  • It's so easy to get stressed in recovery, especially when you're underweight or malnourished in some way. I find I can be fine one minute and then something goes wrong and all of a sudden I'm falling apart. UGH.

      Bless you, thanks for the message. Funnily enough a couple of people pointed me to you too & I just love your channel & instagram. It’s helping me so much at the moment to hear from people who are living life, & I’m sure there’s still struggles but you talk so openly about it all & how you’ve learnt from what you’ve been through & how you want to keep building you & your life. Veryyyyy inspiring, thank you 😘😘

    This is so good for me today. Last night I had more breadsticks at Olive Garden than I had "planned" (disordered, I know😭) and I was so mad the rest of the night. It's so good to have a community where you're not alone

    When I was very underweight I got angry each time someone asked me a question. In fact the questions were not stupid and people were kind to me but it was just so difficult to speak (and my speech was very slow and quiet). Each time I had to response I thought "aaaahhhh, why do you make me open my mouse, could you shut up at least for a few moments please?".

      Megsy Recovery, I've got much more energy right now, thank you) But I often experience the stuff you told about. When body has no resources for making decisions and etc. And the mood is still low most of the time. Sometimes it even seems everyone just pretends having any interests and fun other then food and their lives are like mine - just waiting between meals (in fact I understand my ED just tells me everything is like it's supposed to be and everyone should suffer all the time, so continue). And it's hard to distinguish whether my head is full of thoughts about food because I'm underweight, or am I just lazy and weak to end the meal and go get stuff done. That's why your videos are so important for me. You really help to get back on track and believe things will get better if I gain some weight.

    I relate to this so much. My mum has always said that she could tell what kind of place I was in by looking at my reactions. I would go off like a firecracker over the silliest things.
    Thank you for sharing your journey. So proud of you. X

    I can definitely relate to this. I recently was late for a yoga class so I couldn't go in and had a meltdown and cried all the way home lol Also, I heard this saying while I was in treatment once "Do you want a good day or a good life" Kind of the same thing! Like do you want the immediate gratification of the ED or the long term gratification of being healthy? Anyways, loved the video as usual. Stay strong!

    One of my big things is over thinking and dwelling on things that I have no control over! Thank you meg, you amazing starrrr!

    Oh i can't even begin to tell how much i needed this video at the moment! Yesterday i got a ticket in the tram. Although while paying it i acted okey but the second i stepped out i broke down completly crying and overwhelmed with hate toworths myself. I don't have the money to really spend on anything let alone this and i just got taken away 50 bucks. And accually like you said, the first thing my head was thinking; your not allowed to eat anymore (not sure how that plan will work out in the long term really). Yes getting a ticket is a stressfull thing, but the world won't stop and you will wake up tomorrow again. Many hugs and thank you lots!

    You know what? I have no idea what my set point is, and I'm 58-years old! I was a skinny little kid, but was gaining weight and getting some nice curves until I became anorexic at 18. I've been in quasi recovery (some years much better than others) ever since my first recovery at age 19, and I never allowed myself to weigh more than a certain amount until just a bit ago. It should be an interesting adventure to see where this old, post-menopausal body takes me. Lol!

    I’ve really been struggling this past week. It’s so comforting to not feel alone. It’s like you are speaking what I’ve been going through. I completely stress myself out about the stupidest things. It feels like black and white thinking is really prevalent with me right now and I hate how it just creeped back in. Just this morning I made a To Do list and I remembered WHY I stopped making them-it’s like how other people can be “healthy” and try diets or exercise plans-they can have To Do lists too. ME=obsessing and hating myself for not getting simple things done. Thank you SO much for sharing what you and your therapists worked on together. I always look for the quick get away. The problem I’m dealing with is that my hormones feel out of control-where I feel like I’m literally not able to manage my emotions. Have you experienced any of this with your recovery? Love your ability to giggle at things-really cheered me up today! My BMI at 18-19 probably 20 too is a nightmare situation too. I feel like a stressed little animal constantly-the whole fuck this I have no resources to deal 😀 Love it!

    • @megsyrecovery191
      @megsyrecovery191  6 лет назад +2

      Joy Cooper Yep, totally get you. The majority of us in recovery are not supposed to be BMI 18, 19, 20... weird isn’t it that you can hit supposedly healthy weights & still have ED thoughts & behaviours. Keep going, & don’t beat yourself up. You don’t need to be productive & achieving things to be a wonderful human 😘😘

  • @ellenseeley4765

    Thank you so much for this vlog; it resonates so much, on so many levels! I'm currently facing the likelihood that I, too, am not naturally BMI 19 or 20 and will have to keep going up from 20 to really heal. And using the "quick fixes" of restriction and exercise to deal with work stress is just making my job performance and injuries worse! You have such great insights. And isn't Tabitha great, too? Love her vlogs, writing, and podcast. Anyway, thanks and congrats on your great strides toward recovery!

