As a woman who travels solo, I absolutely love that they do that. Way to go Carnival!
Exactly. That's awesome.
I agree , certainly want my room steward to be checking that I am ok
Amen to that! I'm a solo cruiser, too, and I make sure to get in good with my cabin steward. Better safe than overboard! 😁
I stayed at a hotel & put my sign out. On the 2nd day, I had a letter under my door stating after the 3rd day someone would enter my room
Because men are always safe 🙄
As a solo cruiser and a woman, it's good to know cruise staff is trained to do those things. It seems silly in hindsight, but I'd rather someone come check on me and ensure my safety than potentially end up a statistic. Thank you for sharing this!
I am an older female solo traveler and this happened to me. I left my snoozing card on my door for a few days but I was out and about all the time. I was with a group of people I met in Fortune Teller bar and security came up to me and began to check me out. I was wondering if they thought I was partying too much, but no!! Smiles. It was a wellness check.
I'm happy that Carnival is checking on passengers. Carnival has had its share of complaints from passengers and others that the cruise line should somehow know the whereabouts of all of its cruisers. Can't blame them for going a little overboard (intentional humor) in making sure everyone's okay. The garbage bag part is pretty funny actually.
@woofgangpug Yeah, I wonder if they would have been so concerned about the garbage bag before the tv show, CSI!😉😆
I never realized
I believe that all the major cruise ships do this.
I was feeling Ill on a recent carnival cruise, and elected to stay in my cabin for a couple days to rest up, with the snoozin sign on my door, security entered my cabin with me in it, to ‘check on me’
Very unexpected and not appreciated.
wow..... i'm 100% impressed by this!!! way to go, Carnival!!
Keeping up to date with everything going on in “Snooooozing” 👍🏼
Uh, oh...I think I hear a call coming in from PETTA(People for Ethical Treatment of Towel Animals)...Better hide, Tony!
On a serious note..Very informative! Glad to see the crew keeping track of these kind of subtle things and looking out for the well being of the cruisers! Good job, big kudos for them on their part!
So calm and gentle with El Mono, yet harsh and violent with the towel animal. I have alerted Carnival to the cavalcade of oddness going on in your cabin.
I'm impressed that Carnival has this safety check… we are seasoned cruisers, and I never knew this !! Thanks for reporting Tony!!
Hotels are the same way. We have to check the room every two or 3 days just to make sure everything is okay in the room and that you're okay. There have been times when someone has had their do not disturb sign on the door for several days and they passed away. So that's why we have to do wellness checks.
Had a wellness check on Royal a few years back pre-covid. Hubby wasn't feeling well when we got to cozumel so we decided to skip our early morning excursion and let him rest. We slept in and then just went into cozumel on our own for some shopping/lunch. The next day was a sea day i think so we also slept in and i guess the room steward must've reported it because we got a phonecall in our room asking if we were ok. Glad to know they're looking out for the well-being of the passengers!
I had the same experience at a hotel, only 3 nights so I didn't feel the housekeepers needed to clean. I was surprised when the security staff knocked very loudly and wanted to know if we were Ok, because I saw the housekeeper every morning and exchanged dirty towels for clean ones. I am happy with the policy, good they check on people
I love coming back to a nice clean cabin and the goofy animal towels we would see our cabin Steward several times a day, always have wonderful conversations with him. He was a good guy Luda.
Note to self: Don't ask for whip and handcuffs and put up do not disturb sign.
I never happened to me, but I never used the Snoozin' door sign for more than a few hours at a time, & I always bring 1 empty bag (ex. Trash bag, laundry bag, etc.). However I have forgotten to bring other things (ex. My fan 😂). As a DV survivor, I'm glad the employees check on the passengers. I hope your group enjoys the rest of the cruise. 💜💛
That's great to know! I will be cruising solo for the first time since my husband passed away, and was feeling rather nervous. This has made me feel a lot more secure 😊
Evelyn, As I wrote above I travel solo also. I always feel very safe when I am on board, I think a cruise ship is one of the safest places to be. I do use my “ in a crowd of people I don’t know skills” and basic common sense. Smiles.
@@conniepalmer7493 Thanks for sharing that Connie.I appreciate your kindness.
