You show so much compassion, speak with so much integrity and genuinely cannot thank you enough for your commitment for the missing and the deceased. I've always said be the voice to those who do not have one, or cannot speak and you truly do. As for Alex, I hope for his families sake there will be answers and he will be found. Just going to say that the running off could be less sinister than it seems - I’ve unfortunately been blackout drunk where I was running off from my friends and there was literally no other reason than that I had way too much to drink and was confused. I’ve stopped drinking excessively now that I’m older and wiser - the amount of times I could’ve ended up dead in a ditch is pretty scary. I’ve also left belongings at a bar only for my friends to have picked them up for me. So it’s not impossible that it’s just an awful accident, but something still feels off

  • @hannakinn

This sounds terrible but as the weather warms up people in that area should be on the lookout for vultures circling over areas where he could've gone missing in woods. Vultures can smell decomp and generally circle prior to landing. I never ever see anyone mentioning this. I remember my grandfather telling me that watching for vultures above the farm could help locate missing livestock if it was missing and had passed away.

Thinking about it, if my friend ran off away from me towards Walmart when he was drunk, I’d probably assume he was going to go buy something or thought he’d try to buy more alcohol. But that wouldn’t explain him running away like that, to the point that his friend ran after and fell down trying to follow him. Unless he’s been told not to discuss too many details publicly bc it’s an active investigation, one would think he’d give more detail about the conversation moments before his friend ran away from him and went missing, but he could’ve been pretty drunk himself. As a girl I can’t imagine splitting up with another female friend like that and not freaking out at where they ran off to.

Alex Enslen’s death has been ruled an accidental drowning. I’ll bet he walked out on a snow covered frozen pond and fell through.
Pretty similar to the guy that walked out on Lake Michigan in Chicago and did not realize he was out on the lake. A helicopter flew over and told him to get on his back spread eagle to disperse his weight until they could get to him and rescue him.

i live in colerain township, cincinnati which is 25 mins from where he went missing & my cousin is a really close friend of his. this really hits home i think about him every single day... to think that they may have (probably) found him in the smaller pond at the apts next to his yesterday.. it breaks my heart. he was a regular at that bar as it was so close to his apartment.. they didnt ID him and if they did it was once in a blue moon.. he also was known to have a couple thousand in cash just chilling at the apartment so it wasnt an issue to bring a just some cash out & leave his phone & wallet at home so he didn't lose it as he had already been drinking before they went out. she said that they started arguing at the bar bc his friend was trying to pick up a girl & alex wasnt really down with it... there was already snow on the ground & we were all super worried bc of the ice storm coming as you mentioned.. also explains why he was just now recovered. the weather just broke. the accident theory seems like it might be the most logical one.. but another weird/crazy thing is he is the THIRD male found in water within maybe 10 miles or less of him. two were in ponds, one of which was ruled a accidental drowning. the first was amother male fisherman found in water on muhlhauser road which was also ruled an accidental drowning... all in the last 2 months. idk... honestly. i just dont know what's going on around there. thank you so much for playing his song at the end. he was truly an amazing soul. may he rest in paradise 💕
edited: i looked up the statistics
3,960 fatal unintentional drownings, including boating-related drowning-that is an average of 11 drowning deaths per day.
8,080 nonfatal drownings-that is an average of 22 nonfatal drownings per day.
Nearly 80% of people who die from drowning are male. Many factors might contribute to higher rates of drowning among males, including increased exposure to water, risk-taking behaviors, and alcohol use.
so maybe it's not that weird or crazy but still something doesn't seem right... i do not think his room mate is involved at all. they have been best friends since 3 years old. imagine your drunk friend is being just a little aggravating. i'm sure they were bickering & he wrong things were being said with alcohol being involved doesn't help the situation. to me, it seems he was trying to maybe calm him down & help him. he maybe didn't go to the extent i would for my best friend but he could've just thought he needed to walk for a minute alone to clear his head & chasing him would only rile him up. about 30 45 mins later his friend & alex girlfriend went driving searching for him but couldn't find him. i think he walked to white castles & then maybe the pick up lobby was closed so he walked home, took a shortcut (it was really cold & windy that night) didn't see the pond or maybe he stopped to look at it & got too close? getting white castles sliders when the bars close is a "drunken tradition" in cincinnati bc they are open 24/7 and the only time we eat it is when we get the munchies late at night nothing else is open. we will have more answers soon. there are no updates yet. they are being extra thorough as ths is such a sensitive case...

Hey John, excellent video as always. I'd like to share one thought if I may. I live in the UK but despite that I have been a huge Chiefs fan since 1993. I was watching the game in the middle of the night over here and I found our second half performance (after watching it about 6 times on NFL game pass) completely inexplicable. Even all alone I was frustrated and bitterly disappointed. It was like my team forgot how to play football at half time. Emotions were running very high that night in terms of a football context. I know this is Ohio so I'm guessing these guys are Bengals fans. Maybe just maybe, somebody said something about the game that ended up being the catalyst for all that ensued.

