Well, that guy got rekt hard and the corvette went on like nothing happened. Looked like a "driver" moment tbh when the Corvette turned in and the F1 didn't turn in as well.
@@Super_GT if you had to use a basic gamepad again, would you use the analog stick or the motion controls instead? And what settings would you always recommend using for any racing situation ? ( like b4 a race)
Also, stop trying to overtake in every corner. Find overtaking spots on the circuits that will make you lose least amount of time. Some examples: - Turn 1 at Red Bull Ring is not a good place to make a move because after it there is a long straight with hard braking zone. Instead try to overtake in the turns 3 and 4 (turn 4 leads to twisty section where it is easier to defend) - Good overtaking spots at Interlagos are turns 1 and 4, attempting overtakes in the twisty section will lose your time There are other examples, write them in the comments if you want.
Yes, I really agree with this. Too many drivers overtake at the soonest opportunity when it isn't the best place to pass. You gotta weigh up the risk but also how much time you will lose from the pass. Often it's better to wait behind and overtake when you lose less time.
i've purchased GT sports since 1st launch.. until today also havent get a wheel yet.. T.T qualifying time always lose to top 10 player about 4 to 6 sec.. that's my limit.. because controller cannot maintain the corner angle, controller got 1 setting is like wheel, but i can't manage all with a pair of my hand T.T Throttle, brake, turn, etc.. I will get a wheel ( few more years? T.T)
@@monkeyming3496 my TT time trial went from around 5 seconds off on a controller to 1-2 seconds off on a wheel. But on Sport Mode for online races im like 3-4 seconds off as I dont practise with the BoP rules that they give you. But recently I have started doing that
@@vdygdb and Ming Ming, if you can be 3 seconds behind on a control you will be 1/2 to 1 second a lap behind on a decent wheel. Thrustmaster TGT the only way to go, because its the best for the game. But using another thrustmaster is good for entry level wheels for a 1st wheel
Small tip from me - if you're racing in Race C or the FIA races, then set up a private lobby and replicate the settings. Then run laps with the tyre and fuel degradation and get a better understanding of what the car will do as a race goes on. This will give you a much better idea of what to expect come race time and improve your results.
Here are some my tips that others gave me! Trail braking/ coasting- helps with keeping momentum and speed, no every turn you need to slam on the brakes. I think using the best car tip is cliche. I prefer to use cars that are best suited to your liking. Whether you're in a open lobby in sport mode use the cars your familiar with. Drive YOUR driving line. I've witnessed alot people follow other racers into grass or dirt. Or simply just drive off the track trying to follow another racers driver line.. we've all done it but I've learned if I just race my race and drive my line and not worry what the racer in front of me is doing most of time I wont crash. And last but not least! Know how and when to overtake!!!!!!!!!! Dont over take someone midway through the chicane of death on Seaside... dont lunge at someone when theres no opening on turn one on monza... if your faster then someone just wait to over take on a ideal part of the track.. Oh I forgot...if you run the McLaren F1 gr3.. if you cant keep your car from going side ways in a turn go race another car please....for the love of God your ruining the race for everyone else.
One tip that has helped me over all is if you are ahead of someone by a couple of seconds and they catch up with you, just let them by. They are obviously faster than you and battling will slow you down or spin you out.
You don’t need to do one on Forza cause it’s quite simple: GT Sport - Move out of the way to make your opponent avoid your slip stream. Forza - move out of the way to make your opponent avoid dive bombing you. GT Sport - Use the track limits to reduce steering angle and carry more speed into corners. Forza - Use track limits to avoid being side swiped or punted.
how to take a corner: GT Sport: slow down, turn, then accelerate out the corner Forza: dive bomb into the corner and ride the wall around then get flung out of existence.
I've witnessed strategies for professional GT sport racers and I once watched their replays. This is quite clever though They adjust their gear ratios so that their first gears are long. This gives them better smoothness in power control as they enter low speed turns. This smoothness reduces tyre wear which means that they will have more grip than the rest as the race continues. It's no longer about how fast you approach a turn, as long as you turn in smoothly and release the wheel in the same manner, then there's no trouble
Great video, thanks for the tips! Just expanding on a couple of things you talked about: Partial throttle mid corner: Some cars are almost undrivable without partial throttle mid corner. Two examples are the Gr3 458 Italia and Hurucan. These two cars have a very pointy front end, mid/rear engine and are both naturally aspirated. This means that when you lift off the throttle they have a lot of engine breaking and when you turn in, the car rotates very quickly. This can cause the car to oversteer known as “lift off oversteer” even when you feel like you’re not going very quickly (sometimes I feel like the tyre physics is a bit whack, like driving on ice). If you use partial throttle in these cars, just enough so that you’re not engine braking, it’s much easier to turn the car in slow/medium speed corners without it snap oversteering. At higher speeds it’s not so bad because of increased downforce. Conversely there are some cars that have a very strong diff lock under acceleration which can cause understeer so partial throttle during the corner can cause you to drift wide but you can still balance throttle application to get you through a corner without slowing down and without understeering. Braking: Its common for people to brake too much into a corner. It’s a fine balance but if you carry more speed with Gr1-4 cars you have more downforce. The trick is to make sure that you release/reduce brake application before turning in so you don’t overwhelm the front tyres and make the car understeer, make sure you turn in at the correct spot and apply just enough throttle to stop the car slowing or lift off oversteering. I think that understanding the mechanics of the cars helps a lot with understanding how to make the most of it. The key things to understand would be tyres and not overwhelming them with turning and braking at the same time, limited slip differentials and how they lock up when a torque is applied to them (this can be torque from acceleration or engine breaking) and weight balance of a car such as loading up the front tyres progressively as you turn in or the rear tyres as you exit and how the weight on the tyres changes as you go over crests, through dips, around banked corners etc. Cars are very interesting, technologically advanced machines and their designs vary greatly so having a good understanding of what makes each car unique will help you to get the most out of them. GT Sport has some very realistic vehicle mechanics built in which I think is very cool.