Hilton Hotels do this as well! At Disneyland we had our sign up & both the manager & security called and knocked when we came back from the parks and asked if we were okay. It was jarring but I felt good knowing the hotel had procedures in place for "just in case" moments.
Hi Tony. Love the baby that came to visit and show a little love. So cute. Glad you had a good time with the family. I think it's great that security checked on that couple with the sign on the door. Doing the right thing, I'm totally ok with that. You never know what could be going on. Hope you, Jenny and the family are having a great time. ❤❤ Oh the poor towel pet 😂
Also glad that the little guy did not molest Tony, like what happened to another Cruisetuber.
i looked at the end about 30 times the way you smacked the towel of the bed had us cracking up🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes, this has happened to me. I travel solo often and so I don't need all those towel changes. I'm a travel neat freak as well! Royal flagged me at the bar later once I used my card to buy a drink. Security took me aside and questioned me letting me know that the room attendant hadn't seen me in a couple of days. 😂 So now I know don't let it go more than 2 days.
TONY! Heads up, PETTA called me after I watched the video, creepy i know, but i held firm and said "I DIDN'T SEE NOTHING!!" And they hung up. Luckily they apperently don't know about the old double negative. Good work keeping those animals in line.
I have a similar story from the Celebration a few weeks ago when we were on the ship. Overall I was really impressed with the security team on the Carnival Celebration. Super professional.
That’s impressive. A big ✅ for checking up. Thank you Tony for letting us know.
A coincidence that towel animal had it’s aft to you at the beginning? I think not. 😂😂
Wow. That’s wild about the sign, but so glad they check on people.
Had something similar happen in Las Vegas. We didn't have a sign out but we had not called for housekeeping to come clean our room since we arrived. It had only been a couple of days. We happened to be in our friend's room when security knocked on their door for the same reason. They just wanted to make sure everything was okay.
Not on a cruise but i did stay at a hotel where housekeeping was on request. However they stated every 3 days they would come and check the rooms
What an amazing story I actually take comfort from this and have a newfound appreciation for my cabin stewards great show
This happens in hotels too - and especially in Las Vegas - if you keep your do-not-disturb sign out for more than a day someone will knock on your door to check on you. Usually in Vegas I don't need or want housekeeping until I run out of something, and I'll get periodic visits from "management." Once I think they forgot to clear the "check on him" notation in the computer and I had three "visits" in one afternoon.
My room steward on Royal just told me about this process a week ago. She said if someone has the “DND” sign on the room for more than two days they are required to notify their manager. All for safety reasons. A good process.
Good to know Carnival keeps an eye on their passengers. Don't know how it's done in other countries, but Grand Hyatt here in São Paulo has a disclaimer in the DND sign that they *will* check in on the guests and also check the room, if the DND sign stays on the doorknob for longer than 24h.
It almost seems that one surrenders one’s identity to the cruise masters, your behavior and movements tightly controlled - and only for an obscene and small fortune-
Never, never ever will we cruise. The cost, the unpredictability and in general the amount of b.s. is a game changer for us. Can’t use my THC meds for my metastatic cancer pain? Screw it…
Thanks Tony - always a good show!
It's a FEDERAL LAW. As most countries you travel to don't even allow medical use, you could be in a world of trouble. It is legal here in Maine. I do take a gummie every now and again when the pain is too much. My husband is a truck driver. He must abide by federal law. So even if he was to have an edible in Maine, then get asked to do a test, the feds say no THC. So he would lose his job. Bye-bye CDL and bye-bye to our LLC. It's not the cruiselines' fault that it isn't legal on the federal level. It's Washington DCs fault.
@@jenbrooks5872 Don’t you think that society as a whole could benefit from a uniform Federal policy that would de-criminalize possession and use? We are reasonable people, not children and we deserve to have the right to make personal decisions for ourselves.
States like mine who now regulate the sales of THC products are reaping a financial fortune right now - and we can debate the ethics of that later but within limits, people aren’t routinely being arrested anymore and the town, county and state pull in revenues…
Happy to hear they are on the lookout for any potential interpersonal problem
Oh ok im glad they r concerned. Thanx Carnival
Why Tony, why!!! Not the towel animals. They're the best. 😂
In light of all of the missing people/people going overboard on cruises recently, perhaps they are being even more vigilant. I think it's great!! Good for them!