I just wanted to say, young men don't need "logical" reasons to do anything after they've been drinking. This kind of thing, like one of us running away out of the blue, occurred quite often when I was young and drinking. And of course, they'd turn up and no one would think anything of it. It only seems strange and meaningful because he went missing, and in all likelihood, the two things, running off and going missing, are not connected (in a directly proximate sense). Some people can't help but see meaning in every event leading up to a tragedy. And friends are viewed suspiciously because they happen to be the last point of contact but this is how it is with young people, especially when they drink: They hang out with their friends.
As for the phone and wallet, why would a culprit return those items to the home of the target, when they could simply dispose of them secretly? And, wasn't he already alone when last caught on security camera? Are we meant to believe the friend later found him and *then* did something nefarious? It makes no sense.
Typically, when a person *is* responsible for a friend's disappearance, they can't keep the secret very long, because they're not hardened criminals who can withstand to police interrogations, and they don't do media interviews.

    • @indicolite3355

Hmmm... John, something is not right here. I'm not done diving into it yet but this is what I've learned: The game got over aprx. 6:20, it was a 13 minute walk from his apartment to the Tavern. The reviews of the tavern stated it's a small, very friendly, great place to meet friends, great bartenders... (so my point, he probably didn't run into anyone looking to start trouble), maybe the friend ran out of money and was trying to get more drinks without paying? IDK just wondering why he was living with Alex. From the bar to Walmart it's an 8 minute walk, but that Walmart closes at 11:00 p. m., way before, allegedly, they left the bar. So he didn't go to Walmart. I'm gonna keep digging. Thank you and Christy as always!💕❤️🙏

No he doesn't. it was unfortunately a terrible accident. He was extremely intoxicated and it was dark. It was january and very cold. It doesnt take long for hypothermia to set in. Just a thought that popped into my head. Could he, after suddenly going out in the cold, have needed to relieve himself? So he runs across the road and goes for a pee? The friend is drunk and falls over, but then uses this as the last time he sees him, knowing it's on CCTV?
Then something happens at home, explaining the wallet and phone.
It may be a stretch but it's the one thing that would explain him suddenly darting behind some businesses with trees at the back

Ah!! We need to look at the roommate very very closely. Who goes out without their phone and wallet to a bar?!!
Also seems strange that his roommate doesn’t know why “they” were kicked out. That would be the first question he should’ve asked Alex, right?!🤷🏽‍♀️

Yeah, it doesn't look great for the roommate. However, in trying to keep an open mind about it though, I'm still not without doubt that the roommate was involved. _If_ you're covering for your friend's tab at a bar, and _if_ the friend does something such that he's asked or told to leave the establishment, then the establishment may insist on cutting you off to cut him off given he is effectively under your wing, as it were.

So, the friend is not an actual roommate, but a childhood friend staying with him for a while? Maybe they were tiffing over something from their past and it got a bit heated or friend refusing to pay some rent. You would think there would be video of him using his phone or seeing how he paid at the bar (pulling out his wallet, cc in pocket etc) to know if he had his phone or wallet there or not. They see the vape so this info may be known to police. That info would clear up a lot of questions! The friend definitely seems suspicious but even if he did something to him, where would he be??? I hope he is found soon and his family gets answers!

I think they need to work hard to establish whether he made it home before going missing or not. Working at a club, I can say half of the guys I talk to every night don’t have their wallets on them, because they were afraid they’d spend a lot of money while intoxicated and purposely left it home. The phone being left at home is weird, though. Almost no one from the age of 15-50 goes out without their phone nowadays, and it can turn a night out into a real pain in the butt if you do happen to forget your phone. It makes me wonder if he made it home and before the roommate did, put his phone and wallet down, and an argument ensued after the roommate arrived home. I’m sure investigators are looking into that possibility or already did.
He was clearly pretty intoxicated that night, and if he was vaping THC instead of tobacco, he would be LIT. Mixing concentrates like oils and shatter with alcohol can get one REALLY intoxicated without realizing it, because it is so much more concentrated than flower. It can also make you act a lot more silly and belligerent than you would just being normally drunk or stoned. I couldn’t help but giggle a little bit at the one photo of him sitting at the bar smiling because he looked like he was feeling pretty good and I’ve been there.
Dayton seems like it would be a relatively safe area, but it (and Cincinnati) really aren’t the greatest. There’s pretty serious problems with opiates up there, and violence isn’t uncommon in an area where bars and businesses are. My mother’s side of the family is from there, and her cousin got killed outside of a bar in Dayton trying to break up a fight. It wouldn’t shock me if the poor guy was a little too drunk, thought he was going to take a shortcut back home, walked behind these businesses and ran into some creep. Or more than one.