For your number... 5. Qualify w/ ghost on. Get used to driving as close to it as you can. Helps when racing close w/ other cars. 7. Watch replay of your practice & use pause to find good breaking markers if the usual ones don't work. Mult markers for the same situation R good if another car is blocking your sight of UR ideal marker. 8. Experiment in practice to find the limits in each corner. Some tracks have harsher track limits & sometimes only at certain corners (ie Le Mans, Tokyo Expressway) 9. Slip streaming will increase your speed requiring U to break a tad earlier or change your line. It takes practice to mod your line w/o loosing lots of time or running off track. 10/11/16. Some high powered cars really benefit by waiting for full throttle untill the car is almost totally streight. Can sacrifice speed but help lots in tire life & faster over the race. Helps to do more of a late apex line. 15. If a car is more than 0.5 sec behind it's near impossible for them to make an immediate clean pass (watch out for the slipstream) 17. Back off the throttle / short shift while in slipstream.
Ghost is a pain because in qualli you need a clear track to see everything so if your even a bit behind it it blocks your view. If you want to practice the racing aspect, race.
Great tips! I will just say that for any total beginner, going for gold on all the driving school challenges will VASTLY improve your game. I went from 8:00 on the nordschleife in a gr.3 corvette c7 to a 6:45 after going through those lessons. Still need a ton of work, but the improvement is nice!
*If you have any tips you want to add, reply and we could make this a 'superlist' of tips* Additional Top Tips (From a Forza player on GT Sport): 1.Instead of coasting around corners, make sure that you are applying half throttle instead. The cars don't rotate the same way that they do on Forza and so there is a massive advantage to be gained through a more constant throttle application than i was used to. 2.Another thing i see in the comments is people claiming that they listen to music whilst they drive: if i listen to music, i genuinely lose about half a second a lap just because my concentration is reduced(!) 3.Also, i spend more time qualifying than i do actually racing - if i turn up to a race without practice, my results are nowhere near as good as i find myself guessing as to what i need to do in order to go quickly 4.When watching replays, pay special attention to the gears that top players use - usually i find that top guys are using one gear higher/lower than i use myself, finding these mistakes usually make larger mistakes more clear and it is easier to therefore improve your pace. 5.If you are nervous when under pressure, you haven't practiced enough ;)
LZR Racerz thanks for the reminder, I need to turn the music off. Forza does it automatically, even in horizon the music gets quiet when doing any of the challenges
@@RavenwestR1 I think it's normal to be nervous in FIA Quali as it is pretty much make or break for the race. Key is to get a banker lap in that you know you can do 99/100 times, might be a second of your ultimate pace but then you can go for it on the 2nd run with new tyres and low fuel.
I totally agree with all your points but the first. Some corners actually need coasting, like Curva Grande in the chicane-less version of Monza or the Flugplatz corner in Nurburgring. If you go half throttle you go wide with certain cars (gr.3 for instance). It’s pretty much a corner-dependent factor.
1:42 I've actually stopped using those in favor of the floating markers because running into cones tossed into the race line by people that don't see them (eg. not running them and therefore don't exist for them) can have rather disastrous results on your race.
I really only have two things to add to your list. Use all the track. The fastest way through corners is in the straightest possible line. This kind of goes hand in hand with your track limits point. Always look ahead to the next corner. Your hands go where your are looking. Try not to stare at the car ahead as you will more than likely follow their line, and sometimes off the track
I haven't played gran Turismo in years and its really cool to see that all the driving techniques I use in real life racing coming into fruition in a game. ths is sick
I am about as beginner as you can get, to this game, going into my second week. But, having been a professional OTR driver for several years I have a few things that I do. Especially when learning courses. Fuel and tire conservation in long corners under power. If you are holding it in 3rd and are half way or higher up on the tach, shift to 4th. Your torque drops reducing tire wear and chance of spin out, and your rpms drop so you use less fuel. Myself I shoot for anything above 1/3 tach, because I can feel out the corners and see if I can hold it at a higher rate of speed. You have to learn the limits of every car you intend to drive. One thing I have noticed about the cone markers help. If you are not using racing tires, they are way off. You need to brake a significant distance further back down the track to be able to get down to proper speed of the corner.
Great vid Steve, as always! There is one point I’d like to add : Brake balance. As braking is one of the most important tasks to learn in a racing game, GTS implements a really nice feature that allows you to choose which wheels brake the most during braking zones. Learn how to use that and you will quickly see your lap times improve! Kie and David always point out how they balance their braking, and it helps a lot, you should def check them out!
Getting a wheel should be Nr. 1, because with the wheel you learn to handel the car so much more precisely than with a controller. It's a bit expensive but it is worth it.
Thanks GT, I’m just really getting into Gran Turismo now after it sitting unused for months. Many thanks for all the tips and your other content. Games have come a long way since Outrun on the c64. ( yes I’m old...)