      @megsyrecovery191  6 лет назад

      Ellen Seeley yes love love love her. She helps a lot with the issue of hitting targets or low BMIs & still not being fixed. I think most people recovering aren’t going to be well or free at those low BMIs to be honest. Some lucky buggers might, but most wont. I’m with you 😘

    My stress gets worse when I’ve not eaten, the smallest thing sets me off and sets the mood for hours. Like you the first thing was restrict 😢😮

  • @anthiabaker2695
    @anthiabaker2695 6 лет назад +1

    brilliant - thanks love. I skipped carbs the other day for this very reason. Restriction is my first port of call , and I'm now I'm pissed off I didn't get through the 'stress' and triggers of the moment. Back on track quickly and hopefully I have learnt from it. It didn't help and only took me away from my friends, being a mum, a worker, and took me into my own world of 'thigh obsession!! One day at a time and more aware today. Thanks Megs, as always. x

      @megsyrecovery191  6 лет назад

      Anthia Baker yeh can so relate to that. You’re right though, we can learn from it. Crazy how many times we can fall for its BS isn’t it. I guess with the stress it’s about learning new responses isn’t it, restriction is such an automatic go to... but you’re right it doesn’t really work

    Yes, yes, yes. I can so relate to this. I get Sooo angry and frustrated over the stupidest things.(spilling coffee, dropping things, etc) It's like the reaction is TOO big. It's similar to the guilt I feel over eating something. The guilt I feel is just So huge and It's not normal!

    I am a 44 years old woman from Spain. So, first of all, sorry for my English. Never wrote a comment in RUclips. But I really want to thank you. I had anorexia at 17, an I have ortorexia since then. Now I am trying to find freedom again. Eating out with my family and they are not waiting for the next complain or special order for myself. Now I am more in the moment. Sharing and loving. Never found anybody who explained to me these things as clear as you. It is a long way for me right now. I am at the start of the road. But I know for sure I do not want to feel isolation and restricted again. Thank you... Thank you so much.

    True numbers dont matter. You focus on being healthy. I have anorexia and BED. Stress is dangerous for ED. I got stressed today and I am back chucking my food out. I had a quite lunch planned and my day was rearranged for me,. I am weak with low vision at times. Being rushed before a meal is toxic.I feel out of control in my life, STICK TO SCHEDULE and say no. My electronics broke and this interfered with it, I am very annoyed had relapse, I cant even look at foods withou feeling sick I liked these crisps though. Thats a win. Some mistakenly thought by helping me with my flat helps but it disorientates me. I have a designated time where I clean stuff. I am focusing on things I can remove. Soccer is comfort to me. Love that game so much

    For some reason it’s really comforting to hear a British voice on a (quality) RUclips channel! I feel like I’m so used to American accents that I get startled by a British one (even though i live in England and everyone around me sounds like that - it’s just that online everyone’s a Yank I swear!) you’re so eloquent too which is amazing! what a pleasure surprised to see your new vlog since you said you're going to take a break. Double celebration today - the royal wedding and hearing from you! :) Just today, I revisited an old Vietnamese restaurant and realized they've update their menu and it doesn't offer the vegetarian dish I normally would order. I was so frustrated and hated myself for being so stressed out about choosing something different and when I did, I didn't like the option. Mom didn't help me as she was blaming me for being 'difficult'. She doesn't understand my conditions, so I feel so lonely on my journey...I'm longing for the day when I don't stressed when I need to eat something different when choices are limited.

      Kim Lau it helps me to remind myself food doesn’t have to be perfect, & when you’re eating enough & giving your body what it needs it won’t have this freak out over every little thing being wrong because it’ll have enough coming in regularly & each individual meal won’t be as important. Keep going 😘

    im the exact same way and part of my recovery goals is to be able handle stuff like this like for me even getting the bus to work can become stressful if the bus is full and doesnt stop and then i gotta wait for the next one which is only like 4 mins away like it flips me out and puts eating awry like its got no relation to it and im never late anyway cos i get to work too early anyway ... its bizarre! cos its not even got anything to do with food!

    Oh my goodness! This sounds crazy but I didn’t even realize that I do this very thing until I watched this! I get stressed and angry and don’t want to eat! I immediately start feeling fat and like a total loser! My husband always says, “what does fat feel like? Fat is not a feeling.” My face even can ‘feel’ fat when just a half hour ago it didn’t! It’s crazy! Thanks for helping me see that I do this and that I need to find other ways of coping!

      Ujué Fresán I have forced myself to spend money sometimes, which is uncomfortable but you kind of need to force it a bit at first. I also try to think what will I look back on my life & be pleased for? Will I be glad to have saved all my money up or will I be gutted if missed out on life. Also what do you respect in other people? Do you think hoarding & saving money is an attractive quality & one that you value? Those things help me 😘
