Man Paul when I picked up my Trombone after not playing for over 20 years I did my research on Trombone players on RUclips. I honestly wasn't aware of anyone that plays the Trombone as a professional soloist but boy was I fooled when I stumbled on Marshall Gilks RUclips videos. I was in amazement of how well he played the Trombone and his articulation as well. A part from you, he's definitely someone that I'm going to add to my list of favorite Trombone Players. I love the way he practices with the basic and keeping things simple. Thanks again for sharing this inspiring video!

Paul, after interviewing so many incredible trombonist you should one of the elites by now! All kidding aside I like Gilkes approach to double tonguing, keeping all notes the same. I always figure these trombonist figure out their own articulations. I personally use da-dul-da-dul or tul-dul-lu-dul-lu-du. It’s all about figuring what works best for you. Enjoy your content!

Edenderry is a marvelous treat. I was able to see him play at the Univ. Oregon a few years ago with the Oregon Jazz Ensemble. What a fantastic show! Luckily, my son was also attend Interlochen Arts Academy for his senior year, on trombone. If you want to help young musicians, do all you can to get him or her enrolled there. The gift of music is forever.

Great video, Paul. I thought was the only weirdo who walked around doing the same tonguing/doodle thing that Marshall does. It's inspiring to think I stumbled upon something that amazing player like Marshall does too!

i wouldn’t recommend this technique. you need to relax a lot more. don’t squeeze the stick as much. the drum and stick won’t produce as much resonance that way. nice chops though 😊