Biggest tip I would give to someone starting out is get out of your comfort zone. Often times, people starting out in the game try to drive really smooth, and are scared to try new lines. And while yes, driving smooth is good for consistency and all that, you really need to take risks and make daring line choices that you might have not tried before. I know when I was first starting out, and even a little still right now, I would watch some of the fastest qualifying lap replays of guys and see them taking these insane lines where there car is pretty much completely off the track aside from two tires to not get a penalty, and when I would go into qualifying to try these lines, I would end up chickening out. New players will often get scared of spinning out, and it keeps them in a fixed mindset of driving smooth, and is the biggest factor holding them back. There is no consequence to crashing while in qualifying; you have all the time in the world to run laps in qualifying, and if you do crash, you can just hit restart and continue as if nothing ever happened. I wish someone had told me this sooner, as it has been the biggest thing in my progression in GT7, and was the major thing that was holding me back in the lower DR ratings.
Respect! Best bundled info pack to GTS I've ever seen. Great tutorial. Greate Respect for yor Fairplay on the track against some Mario cart drivers also. Top!
never played GT Sport, but what I learned from a lot of rF2 and AC is: -steering. if you make more than one or two motions (depending on the car) with the wheel into a corner, you're just scrubbing your tires. don't saw the wheel, some shuffling is good for stabilizing the car but in general you want as little movement as the car will let you get away with. -brakes. This is where you'll find the most time in most cases. identify where you feel comfortable braking, and try braking just a little bit later, braking as hard as possible without locking up or activating abs. this will force you to get better at threshold braking, which is an absolute must to be competitive, and personally the reason I tend to prefer cars that dont rely on abs like GTEs as opposed to GT3s, because it's a lot easier to identify that threshold. -throttle. yeet it. -if you aren't willing to churn out 300 laps a day you will always be suck. what do you have a life or something? git gud scrub. -no but really, hotlap more. before any big league race I start practicing a month beforehand because I know if I haven't done at least 100 laps in that timespan I have absolutely no chance at the top 10. No idea how any of those apply to GTS but yea take what sounds like it applies. Last point probably applies in a scaled down sense.
Thank you so much. I switched to a wheel 2 months ago, and I haven't been able to keep up. Everything is going wrong, and I have not been able to figure out what I am doing wrong. I watched this video, and you totally solved it for me. I was not completely straightening out my wheel before smashing the gas. It was something I always did on the controller, but for some reason overlooked it on the wheel. My racing instantly got better. It is something so simple, yet I would not have thought of it without you. Keep up the great videos, love the channel. Again thank you, you've brought the enjoyment back to the game for me.
As a father of two with too little free-time, I really just appreciate your approach to the game, and your descriptions of your action. I hope I'll be able to incorporate some of your tips, even if I won't be able to take the game as seriously as I would have wished. Thanks.
All of these tips I learned playing F1 since the PS2 days. I’ve learnt how to transfer all of skills and experience to Gran Turismo Sport. It’s very similar but things will be slightly different because they’re different games. But the principals are still the same.
when you finally qualify in a good place. brake later into turn one. because you go way slower than you normally do. it sounds obvious but you see a lot of people in the lower lobbys brake at the cones. this way you get punted more than not because the cars behind dont expect you to brake there. great video by the way, keep up the good work.
Sorry another comment here concerning learning the tracks without cone markers. If you go through your main screen game play options you will see a section under campaign called circuit experience. This area will walk you through each section of the track in a timed event. This will then be put together in a single lap timed event. The real important part of doing this is, when you load the section you are working on, in the top right of the screen there is a video with commentary. Only gripe I have with the video is that it is only done in kmh. But, the commentator will point out track details on where to get your general brake points. Some instances I have seen are marker boards, barrier breaks, official booths, etc. The commentator will also give you a broad comment about braking strength, lifting off accelerator, feathering brakes, etc.
yeah I got the G29 for christmas and it was honestly like I was getting a new version of gt sport with it. It's so much nicer than using a clumsy controller
Just got mine a couple days ago. Still learning, about 1sec behind my personal bests, but I am more competitive inside races. The wheel and pedals eliminate the over exaggerated adjustments you make with a controller which inherently makes you faster right away. My problem now is learning how to drive with two feet. I've probably driven over 2 million miles in over 20 different vehicles through my life and never used anything but my right foot unless I was using a clutch.
@@bobmalarkey4621 when one foot is pressing on a pedal, the other is off its own pedal. With practice you will see how quickly you can go from full brake to back on the power by not needing to transition between pedals
@@rottdad775 Not true. As explained in the video as well; While braking, some (my experience :almost all) corners your exit will improve while keeping your foot on throttle like halfway/partial. Your rpm will not drop below a certain dead zone and you have a better exit speed and faster recovery from corners
I think all these points are solid and things I hadn’t considered, however, 2 points I think are critical. 1. Keep your eyes at the furthest point on the track at all times, you will almost automatically take the best line when you’re following the furthest point 2. Driving in the bumper cam gives me (hopefully you too) the most feedback to the cars movements. Thanks Super GT, enjoying your videos and commentary always 👍 I played this game for many years, but you take things to another level.
Really good video Super GT. All good points! My two cents on learning a track. Use all the learning aids to get an idea of where braking, turn in and apex points are. Then start to find real points on the track that match up closely and start to remove the learning aids. Pay attention to track surfaces, some parts of the track just have more grip. Watch for track cambers. Slight positive camber can increase corner speed and may not be on the suggested racing line. Negative cambers while send you wide. Turn 2 at Panorama is good example. Test the curbs. See how the car reacts. Some curbs can reduce cornering angle, some can help rotate the car and other will send you flying off to the Realm. Concentrate on one thing at a time and watch the time delta, if its a blue up arrow it means that what you just did is an improvement, try to remember what you did or check the replay. To properly master, or at least be competent, at a car/track combo may take hundreds of laps. You should always have a specific goal in mind. Don't just run laps and hope for the best. Be specific, concentrate on one thing at a time, master it and move on the next thing. As for driving techniques and race kraft, there are hundreds of videos on youtube, some are done by professional race drives and others by very good gamers.
