I was in the Army statationed at JBLM. I called the Sheriff's office on Wednesday and offered to bring 75 Sappers, Rangers and Engineers from Triple Nickel to assist in the search. I was told they had plenty of help. I was pissed when they cut the search short because it was too dangerous when a search dog split its paw and they only looked across 3 square miles. When I questioned this was told she was barefoot. I responded she is from the islands she has been walking barefoot over terrain her whole life, and I was ignored. Since we didn't have a formal invite or request, we could not participate.
Thats damning. You really can't have too much help when youre trying to do a widescale grid search. You need many people and the more skilled the better to divy up the sqaure footage. Pride often has a high price and this isn't the first time sub par law enforcement offices have turn help down when they are they ones who need it the most.
You make sense, you’re right. They didn’t want to deal with the terrain… She was most likely on a hallucinogen, all the more reason she could’ve wandered farther than usual. She could’ve climbed a tree and fallen, anything could’ve happened… Usually tracks disappearing at the road means someone was picked up or taken though… I hope for her loved ones that she’s found some day.
I have a hard time understanding how the police could so easily dismiss foul play etc. I mean, let’s be honest… she was young, pretty, and walking around naked. Her tracks stop at the road. You mean to tell me that there’s no possible way someone lured her into the car, took, hurt or killed her?!?!
@TheRisenPeopleEire scary is an under statement. It has come to the time in time to be ready for everything. Think the worst and hope for the best. No surprises. It's sad but true
With 23 years in law enforcement I would be suspect if tracking dogs would lose the scent of someone who is walking barefoot ... I think the scenario where she was picked up on the service road is likely the best lead. Tragic all away around.
@@steveluberda295 there was a small folding knife, a small box of standard matches, a compass in her little blue Fannie pack which was around her waist when she left.
I grew up with Anu. I wasnt close with her as we got older but id known her my whole life nonetheless. I frankly always felt she got picked up by someone with dark motives and it was weird to me how quickly that idea got swept away. This whole case is extremely sad and confusing. I appreciate the video immensely.
her decision making was okay, her big mistake was not wearing shoes. she got down in the steep creek, and could not climb out because she didnt have traction with bare feet, so she was forced to climb out the easier side of the creek, and ended up on that big forest service road, she probably decided to walk back to the CG on the FSR, where she was kidnapped. the forest is a million acres with thousands of miles of logging roads. so, finding her body or solving the crime was impossible, thats why the sheriff didnt investigate
@@showze21 “Her decision making was ok.”What???????? lol!😂. In what universe is walking naked in the wilderness a good decision?? Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
@@albertforletta1498 it’s not wilderness. It’s roaded National Forest. she didn’t intend to get out on that FSR. As long as she stayed in the forested creek, there was zero chance that she would encounter another person. She could have walked naked in the forest then return to camp in perfect safety
I’ve been on hundreds of K-9 searches and when the track suddenly dries up at a road, it normally means the person got into a vehicle. Sometimes other variables, but usually they got a ride out of there.
That was my conclusion as well. However if they followed her foot prints to the road you would think that there would be tire track evidence or even the way in which the foot prints looked should give a clue. If no tracks were found on the road that would be strange I think. Walking through the woods and coming upon a road I would think the person would capitalize on the easy walking.
Dogs were not brought in till six Days later. The creek side of the road was muddy and they found a footprint the other side was a slight forested rise that broke into steeper terrain with a ton of ground cover. The dogs never really lit on a trail. As I was there, I stayed and watched since they didn't want any help. Been on 231 search and rescue missions across the entire US and 2 in Germany it was the biggest half a**ed cluster I think I have ever seen outside of training.
I couldn’t tell from the video…was the forest service road dirt, gravel, hard surfaced, or some other form of surface? This should have made a difference both to the formation of tracks (both human and tyre) *and* to the persistence of scent trails, especially considering it rained at least once before searching and dog tracking began.