I cruise and go on resort vacations SOLO. My cruise cabin and condo, hotel room is so neat that it looks like nobody is there. I put my stuff away and keep my personal hygiene and makeup bags in the bathroom put away also, towels are hung up. The way the room looks at check is the way it looks when I leave it everyday and at checkout. I just got off a Celebrity cruise and my cabin attendant met me the first day so she knew what I looked like and passed me in the hallway also a few times. Well one day when she ran into me, she asked me if stayed in my cabin because her supervisor said it looked like nobody was staying there. hehehe I fell out laughing. She asked the cabin attendant what she was cleaning because the cabin was not filled. I told the cabin attendant that I am just really tidy. I showed her that my clothes were hanging in the closet and in the drawers and she said that I didn't even have stuff in the bathroom, I said I most certainly do, my personal hygiene bag and my makeup bag is right there under the sink in view. She said she was just concerned and so was the supervisor. I understand that and need to be more messy in the future. I have had the same situations when I am at hotels and at a resort. Sorry if I'm too tidy HOWEVER I do appreciate that they notice how we're living and it's good also for a welfare check. I appreciate that. I prefer to travel SOLO or if I travel with a group, I prefer to have my space and peace. Good lookng out on the part of the cruiseline for that couple.
I stayed a week at an expensive rental timeshare in Florida and had a really difficult time with the Manager over my request to not have daily housekeeper service. I don't like to plan my day around being out of the Apartment for them to tidy up, and I can make my own bed. Finally I figured out why the Manager was so adamant that I have a daily visit. She admitted that once a "guest" had set up a Meth Lab in a suite that exploded, so the daily Tidy up is really a security check. I compromised and allowed the daily check for security, but not a Tidy-up and we were both happy.
It is good that they are checking up on people! I kept my sign out on Princess last week, but my steward saw me coming and going, nonstop!
I appreciate them doing that ❤.
We had something similar happen on Princess. We always travel in a full suite - especially on a 15-day cruise. The ship was a Noro ship - full blown...CDC even boarded us, we were denied entry into several ports...it was horrible. So, we thought it prudent to just spend our time on our substantial balcony and avoid as many people as possible. Kept the do not disturb sign out. I caught the room steward peeking between partitions at us from the balconies on either side of us on several occasions but didn't say anything. Well, he turned us in as being sick. Even though we weren't. We were remanded down to the medical bay to prove we weren't sick. We argued saying we were not going down with a bunch of sick people when we were doing our damnedest to avoid getting sick. We explained our reasoning, assured the powers that be that we were fine. All for naught. We were escorted down to sick bay where we proved we were not sick. But, you guessed it, we were 3 days later. To say we were pissed off was the biggest understatement ever made in our lives. It was our 53rd cruise and we'd successfully avoided Noro on all of the previous ones. btw - it was our last cruise on Princess.
Yeah I had the same thing happened to me. I wanted to be left alone, no room clean. My choice. Boat security came knocking on my door I was not in the best mood he then asked how many in my cabin I said one he asked if he could look, I opened the door said look and get out of my cabin. I paid for cruise to be left alone. I just went on the same Cruise a year earlier with a co-worker of mine we had the door hanging sign the entire time. Her and I never got bothered about it. And nobody ever asked us or cleaned our room we did it ourselves.
I think that’s awesome they checked in! Keep up the great work!!!!
Excellent. That attentive steward deserves extra praise and a name check in the post cruise survey!
I had to chuckle when you said garbage bag and "nefarious". 🙂 I got a vision of a Dateline episode. But you never know these days, and I am so happy that the staff check on people to make sure they are safe.
Never have had that happen. This is one of the reasons I like the Medallion on Princess cruises. They can see if you're in your cabin or not even with a "sleep hanger" on the door. Love the monkey!! Someday I will get to do this. Thanks for sharing :)
I love my room service! As two traveling widow ladies we love coming back to a clean cabin and I still like the evening turn down service as well.
love the wellness check
Loved, loved, loved our room steward on the Celebration!!! Talked to him every chance we got!!! Glad we got to see him on embarkation day, slid him a little tip!!!
Embarkation or disembarking?
