- I don't know why the Woodcock crossed the road, but they sure do it with panache!
The song "Limbo Rock" immediately popped into my head as I watched these adorable birds dance across the road. This instrumental version was first recorded by The Champs in 1961. When I was a kid, I loved the vocal version recorded in 1962 by Chubby Checker. Enjoy!
Researchers aren’t sure why woodcocks bob this way, but some believe that it may help them hunt by disturbing earthworms.
I love how the woodcocks are so small that the grass acts as a curtain for them to walk off stage to.

Anahahaha I took care of these when I used to work at the Toronto Wildlife Centre, they would certainly only act like this if they are super comfortable. They can indeed run very fast, they are very clearly putting on a show for you!!!😂👏

When I was younger I saw a women dancing with no music. Way before iPads and pods. I asked her, what are you dancing to? She replied, “I’m dancing to the music in my head baby.” That woman changed my life. Something about these birds reminded me of that time. 🙂

Wow these birds actually exist. I remember the cute bird in the cartoons that walked like this. Well he jumped a bit, but I think these must have been the inspiration. The bird was being followed by an infant with a bone in her hair. And a baby dinosaur. I was always fascinated by those adorable characters as a child.

I saw my first and only woodcock from my back porch in Virginia, just inside the adjacent woods. It's hard to miss an undulating bird even in the forest litter!

I’ve walked on the face of this earth for 63 years,and have never seen one,until a few days ago. I didn’t know what it was at first.I thought maybe an injured chipmunk or a baby squirrel.That walk was so weird,seemed like it took about 10 minutes to cross the road.I just sat back and enjoyed what,for me,sighting of a lifetime.
Ya know. This reminds me of living in New York. Being stopped at a traffic light and when it turned green the brothers crossing the street used to do the same dance! Ah sweet memories. 😂