Trail braking is possibly the most important thing to learn in GT Sport. I frequently race against a couple of friends i know from karting - so they know racing lines, throttle control etc. But i can gain several tenths a corner through proper braking technique, which allows me to close in and carry greater mid-corner speed. Conversely, i lose out most of my time to aliens in the braking zones. Their braking technique is just that touch better than mine, which adds up to about 0,5-1 second a lap.
Is trail braking stomp on the brakes & progressively lessen the brake pressure as you enter the corner? or is it progressively braking harder as you enter the corner.
This video somehow reminded me that GT 2 was my first racing game ever, I loved it. Then I went for arcade games after that (nfsmw ftw) and when I found your channel it totally reinvigorated my racer ego and thirst for clean and fast races with proper tuning etc. Your videos also saved me from EA's shitty games they release nowadays... Sadly GT Sport is PS4 only -_- so I'm stuck with FH4 and FM7.
Key point which I mentioned countless times to you and it was how you became faster...throttle modulation. The wheel, specifically the pedals, allowed you more leverage than your thumb would (not could). It's rare for a person to be able to replicate that degree of demonstrativeness on a thumb stick. I happened to be one of them. The top guys DO NOT strictly half-throttle as in your number 10 example. Controlling the whole range is vital, from 0-100%. Ranges below 25 allow the car (except FF drivetrain) to steer more than it otherwise would, highly beneficial in hugging apexes in hairpins etc. 50 & above, you covered that part. Without this meticulous utilisation, one will never and I can't stress enough, NEVER be as fast as the fastest. If that's the ultimate goal, best learn that shit, proper! Think Michael Schumacher's driving style, keep that minimum speed up throughout the corners, don't worry about fast entry/fast exit. Jackie Stewart; "minimize the time spent between braking and accelerating". Respect to these 2 Legends.
I just watched this earlier today, really really helpful. Been playing for about two weeks now after reinstalling GT sport after years of abandonment. Won my first race this evening. I'm driver C rating. Upwards from here
Traction Control. Sometimes you need it, on a standing start in a powerful car for example or pulling off the grass after a crash. You can adjust to suit in game like you might do with fuel levels.
I think I might disagree with the use the best car point, though mostly for players that are a bit less experienced. I think it's a lot more important to use a car you're very familiar with and are comfortable driving, you'll make a lot less mistakes and will put in much more consistent lap times, which before like A+ and S rating that's usually more important that absolute raw speed.
Totally agree here. Stick with what you know, especially if your new. The fact is, with BOP on, no matter what car the fastest guy uses, he will be within a fraction second of his best time, which is going to be a lot faster than average guy me.
@@RussRobit there is always a fast car. At the beginning of the game gr.3 was all about trying tho handle the 612hp viper, then the RSR came in being the best on tires and fuel, now the F1 is just above everything else.
@@R4M_Tommy Of course there's always a fastest car. The point is, as a new driver, do you stand a better chance of a solid finish using a car you know, or using a car that is potentially faster but you know nothing about it?
Great video Super, as always. Another tip I can add is learn how to position your car defensively. When you think a car is close enough to try and overtake, think about how you can move to the inside of the track to cover, and how that might affect your corner exit etc.
The App "Racetrack Coach" is perfect for learning - even the fictional GT Sport tracks are in the app! Just watch onboards and take notes in your Racetrack Coach
I took a long break from this game but picked it back up this weekend. I won 5 daily races and I attribute that to running a lot of qualifying laps! The key is to be smooth and avoid mistakes.
Im pretty late on this having just got a PS4 literally yesterday, one: This game is pretty damn fun. Two: thanks for the tips man, would love to race with you sometime man. 🙋
My qualifing takes usaly half a day lol. I only start racing when i am as good as i can be. Also learn the breaking point from the first corner of a track when driving 80 kph from start finisch line. This is basicly a rolling start.
Yesterday I was getting kicked out of the races, with the text "you'll get kicked out with the next collision". The problem was, I got those messages while on the rolling start. Four races in a row. Downgraded from SR. A to SR. C in those four races
Oh god. I went from sr S to sr C / D and stuck in hell. I was a consistent a polite "99" driver, always with the best manners, then East Tokyo narrow walls roughed things up a bit and stuck me with A/B drivers. That descended even more. Now majority of my penalties are by way of mistakes from other c/d drivers despite my proper driving. Admittedly I earned some because I became revengeful and slapped some of them sideways through anger. I also got that red text "You'll get kicked out" line a few times, only mine came seconds before the very end of the race, ironically it was a race I came in first, too. I should add I did nothing wrong that race and it was the other drivers ramming me.
8:50 Brutality! Absolutely murdered! Jeez pal! 🤣 Also I’m glad we share the same annoyance with the track limits thing. It’s so frustrating because I want it to be more like the real world or just 2 wheels of 2 wheels on. Not all 4. But if you don’t your gonna get beating. Also this applies to F1 games to, smashing down the gears at fast as possible. I do it more like real life, but you can shave of plenty of time if you do it really fast. I hate that. But you gotta do it if you wanna be fast.
That's why I prefer Assetto Corsa shifting style, I wish that Polyphony would add it to the GT sport as well. In Assetto Corsa you just can not downshift to fast, the gearbox will not allow you to do so, like in real life.
