    I'm glad he did some research on the companies. Fiio is one of the original ChiFi audiophile manufacturer and Astell and Kern was originally Iriver who may be the first MP3 manufacturer ever and are from S. Korea. The pedigree and history of Fiio and Astell and Kern is very legitimate and for people that have been in this hobby for a long time like myself respect both of them.

    John, I recently listened to one of your podcasts for the first time and loved it. I’ve loved David Morley’s work ever since I started buying those early Apollo/R&S records around 92/93. The album David mentioned that you weren’t familiar with, Swarm Of Drones, is a release on the Carpe Sonum label. I think you would dig many of their releases. They are the label that was started as a kind of tribute to Pete Namlook after his death. Their first release was a giant box set with many exclusive tracks from artists I know you like. Let me know if you want some of my picks from the label.

    I have owned several Fiio products over the years, and they have all been very high quality. They seem in general to be fast followers, using existing tech in products with a unique twist. Recently, they seem to have become more innovative and have entered many new markets.
    Perhaps I missed it, but I was waiting to hear the sound comparison between the 32 and 350 headphones, even though they are not otherwise identical. Perhaps an update in a future segment.
    Also, I am intrigued by products that allow for swappable upgrades. It seems as though a company that bought into this completely could establish a form factor and then sell upgradable components that would go up the fidelity and price scale. It would also help increase brand loyalty while decreasing electronic waste in today’s disposable world.
    Enjoyed the video thoroughly and look forward to future episodes.

    I have enjoyed all of your videos. I have the Denon DCD 2560 CD player. I am considering an external dac like the Ifi to see if we can get better sound quality. I would say that I am a man that has enjoyed cds more then my albums. After careful listening to albums vs cds I think the cost/value/ sound quality ratio is better with CD players. It seems, to get a better sound from my albums, I need to either get a better cartridge ( mine is the Stanton 681 ee) and or a better phono stage ( mine is the Marantz 2250B receiver). All of that said I am trying to decide on an external dac that might provide better sound quality then the 2560, which is very good. The device has 4 AD182 N-D chips at 20 bit with THD of .0018%. Any ideas to put my decision to or not to upgrade? Thanks Dave

    • @DarkoAudio
      @DarkoAudio  10 месяцев назад +2

      Almost every Android phone does LDAC. Unfortunately, whilst LDAC will *play* a hi-res file, it will throw away data in doing so. It's not lossless. When manufacturers slap the hi-res audio logo on their headphones or DAC box, they cheefully ignore this detail. In my book, LDAC is not hi-res capable; it's not even lossless with CD quality. Check out Sony's website explainer for more info. Happy listening!

    The AGD GaNTube is perhaps a bit of a gimmick in my view. BUT class D amp sound quality has improved by leaps and bounds in recent years. And when implemented with the new(ish), faster than silicon, gallium nitride MOSFETS, look likely to replace not only tube power amps and class A solid state, but also class A/B. In other words completely revolutionise all hifi amps including the high end. Perhaps by the end of this decade. I’m really surprised there is not more discussion of this important development.

    I honestly don't understand why home DACs use Bluetooth and not WiFi, I think 90+% of people with a desktop dac will have WiFi and all phones have it! Is it because Google have some rights on streaming over WiFi (chromecast)? As far as I remember Bluetooth was introduced because WiFi uses too much battery but that's not a valid point anymore , the DAC is plugged into power and phone is using WiFi anyway all the time and in theory it should not stay connected all time, it could just send the location of the files to play, online stream, local one...

Putting so much effort into making it lossless is a waste of time and resources. It's fine for exercising or in car listening when you're not expecting much out of the shitty listening environment.

I'm glad you mentioned the headphone jack on the Sony because I was considering it and nowhere is it really say how powerful it is.

    I don't think this format works. It forces me to sit and watch for an hour and simply looking at 2 faces for an hour is boring. I'd rather listen to this as a podcast so I can walk around and do some other things while listening (eating lunch, raking leaves, etc.). I'll probably fire up RUclips on my iPhone and listen but not look at the screen. However, you are to be commended for trying to change things up. Perhaps you could do it in a more "newsy" format and keep the length down to about 15 minutes. For reference, I'm a patron and this is the first video of yours I haven't watched all the way through.

      Hi Paul. The audio version of this has just gone live -- now you can rake leaves.
