    Hans, your production and narration skills are outstanding I really enjoyed this film. I'm beginning to think you should have your own TV channel as long as you can maintain your own values and not become sensationalist as TV seems to be these days. Keep up the good work!

      hello tony,
      thank you for watching and for your kind words about my video! I'm happy you like it and that you even think that my work has tv potential. but as you said yourself TV nowadays always has to be sensationalist and mainstream. I think I'm too silent for TV and I'm not willing to change anything just to fit in there!
      all the best,

    GREAT PRODUCTION!!!!!! Congrats on finding the dog tag it may give someone closure! my father's dog tag was returned to me recently ( he passed away 30 yrs ago) although he survived the war, the dog tag gives a us a link to the young man who started our family so long ago!

    • @janfast4712
      @janfast4712 7 лет назад

      Thanks for your kind response. The dogtags found in the area are all lost or discarded by German soldiers or units. That said they are very powerful mementos of the sodiers who visted the camp 1942-1944.

I will be attending an archeologist/ Metal Detecting expedition for 1 week at Montpelier, Virginia. This was the plantation Home of James Madison, 4th president of the U.S.A. I will be helping the archeologists find hot spots for future historic excavations.

    A genuine classic. I really enjoyed that video Hans. One thing that intrigues me is the difference between how a metal detectorist digs a find and how an archaeologist approaches the 'dig'. You were in your element with this video, brilliant, thank you very much x

    • @TerraGermaniaTG
      @TerraGermaniaTG  7 лет назад +1

      thank you for watching and for your kind words my friend :) ... there is a big difference of course in the way detectorists and archaeologists dig. we were looking for sites worth excavating and for this reason spot tests like the ones we did are quite useful.

    Ich freue mich sehr, dass Ihnen und Ihrer seriösen und professionellen Arbeitsweise eine solche gebührende Honorierung zuteil wird, indem Sie von den finnischen Archäologen zu den geplanten Grabungen eingeladen werden. Das ist wirklich eine Huldigung für Ihren tollen Einsatz!
    Das Interview mit dem finnischen Kollegen ist sehr wertvoll und zeigt, wie wichtig und hilfreich für die Archäologie eine adäquate und ernsthafte Umgangsweise sein kann. Toll!

    • @TerraGermaniaTG
      @TerraGermaniaTG  7 лет назад

      danke für die netten worte! es war eine ehre für mich diese einladung zu erhalten und selbstverständlich habe ich sie auch wahrgenommen. finnland ist nicht nur in der frage des umgangs mit sondengängern ein modernes, zukunftsgewandtes, liberales land. es gibt viele beispiele in denen finnland positiv vorangeht. ich hoffe, dass sich das verhältnis zwischen archäologie und sondengängern in deutschland weiter bessert. bisher bin ich hier jedenfalls noch keinem archäologen begegnet, der sich mit mir vor meine kamera stellen würde. echt schade!
      viele grüße,
      hans

    • @damijan72
      @damijan72 7 лет назад

      TerraGermania Ja, das erscheint mir auch etwas schwierig, liegt aber wohl auch am Vorgehen mancher, die dem Image der Sondengänger nicht gerade förderlich sind und die Voraussetzungen für eine Zusammenarbeit nicht gerade verbessern. Was man teilweise auf anderen Kanälen sieht, kann ich manchmal nur als kulturloses, von sowas wie "Abenteuerlust" getriebenes Freibeuter- und Barbarentum bezeichnen. Da wird "gesondelt" und gegraben ohne Ahnung und ohne Rücksicht auf irgendwas. Dass das einem Archäologen missfällt, erscheint nachvollziehbar. Gerade deswegen gefällt mir Ihr Kanal so gut, weil Sie dem ganzen Thema die gebührende Seriösität und Würde geben und ihr einen so besonderen Mehrwert verleihen.

    • @TerraGermaniaTG
      @TerraGermaniaTG  7 лет назад

      das kann ich auch sehr gut verstehen! manche sondengänger richten, wider besseres wissen, großen schaden an und wenige sind schlicht und ergreifend kriminell. das schadet natürlich dem ansehen der sondengänger, die von einem ehrlichen interesse an archäologie und geschichte angetrieben werden. man kann uns aber auch nicht in einen topf werfen. das wäre zu einfach und außerdem ungerecht.

      jackiesmiths Metaldetecting videos. I also live in UK. My metal detecting club was given the opportunity to help archaeologists on a roman site. I arrived and a room sized area was de-turfed. I detected the area and said can I dig the signals. The top archeologist said no just place a flag at the signal. I was told digging would upset the archeology layers. I then watched as a line of archeology and volunteer people troweled back a few inches deep the full de-turfed area. The maddening thing was they just troweled back round the flags. It was like they were not bothered about the finds. Never again will I help on an archeological dig. Brick walls and stains in the ground is all they interested in. Not sorry to say but there is still a wall between them and us. What really urks me is when a detectorist makes a fabulous find and it is declared treasure you would think the bloody archeologists had found it. Rant over.

    A departure (in more ways than one) from your usual viedos and hugely enjoyable. The subject matter gave you the opportunity to show your production and editing skills which are impressive, to say the least.
    It's so encouraging that archaeologists like Jan are so open to using detectorists in their work. That he recognises the present conflict between us and is prepared to find a way in which we can work together shows a man with vision and it is to be hoped that other archaeologists will see the benefits and we can all move forward for the benefit of all.
    Superb film, Hans, and thank you for making it. Take care and stay happy, me old mucker (another way of saying "my friend" if you hadn't hear the expression before!).

    Finland, the country I knew well as a kid though that was in the 1960s.Plenty of history there, I noticed something I learned at school about the boulders scattered all over that part of Finland are called erratics left by the retreating ice sheets at the end of the ice age. There are also many terminal moraines all over the Finnish landscape bulldozed by the colossal ice sheets that gradually retreated north. That's why there's no mountains there, only undulating hills with the stony ones bearing scrape marks left by boulders in the ice sheets as they moved forward during the advancing stage of the ice age. That would be the most ancient relics Finland can offer to you which also make a comfy seat to rest and admire the surrounding landscape. I do miss the berry picking seasons there but not the freezing winters. Thanks for sharing your trip and all the cool finds. Cheers from sunny Australia where I get to choose any climate at any time of year.
