      @JohnLCharette Yup. I bought it open boxfrom best buy last year and while doing some research on the card noticed my rgb wasn't working plus it was running a bit hot. It's more than likely a refurbished gpu with new thermals but I'm very happy with the card now. ✌️🤣

  • @gabzsy4924
    @gabzsy4924 Год назад +22

    Okay, after research, the XC3 has no fan issue nor any construction limitation, but instead it has a software one. Apparently the fan curve is set up so that the noise is minimized and even at higher temperatures the card limits itself for some reason. That being the case it is something very easily configurable with software and it should pretty much solve any issues.

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  Год назад +2

      Hey Gabzsy, thanks for the info! When I was testing cards, I’d set both fan speeds at either 70 or 80% of their max speed. Anything higher than that usually sounds like a jet engine.
      My experience was that a FTW3 at 70% fan speed cooled much better than an XC3 at the same speeds. I did conclude that if I ran the XC3 at 100% fan speed, I could keep similar temps but it was very loud.

    • @gabzsy4924
      @gabzsy4924 Год назад +1

      @@JohnLCharette That's interesting. Diverging data! What I read is that this model would perform just as well with a higher fan speed and would result at a similar or lower fan noise. Maybe some of the tests had different parameters and conditions plus the different units can totally deliver different results.

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  Год назад +1

      @Gabzsy yes very interesting! I know a lot of people love their XC3, so I don't want to crap on it too much. EVGA are very smart people and I feel like they'll do their best to create the best 2-slot card that they can. I'd like to see a comparison to the Asus TUF. @Breno, I would imagine they do. @TEAMEVGA is a very smart group. I'm guessing they created the XC3 line as a GPU that could fit into smaller cases with less power requirements, but also less cooling. That way they can appeal to both markets. If you want the best of the best, get the FTW3.

  • @harrybaals2549

    Only reason I bought this card was because it was one of only two or three choices that would fit into my build. I have a Corsair Crystal 460X case which is pretty small for a mid-tower, a front mounted rad, and a cable mod vertical GPU mount. That means I have very little horizontal space to work with. My Aorus 1080ti for example, was 1mm away from touching the front rad

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  2 года назад +1

      @Harry yes, that's the exact reason why you'd want to buy this card. You get the full potential of a 3080, inside a smaller form factor. Of course, the cards ability to cool itself is compromised, but that's part of the game. Have you considered water-cooling it?

    i have EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra / evga precision x1 - 3xfans on 65percent / max temp under full load + - 65 degrees /case be quiet! DARK BASE 900 big tower / room temp + - 25 degrees
    the problem with most PC cases is that there is no exhaust fan on the side of the case, so the sideways heat that blows out the card cannot escape, I solved that simply by placing a case fan on the left removable panel. If you keep your case closed, you will also retain most of the heat from the VGA card. And I can tell you that EVGA VGA cards are one of the top best of the best. Unfortunately, EVGA no longer makes graphics cards.

EVGA honors 2nd party RMAs which i just learned and it should be back this week but i wasn't aware there was so much difference between evga 3080s and i'll probably put it right back on ebay and get one that's more reliable.

      Hey Neil, I would absolutely consider upgrading. Two reasons: First, I dislike the Gaming Trio cards. Their thermals SUCK! There's a huge design flaw and their VRAM isn't touching the heatsink. You can find videos about it online. Secondly, you'll see a 25-30% boost in performance from a 3070 to 3080. I use a 34" ROG Ultrawide 1440p monitor @ 100hz, and my 3080 works well. I've tried 3090s and 3090 Tis and I still believe that a Strix or FTW3 3080 is the best GPU for the price. Let me know what you end up deciding!

      Oh yes. There's no concern that the XC3 card won't properly cool itself with it's own fans. Consider that I was REALLY pushing those cards with GPU mining when I tested them.. that puts extra load on the VRAM specifically. If you're using it for normal use, gaming.. it'll be fine. @HotSizzleTV yes you can download EVGA software called Precision X1 to configure your RGB lights on your GPU. I'm using a Phanteks P500A case in that video. I loved that case and miss it very much. But yes, to answer your question. You can should be able to swap the motherboard, CPU & RAM and keep everything else in your system. Lastly, no you cannot buy EVGA FTW3's from retail stores anymore as they aren't making them anymore. You can only buy them used. I still recommend the FTW3. They are amazing!

    Exactly! Everyone thinks the asus is better because of specs people need to stop letting s piece of paper tell them how performance is. The ftw3 can beat out an asus 3080 in thermals. Ive said it to many people regardless of what others may believe. I literally got into an argument today on reddit with people about It. Because supposedly evga could keep up in there opinion im like thats just not true lol. Evga always somehow out performs its specs. It always is better then people ans it usually gets top of the charts in real world usage especially with overclocking. Does asus have insanely high quality vrm? Yes they do but yet it still doesn't make it better. Its clewr evga went for stability this year ans it has clearly hhelped. Just like it 3090ti it has the bedt temps of any air cooled 3090ti on the mmarket. It in turn allows for better overclocking without thermal throttling happening. Its just so so good! People get so upset when I talk about evga being better b there step up program is awesome. There customer service is clearly the best. There cards always perform and outperform what they tell you it is guaranteed to do. They sre the overclocking cards imo. So people should stop just saying something more expensive is bbetter. Like asus I amazing but it doesn't mean in real world its better evga at mimum is as good. Its why evga and asus are always placed 1-2 every year now they are always the top for performance ans not specs or a list but performance by Testing.

      Jacob or Peter from EVGA, is that you? ;) Love the thorough comment! I think we'd get along great. I completely agree with you. Currently, I have two 3080s.. a Strix and a FTW3. I've compared them both and the FTW3 out performs it every time. Better cooling and I can push the VRAM much harder when mining. I'm working on a new build soon and selling off that 2nd system. I'm going to sell the Strix and keep the FTW3 for myself ;)

      @@JohnLCharette yeah Def not Jacob or Peter but I agree. It's crazy because you have publications going oh its only a stretched founders edition pcb they didn't do anything extra. It's like wow are you kidding me? It's getting tiring seeing the publications always look internally and think they can assume it's performance won't be as good. Yet it's able to push more power and its able to OC better. Not to mention it has 19 phases compared to 14 lol. It's kind of like the evga ftw3 3090ti. It doesn't have 24 phases it has 21 yet people are getting 2225 to 2250 stable which most other air cards are not getting. It's cooling never gets above 65 to 70c either. It's a monster and it's outperforming all the other air cooled 3090ti yet if you look at msi suprim x you would assume the msi would outperform it due to the extra phases yet it doesn't. Most are getting around 2165 stable on that card tops! Evga just knows what they are doing to make a stable card that can be pushed. It's pretty incredible and people reslly need to test these cards instead of listening to publications that only read specs. Like techpowerup I love them but at first the msi suprim x was looking like it was going to outperform the evga. Yet when you look at there real world numbers ans there testing in games. You match up each game and the evga beats it even stock by 1 to 2fps. Then when overlclocked it was able to be pushed further yet the initial page they placed the suprim x higher because of certain things that imo don't really tell you everything. So when it came to performance the evga beat it. Idk how evga does it but they know what they are doing. They have been at the top with performance for a while now.