As a hippie who knew many hippies that acted just like Anu, someone taking hallucinogens, getting naked and going into the woods barefoot is not uncommon in that culture. Teenagers lack a fear of mortality. She probably thought "mother earth" would take care of her and didnt know the area at all. Her friends probably felt the same and were probably all trippin ba**s. I am certain she got lost/stuck and died of hypothermia. Im guessing authorities didnt do the best job of looking for her. Scavengers probably scattered her bones as mother earth took her home. Id say it was a "stupid hippie" mistake, but really, she was a beautiful, very young girl who must have been so loved and secure, she took a leap of faith in the universe and danger never occurred to her, until it did. I am sure she is in a better place now.
Being beautiful doesn't excuse stupidity. She and her friends were all old enough to know better. Hippies who think "mother earth" loves and will take care of them are delusional. "Mother earth" only loves you enough to give you a brain. If people decide not to use it and do stupid things like going on naked "spirit quests" (whatever the hell that means) then the tragic results are nobody's fault but their own.
You know, I think you’re very close to what happened and they still find people in Germany from World War II who died in trees with parachutes still attached to them, or they had climbed trees as a sniper, and was shot and killed most of the time searchers and people aren’t looking up in the trees.
I'm an ageing Hippy. I also did a lot of psychedelics. She's not in a better place she's dead! Don't try to make something beautiful and mystical out of this! It could have been avoided!
That's absolutely the behavior of someone on psychedelics. In the mid 90s when I did a lot of them and I wasn't the walk away naked sort of trip buddy but they were always around. One bad trip was enough to scratch that kind of activity right off of my list of trip activities. It would be terrifying to start peaking way too hard in the dark woods all alone. NOooooooo thanks
Whenever my friends and I get shrooms or ecstasy we would lock ourselves in the house and nobody was allowed to go outside There is a usually a couple of so people around a kind of baby sit As well People that young rarely fear mortality
Yes heard some crazy stories where people fumble outside! That woman on Maui who has lost for about 10-14 days - she barely survived. I heard the same with her. She was all alone too@@matthewpitre8159
right.. I could neverrrrrrrr go into the woods alone while tripping... but I also don't understand how people can take psychedelics at concerts and out in public either 0.o
I knew her. She was a student in my class at Lewis and Clark High School.. She had interesting tendencies. She went by the name "Anu." She played music all the time at school. I could see her "going on a quest" as she seemed to have a "pure soul.". She was overly trusting of people in general so I can see her being picked up by someone driving on the road. I know that she mentioned joining a commune as well while she was attending Lewis and Clark High School. I have hiked a lot in that area. A number of roads in the area have been closed due to vandalism so her being picked up on the road is certainly not out of the question. There are quite a number of intersecting trails in the area so it would also be easy to find your way out. Signage is good so finding trails out to a trailhead shouldn't have been too difficult.
@@jablanbukvovski Anu was a bit spacy, but I never noticed any serious mental issues. Was she "high?" Very possible. She was a person whom I would consider to be very vulnerable to foul play in any case. It was very sad for the teachers at Lewis and Clark High School.

Its a miracle most of us survive.our teen years and early 20s. We all wanna be so free, individual, and do all the things we have been told to never do. We have " itcanthappentomeitis". Only when we stumble our way to actual adulthood do we shudder at our own behavior. She didnt make it. And im so sorry for her family. I hope they have found a sliver of peace.
I think about that often. I shudder to think about all the dumb stuff I did in those years and all the close calls that could have just as easily gone bad. Even stuff like this makes me think about times we all would go to the forests to drink and do drugs, not saying she did or not, but I definitely did, and I wandered around by myself sometimes (fully clothed) but made my way back. Who knows why some of us make it while others (seemingly the best of us) go too soon. It's a bummer. Also, I'm sorry for being a bummer.
I feel this on a daily basis. It’s made me enjoy my mundane life and learn to appreciate the little joys. Thankful for all of us who made it to adulthood.
Yes I'm an older geezer now lol but I definitely could have bought the big ticket in my teens and 20's . I've heard it said if you get past your mid 20's then chances are you will go on to live a normal life span. The danger years for accidental or violent deaths is teens to 20's.

Shrooms.... the fact she stripped naked to go on a "spiritual journey" in the middle of the wilderness leads me to believe this. As for her disappearance I would say she was picked up on that forest service road.
@@AyeliaGDoren Not necessarily, naked hiking is apparantly a thing, she probably intended to come back but got lost. As for people disappearing, a woman went out one night in the fog on the estate where I live and has never been seen since, presumed abducted and murdered.