WOW, never thought about that door sign- Makes sense, I guess!!! Interesting
Never would have thought of this. Thanks so much.
i was on MSC last month, and didn't want my room cleaned every day. on the 3rd day i left the DND light on, i received a note from housekeeping stating that if i wanted my room cleaned, I needed to check in with them via cust serv desk, or the stateroom phone. no wellness check, however i did however see my attendant in that timeframe, so maybe that's why
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣THE End has me in Tears!!! O.M.G i needed that. Thanks Tony!!!
It’s just extra security. Bravo!
Thanks so much for sharing this info.!!!
I also do not like my room serviced, and I keep that DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door.
I will understand going forward to initially make my serviceperson aware of this to avoid this type of occurrence.
I’m glad they checked.
Interesting. I did not even think about that in leaving the sign on the door indefinitely. Cool.
We had this happen to us too a few years back. We just didn't feel the need to make our steward clean our rooms daily. But, because of this, security asked us to open the door and let them in for questioning and to ensure the Mrs was ok as well. Now we just have them clean daily. It's just easier for all parties it seems.
Wow that's good to know. Thank you for the information.
In June we spent a week in West Bay, Roatan. Stayed at the Bananarama. Loved it!!!
My wife Kathy and I were pleased to meet you in person on the Celebration last week, Tony. Hope you had a great time like we did.
Well as they say you learn something every day. I did not know that you couldn't leave your sign out. That was good information and something to keep in mind for my hopefully soon next cruise! I usually don't put that sign out unless I'm actually sleeping and then I usually take it back in in the morning so I'm not too worried but I really didn't know that information. Keep it coming!
The sign deal is happening in hotels, too (although usually after more than just 2 days). Especially after the Vegas incident where the guy was stockpiling weapons (not that that would happen on a ship) and had the DND on his door for days, lots of hotels announced that they have the right to enter to make sure everything is okay. I see why ships would do that, too, if only to make sure everyone is okay. P.S. I'm proud of you for getting that monkey off your back. P.P.S. That was one sad-looking towel animal.
A friend of mine had this exact thing happen to her on an Alaskan cruise. She found a voice mail on her room phone to call guest services, and then guest services sent security to her room to check on her.
Thanks, Tony. This was very helpful. I'm glad they check!
I agree, Tony. We always try and say g'day to our room steward when we see him/her. They're already over-worked and then them having to deal with a missing passenger would just add to their stress.
That’s good to know
Had something similar at Disney World in Florida. We set our trashbag outside our door. We kept our room clean and tidy. Did not need room services. Hung the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door. After the second day started getting calls from the floor supervisor and then from the front desk. On the evening of the third day I let them in to look around. They thanked us for keeping the room so clean and left.
You are ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! I have not been on a cruise yet ever, but you make it look fun. You are soooo epic to watch, never boring, & have this way about you that I immediately hit the subscribe button after first checking out the channel. Totally the life of the party. Total fun, and you really really portray the news so well, I wanna watch just for news updates. Please keep up with your cruise news and interesting odd events happening.
If you ever wanna try to branch out to other news areas, like flying, or even local state or city news, immediately jump on it, you will not fail.
I have my first cruise coming up, 8 days now. I'd never thought of it until I ran into Gary Bembridge (Tips for Travellers), then RUclips started showing me Emma (Emma Cruises), Ilana (Life Well Cruised), and Tony here.
Point is: you will hardly be the first person to be introduced to cruising through these wonderful RUclips vloggers!
(PS: I've found Ilana's planner helpful.)
The sign on the door for two days was a red flag to me and asking for a garbage bag was a bit weird. It's like when you haven't seen a neighbor for a while and you see mail and packages piling up on the porch, it makes you wonder if all is ok. I think security did a great job. You never know what might happen and Carnival doing this makes me very happy knowing I can feel safe on the ship. WTG Carnival
Okay, that was quite a twist from what I was expecting. Kudos to Carnival, and any other lines that also do this, for checking on their passengers.
Thats awesome that they are looking out for cruisers this way. Thanks for having our back Carnival! Lookin' good Tony! Keep up the good work!