One of the first videos of yours I watched involved a missing roommate. Some people in the comments actually thought the roommate had done something but this missing woman was actually quite psychotic in phone calls to police. She left and went to the woods out back and fell in the water or something, if I'm not mistaken. I think that even if Alex isn't mentally unwell, he was certainly using substances. Alcohol can be unpredictable sometimes. My brother has a problem with it and one time he left his friends behind during a football game in which he also became extremely intoxicated. Luckily, they found him the next morning asleep on the street. It was not a good area of L.A., he was so lucky!!! Anyway, who is to say that Alex wasn't vaping earwax, a highly potent form of marijuana, which contains 75% THC? My nephew vapes "ear wax" and I have read these synthetic marijuana or potent marijuana is very dangerous. While Alex is 31 and therefore doesn't have a developing brain like my young nephew, that mj alone can cause paranoia. I don't think it's fair to blame the roommate automatically. When law enforcement claims to have searched someplace, while telling the truth, it doesn't mean they could have possibly searched every square inch. I've read about remains being found in places that were "searched" and the victim's parents feeling guilty because they were literally feet away from their loved one but didn't see the remains. It could have been under snow and not visible. I think it's too soon to jump to conclusions. I'm bipolar and have run away from people many times because of the way my mind and emotions are making me feel. I am upset at them or just want to make them come after me. He could have been feeling in a similar fashion because of drug use.

    • @tinasweeney4392
      @tinasweeney4392 2 года назад +8

I just read that Alex got beligerent at the bar and was asked to leave. The roommate is key: he stated that "I thought he'd call, and we'd go pick him up, or he was going to a friend's place." Both of those statements don't make sense, how could he call if he left his phone and wallet at the apartment? And why would he decide to go to a friend's place so early on a Monday morning (most people have to get up early for work and wouldn't appreciate company at that hour). The police need a search warrant for that apartment ASAP. Roommate should have called police to report him missing but didn't. I don't believe Alex would have left his phone or wallet at home. Most of my friends are males, and I cannot think of one of them that would leave their wallet's at home, some do leave their phones at home but that's only if they're going a short distance. Alex came home that night I think. The roommate knows something.

Such a strange case. If we take the friend's tale at face value, there doesn't seem to be foul play involved. If the two had had a confrontation at the tavern, would they have left together at 1am?
His behaviour after they leave the pub, when they walk together, then he starts running away, then goes back to walking by himself, hands in pockets, is strange and difficult to interpret. I'm at a loss, I have to be honest. It could be explained by him being drunk, I guess... And if he was drunk, any kind of accident could unfortunately have happened by the rail tracks or by the water ponds, but then again they've been searched already.
A really sadly mysterious missing person case. I feel for his family who must be mystified by Alex's disappearance. Prayers and thoughts to them. I hope Alex is found soon, whatever might have happened.

Very near West Chester sits the city of Hamilton Ohio. Back in the day they officially changed the name Hamilton to have an explanation after its name on all official business. I guess to promote itself. The area has a lot of poor people and a bad reputation for crime. Also nearby is the city of Middletown which is a more rural area. About 30 miles south is the city of Cincinnati Ohio with lots of little townships in between. Cincinnati borders Kentucky with only a 1/2 mile of the river separating them. Rest in peace, Alex.
Now that he has been found, I'm wondering how they determined it was accidental. I don't see anything that -for me - suggests even conflict with the roommate, but I know some people found it suspicious & I don't know how they can tell whether he walked into the lake /ice or someone pushed him. And the discovery doesn't explain the phone & wallet.
As for "we" being kicked out, I imagine the police have spoken to staff. "We" can just mean "me" when you're with someone close, someone you know is going to leave when you are asked to go.
I remember a very good male friend of mine who was going through a break up. We went to a bar. He'd never been in the
area before, but after a few too many drinks, he just bolted.
He was running through people's yards, climbing over rockeries & jumping fencing. When I finally found him he said he just needed to run.
The next day I tried to talk to him but he had no memory at all. Drunk people do weird things sometimes.
It may have had nothing to do with the roommate. And, if it did, I have a rare disagreement with John. I don't feel sure that someone is going to take evasive maneuvers while drunk. I don't know that most sober people would think to double back.
Finally, on hitchhiking. It seems unlikely he'd be picked up at that hour. However, it seems perfectly plausible that around an hour before bars close, within blocks of a bar he frequents, he could have run into someone who he knew.
If it's the only bar in the neighborhood, I'm sure all the regulars know each other and if I saw someone I knew out at night, I'd offer a lift.

When I was younger and clubbing with friends we would often go out as a group. However, at least one or more of the group would become unreasonable and we could not talk sense into them. Some would want to start fights. Some would try to get another patron to buy them drinks even if the professional bartender had cut them off. Some people of both genders do not handle alcohol well and will end up in trouble before the night it over. It is only by sheer luck or the intervention if guardian angels 👼🏾 who keep them safe when they are so under the influence. As a petite young woman there was only so much I could do to stop these individual friends from making bad choices while they were under the influence. It may seem irresponsible, but in most cases I ended up getting a cab home without them. Most of them are ok but yes they did make bad choices while under the influence. It’s sheer luck that they did not end up like this young man.

Watching his roommate talk tells me he's lying. They say when you look towards your right when talking it could mean your lying. His friend doesn't even seem worried.

That's more of a myth now. Multiple body language experts don't go by that anymore.