Not necessarily. I have periods where i become super depressed, and one of my ways of coping is through walking. I could see myself do something similar, if i was in her situation 🤷🏻♀️
There are dangerous people (and other things) in the woods, all kinds. The wilderness is not a playground, it's not Fern Gully, it's a very dangerous place. A naked and attractive woman strolling through the wilderness alone (and probably on lsd or shrooms) is a disaster waiting to happen. That poor woman...
I think a lot of these disappeared women stories would be different if more women carried at least some kind of hold out pistol. It would morph into, "crazy dude attacks woman she wips out 9 and wastes him," stories. A lot of questions would suddenly get answered.
No way those dogs lost her trail on something so easy as a road...she was picked up...if her trail ended at a creek somewhere remote then yes she wondered off but the trail ending at the road means only one thing no matter what those police say!
The trail was six Days old by the time the dogs were brought in. She went missing Sunday night THE FULL FORMAL SEARCH did not occur till the following Saturday. It began at 0900 by the time the Under Sheriff handed out assignments and search patterns it wasn't done as lanes, nevermind getting to in depth. Point is the actual search was Saturday 0900 hrs to 1545 hrs when it was called off as too dangerous after a search dog split its paw. No BS there were about 50 of us that were trained volunteers that showed up after formal request had been turned down hoping that if we showed they would include us I didn't happen we sat there all day watching and commenting on what we were seeing even some of the participating searchers came over after and we "discussed" till they took down the command fly and gave there final media brief that was about 1700 roughly there was only one news van still there packing when my son and I left to head back to Lacey I was too tired and we stopped in Centralia for the night before continuing home, Sunday morning
There was another guy who left from Vancouver, Wa, that survived for over a week on backside of Mt St Helens with flip flops and no supplies at all. He went on a hike to Blue Lake, which was less than a mile from his car. He was found in a ravene nearly dead over a week later, but he survived. A rescue helicopter had to pick him up because of his condition. . The person who found him said he was lying in the ravene, letting bee's sting him and picking them off for food. He still had his flip flops on, over a week later! Apparently, he doesn't remember much after the first day. Only that he walked a lot and lost his small backpack after falling down a hill. The backpack was found eventually too. We searched for him for seven days and we were on the last day when he was found.
I got hypothermic during a trail run - even though I was wearing appropriate clothing- it began to rain and I became chilled without realizing it - then I became confused and ended up way off the trail. I was fortunate in that I stumbled upon a hunting cabin in the woods. The people took me in, gave me a blanket and let me sit by the fire, then helped me find my way back. I can easily see how that could’ve ended up other me passing out and dying in the forest
So glad you're covering this! We lived in WA when this happened and it practically disappeared from the news circuit soon after. It was so sad nobody cared enough to look for her!
lots of people have commented that the Sheriff's office refused help, one had a group of 50 experienced volunteers and another was 30 from the army base near by, and they were told they weren't allowed to help. It is obvious someone in, or related to the sherrif's office picked her up off the FSR and they are hiding it. They also started the official search only a whole week later and refused to let anyone start before. To cover evidence.
That’s why we invented clothes in the first place! Poor girl really got herself in a deadly situation… being young has downsides too. Maybe if she brought with her sandals and emergency blanket… it’s sad.

Do you think none of them just walk around? I'm not trying to be rude or joke around just looking at it she Should not have been walking around naked though because that's just dangerous
It may seem strange that she walked off with no shoes, but as a former hippie (who also happens to live in Western Washington), barefooted hiking (and just walking barefoot outside in general) is EXTREMELY common. My friends and I used to hike the Lake Sylvia trail, as well as Wynoochie and various other parks barefoot all the time. In fact, we hardly ever wore shoes unless we were going into a store. There's something about being able to feel the dirt and grass beneath your feet that makes you feel more atuned to the wilderness. Eventually, we got to the point where we could walk on rocks and sticks without feeling any pain whatsoever. The bottoms of your feet start to toughen up, and it feels really comfortable. I never thought about it before, but I guess it would sound pretty weird for someone to walk barefoot in the woods! 😂 Just extremely common where I'm from to go without shoes.
