron last weekend! Should have watched your video beforehand! Do you get some slight rubbing and heating of the rotors with brand new brake pads? I do and I guess it's due to the bedding in process and will go away. Will it?

    • @TimWilliamsHD

      should do...not too sure mate..

      Welp, a week's driving did it for me, so no problems anymore. Just the first 300-400 km that the pads rubbed, now it's a lot better.

  • @shortyian1

    Ever though about painting your hubs and calipers? I did mine last year in smooth hammerite sliver with a foam sponge brush, looks great to be honest no rust has come through as of yet (wire brushed them first before painting) could be another video for you?

    • @yaseengire2837
      @yaseengire2837 6 лет назад

      A sponge? I hadn’t even thought of that. Does it look alright yeah? I did my fronts with ham silver but used a brush. I’m not a massive fan of the finish but it’s miles better than rust.

    Hi, got a 2017 2.0tdi Quattro needing rear brake pad change. Do I need to use the VCDS comp programme? Was all set to change this w/e but this vid has stopped me in my tracks.

      Hi mate,
      if its anything with an Electronic parking brake then they need to be in service mode as if you wind or push the piston back in without them being in service mode, you may destroy the thread on the pin the winds back in...
      some have done it without VCDS, but I play it safe...if you don't fancy the £200 vcds purchase, there are some cheaper eBay OBD tools that could do the job for ya....

      Thanks for reply m8. Booked car into garage now. Is the front pads a straight swap (with exception of wear sensor connection)? Or does the A3 require vcds for these also?

    • @TimWilliamsHD
      @TimWilliamsHD  6 лет назад

      No problem, front pads straight swap yes, no vcds at all, just reply sensor and you’re good to go!

    If you need the tool to push the rear piston back in because it has to be turned and pushed at the same time, how come it does not need to turn when pushing out?

    • @TimWilliamsHD
      @TimWilliamsHD  6 лет назад

      You don't need the tool as it doesn't need to be twisted, but you need to push piston back in and the clamp I had wasn't big enough to squeeze it back. The tool I think is more to do with ensuring you don't break any of the cogs inside the piston and to let the car brake differently as the pads are thicker I believe...

      You can also use your phone or tablet via ODBEleven or Carista… but yes anything with a rear electric parking brake requires it.
      Otherwise you have to disassemble the electric motor and spin manually and risk more damage.

      @@darylbrewster8885 I got an obdeleven from eBay for around 40 quid. Just as good as a vcds but cheaper and easy to use.
      I've used it to clear oil and service warnings as well as break release.
      You can see a few tutorials on youtube.

    • @hamletwalsh980

      You can do it with out the vcds I figured it out luckily very tricky Though with out it ... u need a brake pad spreading tool on in the caliper with one brake pad ... once you push the piston back in the break far as u can leave it there and go In the car and turn the key in the on position but not all way on with the car Running ... then put parking break on for 5 secs then take it off ... got back to the caliper and tighten the brake pad tool it should be loose and be able to tighten couple of turns after its tight again ... put parking break on for a 5 secs then turn it off again and then tighten tool Again ...do this about 10 times or more maybe and the piston should be pushed all the way in with out no vcds scanner tool mess with the computer on the car

    It’s not about battery it has to stay 12v or can damage the system