I am here 1st. I think its great they check on you. When i travel alone i set up a schedule in advance with the cabin attendant, just because i do not need cleanup everyday🚢😊
I had that happen a couple of years ago. I was exhausted on a long cruise and slept a lot for a couple of days. They had seen Fran come and go, but not me. I guess they thought he might've harmed me so they called the room, then they broke in, because I slept through the call. Glad they are checking on people!
How hilariously cute was the little monkey!?Loved how calm you were
Once, while on a Princess cruise I didn't leave the room for 2 days. Had some back issues and the muscle relaxers knocked me out. Room attendant knocked both days and told him my issue and only needed towels. On the afternoon of the 2nd day I had 3 Princess employees, (officers from how they dressed)knocking. I hobbled to the door and told them of my predicament. Assured them I didn't need medical. They were very polite but thank goodness the 3rd day I was up and about. I was appreciative of their concern.
I LOVE THAT ! ! !! ! ! ! Safety comes first ! ! ! ! ! Love My Carnival :)
We were on Disney wonder about 10 years ago, and we had two cabins because it was two adults and three children. Well, the kids decided that they didn’t want to sleep in the cabin that was like two doors down and so we all stayed in one cabin. And the cabin steward noticed that nobody had been staying in that cabin and panicked, and came to the other cabin door to check in. I thought that was super awesome!
I’m glad you made it back. People are stuck behind a mudslide. Sad to see people coming back with broken bones and a person being taken out in an ambulance.
That is interesting and it makes sense. I have not been on a cruise yet so this is great advice! Especially since I tend to leave that type of sign out for hotel rooms.
Good on the room steward for doing his job!!!!!
In the hotel business this is quite common. Most hotels will have a two + policy where if your DND is on your door more than two days, they'll do a wellness check. People do get sick when they travel, some maybe party too hard (drugs, alcohol), and sometimes people do pass away (natural causes). But it is also to check that the room isn't being damaged (smoking, getting trashed). So, good on crusing in general to have this policy in place as well. 🎉
Lol loved the monkey. So cure. He was trying to figure out what you were looking at.
Am subscribed and even hit the like button. Yes, leaving the snoozing sign up for a few days might make the staff think something has happened. One time I worked in a Hotel/Casino. A lady didn't come down to meet the bus to go home. My SGT was sent up to the room to check. She must have died in her sleep.
Great video.
I leave the “do not disturb” sign on for most of our cruise. I have them come in, maybe, twice in ten days. This is good to know.
I love my room being checked and cleaned every day. We see our room steward every day as well. No problems here.
My first cruise there was a passenger that had a sign on his door from Athens to Alexandria. When they finally opened his door, in Alexandria,he was deceased. What made it worse was none of his contact info was correct, we were in a Muslim country after dark, and it was a weekend and getting ahold of the consulate was difficult! Yes, we left a few hours late but the communication helped everyone chill.
How sad and awful.
I love that they do this safety check on passengers!
Mahogany Bay my most favorite cruise stop just love it there have you been to the marine life rescue yet we did a island cruise there and it was great. got it on my list for next year.
My favorite excursion even though I thought I was going to pass out from the heat.
I’m not trying to stay up-to-date with “everything going on in ca- roo-zing,” but I am subscribed anyway, because I find you very entertaining! I cruised once. It wasn’t for me. I like seeing the beautiful ports of call, and you are fun to watch.
challenge accepted ... I am so going to try this. I get bored easy, a giant game of hide and seek with the crew and security is right up my alley
The same thing happened to my niece when we were on a carnival cruise. We had just came out of the liquid lounge on the Sunshine and they pull my niece boyfriend aside and asked if he was ok. They had the snoozing sign up from day one. Good lookout Carnival!,
nefarious . love that word. thanks for the heads up.
We would often put out the Snoozin' sign (especially in the afternoons, since two cleanings a day is a bit much); but we had a very good relationship with our steward, and would talk to him even when we were nowhere near our room.
I am like you with those hideous towel animals. They put off an erie vibe staring at you. Like the doll Chuckie. I do not want them on top of bed when I go to sleep. HA HA
I’m not mad at the wellness check. I travel solo and usually keep the DND sign on my door because I don’t require much…now I know what to expect….glad they care.
We where on Splendor and the happen to me and my niece good looking out CARNIVAL 🎉🎉
Man, PETTA is going to be upset today! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