I used to hike several miles barefoot in the cascade mountains in Oregon, it's definitely possible if your feet are built for it, or if your on something
I'm not from Washington, but back in the 70S I went everywhere barefooted. It got to be that I could walk on almost anything! I remember walking on concrete when it was 100 degrees out. I didn't even feel it.😅
@susanh1292 sounds just like me at KU in the late '70s. You could eventually walk anywhere barefooted. Sadly these days my feet won't allow it ... but boy, I loved it back then.
Depends on the temperature. If it was warm enough out there, then my theory is... she stripped off her clothes at 5pm, then wandered into the woods, and was fully consumed by mosquitoes before the clock reached midnight.
I would have to agree with that logical conclusion except the fact that the tracking dogs were able to track her a couple football fields away in the trail ended at a road and she was a naked young woman on LSD or shrooms so it's pretty obvious that somebody abducted her bro come on
@UndertheNeedle282 there could be a body they never found. Happens a lot, and many years later, random people find the body on accident in the very area the search was occurring.
Look at Jason Landry missing in Texas a couple of years back. He wasn’t really on a hike, but the circumstances are similar-naked-drugs? - cold night- hypothermia? - body never found!
15:36 the mushroom hemp necklace and the glassy eyed stare in this picture, combined with the drug rug she's wearing in another picture, and the fact that she walked off naked into the woods to go on a "spirit journey" all kinda points to her probably tripping when she disappeared. I could totally see her friends just saying no drugs were involved because they also might have been on or had drugs, she might have had drugs on her as well, and they just didn't want anyone to get in trouble. The information that she was on drugs at the time really doesn't do anything to help in the search anyways, it's not like the cops knowing she was on a 10 strip of acid would have pointed them in the direction she was heading or told them where she ended up. To me it makes more sense then just randomly getting naked around all your friends to go venture off into the woods alone, this whole thing just sounds like something someone would do if they were tripping balls.
@@potatertots2060That law is for when you call 911 when somebody is overdosing. I'm not sure if it would apply in this case. I've gone camping on X and Shrooms on different occasions. We had to stop one of my friends from doing exactly this. Girl got messed up on something and decided she wanted to be one with nature or something like that, then found herself in trouble because she was lost in the beauty of everything and stumbled into some kind of dangerous situation. Her friends were probably equally messed up and thought it looked like a good idea at the time. Either that or they're just TERRIBLE friends. Like I said, we were all on the same substance and still had the sense to stop the one of us who wanted to go wandering around the woods in their birthday suit. The friend we stopped was a dude, so the desire to not see that fool naked might have helped.
Exactly, terrible friends. Even if they would be tripping balls I doubt everyone was suddenly experiencing ego death right in the moment when she decided to strip and go away and not even one of them recognized it was a dangerous idea. Her FB post about asking simply anyone who was able to go probably didn't help. She was around people who probably didn't care about her enough (yeah, the idea was hers but still...) Sad story.
WTF are her friends supposed to do? Restrain her against her will? Wtf do you mean “allow”? It’s not something they can allow or not. It’s her choice and beyond trying to dissuade her (not going to work) there’s nothing else they can do to stop her.
I know this area well. The campground is still open for camping but it is not maintained. The main road getting to the campground has washed out and is not going to be repaired. It is a beautiful area but very wild and dangerous if you are not familiar or aware of your surroundings.
When I was living in Northern California it was common to hear stories of people who were tripping on Hallucinogenics, like mushrooms or acid, going out into the forest, getting lost for days. One young man tripping on something hallucinogenic, went off into the woods naked, and cut his own testicles off, thinking the devil was in them. I am a little disappointed by whoever she was with that let her go off like that, without a guide… Typically, if you take enough Hallucinogenics to trip like that, someone is always with your to ensure your safety. We can only guess that the friends at the camper also tripping, I’m not able to watch over her. One can only assume at this point. Thank you for your reporting 🙏
Hey Kyle -- WA state hiker here. Disappearances in our forests are not that unusual due to the number of large carnivores that we've got here. Particularly with the lack of any clothing or gear, there's just not much to be found that -- and I'm trying not to be insensitive to her family or friends who may read this -- would not be of interest to hungry animals, which would include bears, mountain lions, and coyotes. I remember this happening and I remember hearing that she'd taken mushrooms the night of and wandered off, which would explain both her decision to do so and the inability of her friends to stop her. It's possible that it all seemed fairly reasonable at the time. It also might explain the unwillingness of some people to risk their lives to look for her, because this IS remote, difficult terrain and searching is not without risks. This is a sad story and unfortunately illustrates how unforgiving the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest can be to people who are unprepared and do not treat it with the proper respect.