This was the first super GT video I’ve watched when I was just getting into GT sport, came back for nostalgia reasons, I remember taking this advice and I got better at the game within a few weeks
Well, if you’re watching this video it’s because you’re trying to get better at the game. I started playing about 1 year ago thanks to super GT and I’ve learned a lot from him, but also I’ve learned a lot on my own and here are some tips. And this are most COMMON SENSE. 1) if you’re on a slip stream take that into consideration. Means you have less resistance thus your car will take longer than usual to brake. When I started I didn’t understand this so I’ll punt most of the guys on the braking zone and I didn’t understand why my car would brake quicker when I’m practice. 2) FOLLOW YOUR OWN LINE. When you approach a corner try to turn just as you do when in practice and this is something that even happens in real F1 and supercars races. If you concentrate too much on the guy in front if he goes wide and goes off the track most probably you will as well. And it happens really often in every racing sport. 3) ADJUST TO DIFFERENT SITUATIONS. When you practice enough you’ll know when to brake and when to turn for maximum speed thru corners and to use the entire track on your favor, BUT if you have someone who just launched into the inside of the turn BE AWRE you’re gonna have to go a bit slower then usual on that turn and take a wider line. Also if you’re defending into that corner you’re gonna have to brake significantly early so you don’t slide into the other car into the turn. It’s a common mistake some guys make and I take advantage by taking the outside and just letting them drive off the track or switch into the inside lane midturn because they took it too fast and missed the apex. And most important 4) KNOW WHEN TO HOLD BACK. If you’re in 2nd position and the guy in front is just as fast as you or faster. DONT start attacking halfway into the race. What I’d do is let him know I’m not trying to pass and believe it if he’s fast enough to be in 1st he’ll understand that you’re just trying to build a gap between you and the pack behind. So work with the guy on front and just try to stay close to him and let the rest of the pack stay behind. Those are just a few things i wanted to share of what I’ve learned in the short time I’ve racing in this game. One last tip, if you’re the guy on 1st and you know for a fact that the driver behind you is just faster then you THEN PLEASE do us all a favor and let him pass. But holding back ( in a dirty manner) a faster driver you’re just putting yourself in a disadvantage because you’ll be wasting time defending and being dirty thus inviting the rest of the pack into the party and at the end of the day you end up going off track and loosing many more positions. IF you’re from Brazil or Argentina please ignore that last tip. It doesn’t apply to you, many thanks and don’t reproduce.
Would you believe I actually retained my pole position and won a daily race yesterday with 9 Brazilians behind me.. 🤯 though it was back to normal the next race after.. for a second I thought ... never mind... 🤔
Iffi Lunau Hansen lol 😂. Look at that replay and I bet $100 the guys in 2nd and 3rd ( and probably 4th,5th,6th.) were battling each other the whole race. And not letting the other advance.
Hey dude! I just started playing GT sport like a month ago, I got it actually 4 years ago when I got my ps4 but I never payed too much attention to it until now that I didn't have anything else to play. I only played the original GT on the PS1 and loved it, and bow playing this one my muscle/brain memory showed off a bit. I'm quite enjoying it and I'm doing some daily races now after getting 100% gold in every challenge/experience/driving school's tests... currently sitting at DR C about 1/4 bar and SR S 🙃 and quite enjoying this game thinking why didn't I started earlier... this is a great video with loads of information. So far, I'm loving the GT community... they are all so far very friendly and helpful. I should be getting a wheel soon.. playing with the dualshock feels like running with an iron ball chained to your leg. Thanks for the vid mate! Hope to find you in a race one day.

AWESOME VIDEO! Thank you... I've raced cars most of my life and GT SPORT is very close to real life. I've only been Sim racing just over a year. I've had ups and downs. It is very important not to lose your temper when you get wrecked. I would have a lot higher DR if I hadn't retaliated. Create a secondary account to race the first couple days of the sport mode A, B, C RACES and to test the penalty system after updates or maintenance. The developers do make mistakes and GT SPORT is ever evolving. I've lost a ton of DR/SR after a development errors. Downloading ghosts from top 10 fastest drivers and practice. Gentle going into corners = fast exiting corners and it saves tires and fuel. Hard braking = bad fuel mileage. And find the drive layout that fits your driving style. Also PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. RUN RACES IN THE LOBBY AND GET TO KNOW YOUR CARS HABITS AND LEARN HOW TO ADJUST YOUR DRIVING TO DETERIORATING CONDITIONS. I race for Alpha Romeo which maybe the slowest bop gr3 car. But it compliments my driving style. I barely am ever the fastest. But I am able to finish top 5 almost every race from using strategy and it gets faster as fuel burns off and the tires get worn down. But it fits my style. It is probably the most important part of being successful. Gt Sports cars aren't 1 size fits all.
Super GT’s easy 3 stage guide to getting good... 1. Reach 180k subs. 2. Tell your boss to stick his job. 3. Practice your craft while I am sitting in a meeting being bored half to death by Janice waffling on about KPIs... God I hate Janice. JK, good job again mate. The way things are going I need to study this right now!
Don't break multiple times for the same turn. That's the best advice I've ever got. It only comes with practice and learning the track and car. But breaking to much then speeding up only to break again for the same turn. I was told only put your foot on the gas when you're absolutely sure you can pin it. That alone helped me with smoothness. I started to pay attention to breaking instead of going fast. Because in racing, breaking is as important as gas.
I recommend you drive around at least 10-15 laps in qualifying and check the times. Look at the bottom you will see your optimal times that is the best time you driven through the different sectors. If your best lap time is a second or above your optimal time you need to practice more. Your best lap time should be within 0.5 sec of your optimal time. Then drive a race and see how you do and then go back to do more qualifying if needed.
