You guys captured it. Genesis is obviously one of the many influences on the band. Big Big Train successfully captured the spirit of 1970's Genesis without overtly imitating it. What a great band and singer, he will be missed.
Andy Here... Thanks Troy.. Yeah, when I heard English Electric. It gave me the feeling that I got when listening to old Genesis, but as you say not trying to sound like them. It's the stories and emotion..
Thanks Alistair. We could not let it go by without saying something. We spoke about it before hand and BBT meant a lot to us and David's vocals had made us both love the band..
Sad loss - a great singer musician composer - and a new album to be released next year and a tour planned. I really hope the band pull through this as they’ve had many setbacks. But David is a big loss. East Coast Racer is astonishing as is Transit of Venus across the sun. They talked of family members and English themes about extraordinary ordinary people. Great song construction , skilfully played and complex arrangements. Listen to them if you haven’t. Some of the album covers by David’s partner.
You mentioned Uncle Jack... When I first heard that song it sounded to me as though the mid-seventies Phil Collins had just popped into the vocal booth! When you first start listening to David's voice you hear both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, but you soon realise it's pure David Longdon. Fantastic voice! Great Singer! Such a terrible loss!
Hi Jason.. Andy here. Yep exactly. The voice was unique, but you could tell he could have taken on the Gabriel era Genesis as well as the Phil Collins era.. would have been a great vocalist for Genesis, but had his own vocal style. As you say PURE Longdon.
I don't think any singer could have saved Genesis at that point and while I believe Ray did a fine job I would have much preferred David, his voice was right inbetween Peter and Phil. Genesis would have disbanded anyway, and David would have had it on his resume. Great loss, an exceptional vocalist who never got the credit he deserved.

Lovely tribute thank you. A week on and we are still numb. Saw them at Cadogan Hall,,
Basingstoke and Swansea all of which were very emotional times.

UnderFall Yard - “Last Train” is a must listen to track… captures the essence of BBT IMHO. RIP David…..
Wonderful tribute gentlemen. This truly is a great loss for the progressive community.
Thanks David.. Still hard to believe
Great tribute guys.. he will be remembered
Thanks Kevin.. Had to say something 😭
