How fun to stumble upon a random RUclips recommendation art video and spot Moomin in it! All of us Finns have grown up with Moomin and his family's adventures in Moominvalley. Moomins are pretty popular in Europe, especially in the northern countries. He's called Muumipeikko in Finnish and the creator is a Finnish writer Tove Jansson. She wrote books and those were eventually made in to an iconic cartoon in the 90's (or should I say anime as it was made in Japan). Moomins have many new cartoons made more recently, also in English!
I need to slow down, and thank you for reminding me. I absolutely love your artwork, it always seems to touch that little soft spot in my heart. Mumi was created by Tove Jansson, a wonderful writer and artist from Finland. She created several books with Mumi and his family and friends, living in the beautiful Mumi valley. I think the first book was published in 1945. I used to love her stories, when I was a child - and I still do... Now I need to go to the basement of my house and dig out an old childrens book:) Thanks for sharing your wonderful work.
I had no idea, thank you for letting me know the origin of my brush rest! Have fun reliving memories and finding something adorable to paint. Once you start though, it is quite addictive LOL
This album is so stunning, so Japanese in style, beautifully reflecting the Japanese Kuretake paints. I am really keen to get this set now and start playing!
Thank you so much! It is a stunning palette and creating in this sketchbook reminds me of that when I open it up to paint in it. You won't regret it, I promise!
@@kellyhoernig My set has just arrived this morning, along with their Graphite set which I am also really keen to try. I am loving your style... New subscriber!!
@@denisespillane9242 I hope you love it, such a different palette from what it out there! I did see the granulating set, just wasn't inspired to try it out at this moment, thanks for the recommendation.
Goodness this is the best random suggested video!! I love your demeanor and your style. The way you explain your craft is a real - real inspiration! So glad yo have found you! Thanks for sharing!
I just print it out from the computer and use handmade graphite paper (look at my 5 top watercolor secrets video) and transfer it. Then I ink it and erase the graphite. Thanks for asking!
Thank you Kelly. I thoroughly enjoyed this. I have this watercolour set but haven't used it yet. Are you able to show how you made your concertina book?
There are many concertina sketchbook tutorials on RUclips. I created this one for my Found & Curated course. Glad you enjoyed it and get that set out and have fun with it, it is too pretty to not be used.
Beautiful! I especially love the mushrooms.🍄 And the Kuretake paints are my favorite, including the graphites, although so far I’m not crazy about the new granulating set.
They did turn out pretty beautiful especially with the depth of venetian red. Thank you for letting me know about the others, I will have to look into them.
The concertina sketchbooks are so fun because of the never ending story. Make it exciting for yourself with things you love so you will continue to fill it up!
As usual, a wonderful video! Kelly. Are you still sending a weekly newsletter. I’ve signed up and never get one, I even look in my junk folder. Also your art spark class and your class found and curated, beginning in 2025. Are they meant to complement each other or to stand alone? Is there benefit for taking both at the same time. Or should one come before the other? Thank you CZ
Yes, I'm still sending out the Rooted Chronicles. They come out every Monday morning so check your spam folders if you are not receiving them. Art Spark is a stand alone course with 21 months waiting for you. Found & Curated will become available in November for 2025. I have to finish the 2024 session of it first. They are totally different courses. Art Spark is more playful in sketching, prompts and simplistic watercolor paintings. Found & Curated is about story telling, creating art that relates to you and delving into finding your artistic voice and style through the series of exercises in the course. Hope this answers your questions!
Ok hold up. I'm gonna need to see in more detail how you did the binding on your sketch book. I've been making my own sketchbooks in all kinds of sizes and ways, but I'm always looking for as much knowledge as I can get to learn more about making them. P.S. Your art journals are so gorgeous. I love the pale palettes you work in.
There is no binding on this particular sketchbook because it is made into one continuous piece of paper that's been folded and glued together. Just glue the front and back pages to the game boards (sketchbook covers) and you are ready to go.

Your splash technique makes everything look so dreamy and magical. Really lovely. 🥰 Thank you for sharing. ❤
Glad I could introduce you to a new and fun technique such as splashing. Welcome to In the Studio!
He's adorable and even more cute knowing the backstory that @Jenniii86 shared. Thank you for another great tutorial.
It really did change the way I look at the little guy! Thanks for watching!
Love your soft style… Thank You !
Thank you so much, I am trying to be bolder yet it still seems delicate overall somehow LOL
Love this. I have been looking at that set and now I have to get it. Your work is like delicate dance between paint water and paper. Thank you
I love that definition/description so much, thank you for that!
Well I got it. And have you seen their granulation g set? I think they maybe bright for you but they seem fabulous. One has rust looking effect

That little guy is Mr. Personality!❤
Perfect description of him, love it!
OMG the brush rest is too cute! I have porcelain kitty cats that are doing the cat move where they stretch but their head and butt are up!
I saw the kitties and they are adorable. I have puppies, a panda and hippo - they just make me smile when creating!
i love your sketchbook!
Thank you so much, appreciate you watching!