Maybe this is not obvious but if you are new to this , you will have probably had the car on automatic gearbox and all the other driver assistance possible. And like it has been said you will get better if racing without most of these and on manual gears. So what is the strategy to accomplish this. Well for a start take one thing at a time and progress with it until you are consistent with results. Gear changing is one element that is vital to get that speed away from corners as well as using the gearbox to some degree as a braking help. The best advice to get out of automatic gearbox is to find a race track with a reasonable number of corners rather than the oval of nascar events. Such a track should be one that has controlled gear changes that on switching to manual are easy to move on to. It will be useful to find a track that you are happy with and are consistent in reducing lap times. Taking a similar approach to the other driver aides with different tracks to gain experience is vital so as to build an all round confidence when having to deal with all the types of corners and chicanes. Once you are fully in control of the car then you can start removing the track elements one by one in a similar style these are the dotted racing line , the cones etc. in the end it will just be you the car and the track . Of course at various stages of your confidence and skill you should enter races on the basis to improve your race driving skills such as spatial awareness and anticipation of other drivers and what their actions are possibly going to do. Do not over estimate your skill and expect to finish on the podium every race . If you start nearly every race in last place for a while then that is ok if you progress through the placings getting up a few places in races and also without conflict or penalties. In the end be careful of wanting to take revenge on bad drivers as you do not want to spoil your race by charging after the other driver like a ranging bull as you will make mistakes and lose your confidence etc
I feel ya dude. So my advise if you're an adult working save as much as you can. Say set aside 50ish dollars or more if you can every month and itll add up sooner than you think. In my case I'm fine with my standard ps4 but i want to get a nice wheel somewhere around the $200 range so if i save 50 a month I'll have the funds within 4 months. So yeah, hopefully you'll get your sweet gear soon man, and maybe I'll see you out on the track! 👌
I have an xbox one x, thrustmaster tx wheel, fold up seat, 4K TV and Bose headphones. Both Project Cars 2 and Forza 7 are horrible experiences where you need to spend more time in the settings to get a good car feel than you do racing. I just use the controller again now. Hope this eases your desperation a bit 🤔
I know exactly how you feel, so 6 months ago I went all out, bought a PS4 PRO Pagian GT Extreme Cockpit Sony 50" 4k HDTV Fanatec CSL Wheel Fantec Pedals with the optional Load Brake Pedal and Fanatec Gearshift. Note Haven't even plugged in the Gearshifter as the Paddle Shiter on the wheel is way better. This is a great set up for about $A3000 all up (excluding the Gearshift)
Real later joiner here. Just got the PS4 as the PS5 was released!!! (Late adopter here) Thanks for taking the time to address these points, a really helpful guide for a Noob. 😊
I've noticed that when I break at the double cone marker, and stop breaking at the single cone marker that follows immediately after that, I'm generally at the perfect entry speed for cornering. That works for me, I'm not sure if that makes sense, or whether I've just become accustomed to it. Either way, that's my bit of input ☺️
Well, that's exactly what the cones are for. We use them in driving events at the racetrack (for real--I instruct for a few car clubs) and the two cones mean "brake here" and the single cone means "turn in here". Then there's a cone at the apex and another cone at track out. Exactly like what you see in GT. The better technique is to brake a bit after the two cones, and then let off the brake slightly as you turn in, maintaining the brakes (50% or less, this is called trail braking) almost to the apex, then transitioning to power as you pass the apex and track out, with throttle being applied progressively as you unwind the steering wheel. I can't seem to do it with a controller, but that's how its done.
Personally i would have put down as number 1 to get a wheel. I so much regret only getting a wheel now. But the difference in style and how you race is amazing. With a wheel you get much more feedback than you can with a controller.
As for straightening up before you get on the throttle- ive heard it explained as to imagine a string tied from the steering wheel to the gas pedal, so when coming out of slow corners, straighten up the wheel allows you to push the pedal farther down. Think of it as connected... By a string... Explained badly
I'm not even kidding when I say after watching about 50 of your videos in 1 week, I went back to forza and went from being in the bottom all the time, to gaining many positions. I still only have 1 win, but I'll get it eventually
One of the things that I (kinda) kept a secret, that it might help; is that I remapped my controller as to how “Forza’s” is - R2/L2 : Gas & Brake X/Square : Shift up and down It feels like Mini pedals for the fingers to where you can control the braking and gas a bit easier as to how you would with your feet (but not quite). It does require a bit of getting used to (if you run with TC off) but it helps to build-up some “Patience” with the gas and controlling the braking.
Sure GT you might have the full specs of your rig on the description and all the equipment you use but I have yet to see what racing socks you got on? I think it is crucial to shave off 5-6 secs in my hotlaps
Great video Steve! I think this really sums up most of the things tbf. However from my experience I think its also very smart to join a league or to join a group of friends/other players in (serious) lobbies. I think this really helps you with being consistent, especially because most leagues host endurance races, which do really help your consistency overall. Amd as you know, consistency is key in racing. Not only will it help with that, but I think it also helps with getting less nervous whenever someone is really pushing you because they want to overtake you. Also you can ask the faster guys in that league for tips/tricks for certain tracks/other conditions, for example if you’re really struggling with tyre wear. And last but not least, its also just very fun to get involved in a community/league and to chat with the other people! Also a mistake that people make, is that they look were the car is going instead of were they want the car to go, this really helped me out aswell when I started out on GT Sport. Because if you look were the car is going, most of the people will probably automatically bring the car more to that direction were their car is pointing to. And when you actually look in the direction you want the car to go (the apex while entering the corner, and the next straight while exiting the corner) you will automatically bring your car to that direction. When I started out on this game it really helped me to consistently hit the apex of the corner. This are some tips I think really helped me out at the beginning, and ofcourse, just practice, practice and practice!
