Really appreciate this post! A rescue pup has gobbled corners off of many things. Dressers, baseboards, flooring, etc. I have what I thought I would need to repair but after watching this, I need to go back to the store. Thanks for the knowledge
Exactly what I did. Moved into my new place. Saw this beautiful carved framed mirror at a Home Goods. Huge. Too expensive, though. 2 months later went back to look for more items I needed. There it was, had a cracked corner , small section broken of. For $15!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Was $220 before. Took it home got supplies, easier than I thought, when finished, couldn’t tell it had been damaged. Very happy.
I have a tip to get real square edges when sanding when I built furniture! Because If you sand by hand OR with a sanding block, straight edges will get rounded. -Find a 90degree angle, i used a plastic saw guide from Home Depot. -Cut a pice of sandpaper and fixate it with sticky tape on one of the inner faces. -You can now use the 90degree angle tucked against the tabletop to sand the edge with perfect outcome!
Wow, this is literally what I do for work and it’s cool to see even the same product I use😂 I haven’t ran into someone else doing these cosmetic repairs.
This is incredibly helpful thank you for sharing! Based on this video I’m not sure I’ve ever used the wax stick correctly but now I see their value. Thanks again!
Don’t forget to tell everyone that when you razor it you have to do it at the right time before it’s hard. And don’t forget to tell everyone about the second application you made cuz the point got razored off so you did a jump cut. And this only applies to painted surfaces, not stained
Yeah it called bondo. Usually used as an auto body filler but preforms quite well on wood and plastic. Should harden to the shapable point within 10 minutes
Yeah monitor the excess blue wood filler after application, there is à magic moment where you can shave the high spots so you aren't having to sand and breathe that blue wood filler.
@@martinjaramillo2429 I agree with you 100% martin! What I do is I keep stirring up the little piece of cardboard that I mix it on so when it gets to the right phase, then I know the work is at the right phase and I can get out it with a razor
Actually, that’s the furniture before it was damaged. The made the second half of the video, smashed the corner, and then made the first half of the video.
Would've never thought to fill wood with wood filler.....like I never knew it was strait up called "wood filler". I've always called it wood putty or something like that. Very nice!
I use those fill sticks to touch up cabinetry, but never thought to use it on a surface prior to finishing. Wouldn’t paint or stain not adhere to the wax?
@@jcarry5214that’s what I was thinking it’s a nice touch definitely but I feel like it’d make paint not stick as better to the surface but if it works it works and is a nice touch to the job
Its from a company called "mohawk". I fix furniture for a living and its easy for me to get because the all the furniture company I've ever worked for have an account with them but for the general public it think is way harder to get them. They have similar products at home depot.
Dude wow that looked great thank you for that tip I have a couple pieces that ima try that on it won't work with stained furniture any tips for those pieces
using mohawk paints, the issabella suite works best as a base over the raw wood before the flat white paint. it covers better so ou need less white. im an IQI for a company and this is my job repairing all issues before they get delivered to cuustomers.
You can also use baking soda and super glue just put tape on the edge and put the baking soda in there and let the super glue soak in it'll set up hard as a rock sand it flush it's a great repair method
Mostly through experience.. But there is this company called Mohawk that makes most of the colors that match Ashley furniture pieces. They’ll send you a color catalog if you contact them.
That looks like two-part bondo filler. There's a "plastic" stage where you can easily shave it down. If you wait till it fully hardens you'll have your work cut out for you.
@@guystephens2881 They make an open rasp that I like to call a cheese grater. There's a point where the bondo is a soft plastic consistency. Use said rasp or similar tools to quickly shape. They you can finish up after it fully hardens. But yes, once cured it's a bitch to sand. I haven't done it in a while but I used to use oil based kilz to prime, then paint. I do feel bad for the next guy who's excited to sand it all down to show off the original woodwork...
As someone who used to work at a furniture store, the amount of effort this man puts into repairing cheap furniture is commendable! Well done sir 🤙🏼
It was still wrapped in plastic so apparently it seems it was damaged during moving and needs repaired

Honestly even if the colors dont match perfectly its hard to tell unless you already knew where they already were
The way furniture is painted these days it's not hard to make it look look when the original paint job was bad

Try Bondo, which is a better and tougher filler. I've used wood filler, but after stumbling across bondo, I've not gone back.