Very good tips and I completely agree. Racing with top players and in leagues is very helpful to development of pace and consistency. Definitely advise this. Looking at the correct areas to drive your car into is also very important!

Also, stop trying to overtake in every corner. Find overtaking spots on the circuits that will make you lose least amount of time.
Some examples:
- Turn 1 at Red Bull Ring is not a good place to make a move because after it there is a long straight with hard braking zone. Instead try to overtake in the turns 3 and 4 (turn 4 leads to twisty section where it is easier to defend)
- Good overtaking spots at Interlagos are turns 1 and 4, attempting overtakes in the twisty section will lose your time
There are other examples, write them in the comments if you want.
Yes, I really agree with this. Too many drivers overtake at the soonest opportunity when it isn't the best place to pass. You gotta weigh up the risk but also how much time you will lose from the pass. Often it's better to wait behind and overtake when you lose less time.
Basically every turn at Monza. Go slow in-fast out and take em on the straights 👍

Small tip from me - if you're racing in Race C or the FIA races, then set up a private lobby and replicate the settings. Then run laps with the tyre and fuel degradation and get a better understanding of what the car will do as a race goes on. This will give you a much better idea of what to expect come race time and improve your results.
Yeah I do that. Really good tip

You don’t need to do one on Forza cause it’s quite simple:
GT Sport - Move out of the way to make your opponent avoid your slip stream.
Forza - move out of the way to make your opponent avoid dive bombing you.

Forza - Use track limits to avoid being side swiped or punted.

I've witnessed strategies for professional GT sport racers and I once watched their replays.
This is quite clever though
They adjust their gear ratios so that their
first gears are long.

Just expanding on a couple of things you talked about:
Partial throttle mid corner: Some cars are almost undrivable without partial throttle mid corner.
Some tracks have harsher track limits & sometimes only at certain corners (ie Le Mans, Tokyo Expressway)
15. If a car is more than 0.5 sec behind it's near impossible for them to make an immediate clean pass (watch out for the slipstream)
17. Back off the throttle / short shift while in slipstream.
Ghost is a pain because in qualli you need a clear track to see everything so if your even a bit behind it it blocks your view. If you want to practice the racing aspect, race.

Additional Top Tips (From a Forza player on GT Sport):
1.Instead of coasting around corners, make sure that you are applying half throttle instead. The cars don't rotate the same way that they do on Forza and so there is a massive advantage to be gained through a more constant throttle application than i was used to.
2.Another thing i see in the comments is people claiming that they listen to music whilst they drive: if i listen to music, i genuinely lose about half a second a lap just because my concentration is reduced(!)
3.Also, i spend more time qualifying than i do actually racing - if i turn up to a race without practice, my results are nowhere near as good as i find myself guessing as to what i need to do in order to go quickly
4.When watching replays, pay special attention to the gears that top players use - usually i find that top guys are using one gear higher/lower than i use myself, finding these mistakes usually make larger mistakes more clear and it is easier to therefore improve your pace.
5.If you are nervous when under pressure, you haven't practiced enough ;)
LZR Racerz thanks for the reminder, I need to turn the music off. Forza does it automatically, even in horizon the music gets quiet when doing any of the challenges
Its kinda hard to overcame the nervousness, I always nervous on fia qualifying therefore I tend to be way slower than practice times.
@@Adrian_Fella Totally agree with this
I totally agree with all your points but the first.
Object fixation. If you stare at the back of your opponent you WILL hit them.
I haven't played gran Turismo in years and its really cool to see that all the driving techniques I use in real life racing coming into fruition in a game. ths is sick
Tip: dont hit the brake to avoid going slow

This video is specifically for me. Thanks Steve, real bro 👍.
Not actually for me btw
I must say this video ( although I don't own the game yet ) was an actual good advice video on how to be better at racing.
never played GT Sport, but what I learned from a lot of rF2 and AC is:
-steering. if you make more than one or two motions (depending on the car) with the wheel into a corner, you're just scrubbing your tires. don't saw the wheel, some shuffling is good for stabilizing the car but in general you want as little movement as the car will let you get away with.
The most important thing is: Getting a steering wheel, it makes your lap times much faster when you get used to it.
Motion steering has been gold for me
Thank you so much. I switched to a wheel 2 months ago, and I haven't been able to keep up. Everything is going wrong, and I have not been able to figure out what I am doing wrong. I watched this video, and you totally solved it for me. I was not completely straightening out my wheel before smashing the gas. It is something so simple, yet I would not have thought of it without you. Keep up the great videos, love the channel. Again thank you, you've brought the enjoyment back to the game for me.

when you finally qualify in a good place. brake later into turn one. because you go way slower than you normally do.
it sounds obvious but you see a lot of people in the lower lobbys brake at the cones.
this way you get punted more than not because the cars behind dont expect you to brake there.
great video by the way, keep up the good work.
The commentator will also give you a broad comment about braking strength, lifting off accelerator, feathering brakes, etc.
understanding throttling and feeling the traction that comes with it around corners changed everything for me
I just bought a “cheap” G29. There is an abyss between the wheel and the controller.

While braking, some (my experience :almost all) corners your exit will improve while keeping your foot on throttle like halfway/partial. Your rpm will not drop below a certain dead zone and you have a better exit speed and faster recovery from corners
Have to say that I agree with you
I think all these points are solid and things I hadn’t considered, however, 2 points I think are critical.
Custom livery is also good for 1 or 2 seconds a lap
i drive cars with naked metal
saves weight
you noob
What do you mean, custom livery?
BTouch454
Livery editor
Making a car or buying a made car??
BTouch454
You can get any of your cars and repaint and put your own stickers on
Get into the livery editor and play around with it
Really good video Super GT.
Izz Din brake hard at beginning then when u enter corner, lessen your brakes
@@calster2545 gotcha, thanks man. Appreciate it.
Mate, this has to be the best gt sport tip video on you tube. Keep up the great work, im sure you're helping loads of people improve their craft.
Fm7 endurance online. Super fun
Ranges below 25 allow the car (except FF drivetrain)
to steer more than it otherwise would, highly beneficial in hugging apexes in hairpins etc.
50 & above, you covered that part. Without this meticulous utilisation, one will never and I can't stress enough,
NEVER be as fast as the fastest. If that's the ultimate goal, best learn that shit, proper!
Think Michael Schumacher's driving style, keep that minimum speed up throughout the corners, don't worry about fast entry/fast exit.
Jackie Stewart; "minimize the time spent between braking and accelerating". Respect to these 2 Legends.
hey superGT I got a GT sport question, How do i get a gf?
First of all change your name mate
Step 1. You don't.
GF sport
Whats a girlfriend?
Super GF
Im pretty late on this having just got a PS4 literally yesterday, one:
This game is pretty damn fun.
Two: thanks for the tips man, would love to race with you sometime man. 🙋
Great guide! Thank you. There are 2 things I need to get off of: traction control and the automatic transmission. Working on them. Thanks again.
My qualifing takes usaly half a day lol. I only start racing when i am as good as i can be. Also learn the breaking point from the first corner of a track when driving 80 kph from start finisch line. This is basicly a rolling start.
You’re tips on racing you give DURING your gt videos are the reason I bought this game. And I really enjoy it :)! Great video
Kie's replays also show which slippers add the most HP for any given race.
8:50 Brutality! Absolutely murdered! Jeez pal!
🤣
Also I’m glad we share the same annoyance with the track limits thing.
And most important
4) KNOW WHEN TO HOLD BACK.
Great advice lol especially the last part. Thanks for the tips fr tho
Logitec g29 driving force is brilliant!
But Fanatec is much better!
I just got one man I love it
23 times THANK YOU! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 only one thing to add: if you re using the advantage of cones you also have to live with the disadvantage of some times a cone sending you air born

But Steve you use a wheel what's up with that 🤔
Damian von Krövzic I remember using keyboard in Grand Prix, good times
Real men use mouse
Real men use telekinesis
Hahahah, lold at this. It was definitely a good feeling to throw down the resignation last year. Good luck with Janice!
Practice....There is no quick way. You have to put in the time.
8:50 the most legendary punt I’ve ever seen on this channel
He deserved it in all fairness, don't give it if you can't take it! 😂😂😂
Very good advice. Another tool you can use to ensure you are being consistent.
Yea that graph across the bottom should look smooth, not like a mountain range.
Even the improvisations are perfection, you are one gifted guitarist my friend
This video applies to road racing in general.👍🏾
Gran turismo is rlly realistic, formula drivers even use it. So ofc it’ll apply to road racing.
8:49 left me in tears ! hahahahahahahahahaha
8:49 Conservation of Linear Momentum right here bro, Newton would be proud
"just throw your car into the corner" - TRL_LIGHTNING
Honestly the F1 games teach you so much about fuel saving. The amount of time I gain in races because I do less pit stops comes in clutch so often
Dont read comments while cornering
Even thought I don't own GT Sport, or a PS4, I still find myself watching this.. and enjoying it.
Oh man. Watching GT Sport videos all day long makes me want to buy a PS4 Pro, wheel and seat to play so desperately 😭
This is a great set up for about $A3000 all up (excluding the Gearshift)
leospeedleo I’d wait for next gt on ps5

Real later joiner here. Just got the PS4 as the PS5 was released!!! (Late adopter here) Thanks for taking the time to address these points, a really helpful guide for a Noob. 😊
I've noticed that when I break at the double cone marker, and stop breaking at the single cone marker that follows immediately after that, I'm generally at the perfect entry speed for cornering. That works for me, I'm not sure if that makes sense, or whether I've just become accustomed to it. Either way, that's my bit of input ☺️
Same
Well, that's exactly what the cones are for.
Justin Case that’s explained well!
I'm not even kidding when I say after watching about 50 of your videos in 1 week, I went back to forza and went from being in the bottom all the time, to gaining many positions. I still only have 1 win, but I'll get it eventually
Thank you Super GT, very cool!
One of the things that I (kinda) kept a secret, that it might help; is that I remapped my controller as to how “Forza’s” is -
R2/L2 : Gas & Brake
X/Square : Shift up and down
It feels like Mini pedals for the fingers to where you can control the braking and gas a bit easier as to how you would with your feet (but not quite). It does require a bit of getting used to (if you run with TC off) but it helps to build-up some “Patience” with the gas and controlling the braking.
Using the right stick for shifting always felt better to me.
8:50 Shepherded off the track. lol

Great stuff, i am loads better now after watching your videos and streams! B / S rated im chuffed to bits with that and love the game!
machonugget that S can drop really fas even when u get pushed and didn’t even push any1. I dropped from S to C today by getting pushed of the track😭