The biggest oddity to me is her trail ending at the road. Either she had someone waiting for her and was planning to disappear, or she got lost and found the road, then flagged down a passing car, who ended up being a not so nice person. From the way it sounds, this road was probably not heavy on traffic. Just happening across someone driving doesn't sound likely. So it makes me wonder if she planned to disappear, and the person waiting on her tricked her into pulling this stunt, and did something devious in the end. Pretty girl. Young. Influential. She could have thought she was going for a mysterious tryst, and ended up in the hands of a trafficker.
You're so real for 10:00 people are always saying "I would've done this, I would've done that" but guess what? You weren't there, you weren't involved, it's so easy to sit and judge from the outside...
I would have done what Anu did! And my friends would have encouraged it! Except the no shoes and naked part. That's more than a little out of my comfort zone.
I wanted to say that your coverage of these incidents is great. I subscribed last month and I’ve been able to take a lot of tips from your channel for when I want to resume hiking. Crazy things can happen!
It’s also important to note that her being a beautiful Indigenous girl makes her case one of many MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women). Indigenous women go missing all over the country every day and the fact her footprints disappear at the roadway and the police deny foul play is pretty typical of MMIW cases.
I wish people would pay more attention to this. This is why they dropped the investigation when it was such a strong and clear lead that she was picked up by someone.
I'm in the UK and even I know about this horrendous trend of missing Indigenous women. The fact there wasn't much effort put into finding her for very long absolutely sickens me. A blond white girl with influential parents might have had a different search 🤔😩
Isn’t there a road, I believe, in Canada called The Highway of Tears where indigenous women and girls go missing ? Why does no one care about these poor souls. It’s horrific. God rest their souls.
She disappeared almost 11 years ago, but given the fact I (and many people i know) spend a notable amount of time in and around the Canyon Creek area, as well driving FSR 54 and the innumerous miles of connecting forest service and logging roads, its Crazy to think this is SOOO close to home...
I cannot imagine the horror she would feel when she finally comes to her senses, realizing she is in the middle of a forest she's not familiar with, during the dark night, with nothing, not even clothes, to protect herself.
When people are exposed to the elements, rain etc, im sure some of them search for some nook to crawl into and keep warm and out of the rain (i know i tried to...) She may not have been found yet cuz she is squirreled away somewhere.
She would have been powerless against a wolf, a cougar, a coyote pack, a bear, a leg-breaking fall, a predatory man or men, hypothermia, etc. etc. etc. Such a bad idea, such a pointless tragedy that could have been averted with the right gear, some training, a sober mind, and a couple of reliable, experienced, friends -- not to mention some tech designed for just this situation. Rest in Peace.
What help would a thin layer of clothes be against a coyote pack or a bear? This focus on nudity because it is uncommon does not serve to explain her disappearance, except for the scenario of a rapist who just happened to be driving up the service road and offered her a ride, though that kind of person would not necessarily be that much more stimulated to attack her than if she were wearing clothes.
What a mystery. It seems like there were a lot of things that went wrong, but it started with a bad decision, to leave an established camp site with zero supplies and without telling anyone her plan.
I think it's extremely rare when things go horribly wrong. It doesn't all start with at least one bad decision. And I also believe that people should be held responsible for the costs of searches etc. Maybe through paying insurance for the possibility of needing rescue. Regardless of bad decision making, how many, how big? Every person deserves the best help available. And one day doesn't quite cut it.
I know that area. Lotsa unmapped lava caves. I've lived in and hiked the Rockies and the Pacific Northwest extensively. In my opinion, the Pacific Northwest is more deadly. At first glance, it's topography seems less rugged and it's temperature range feels less extreme but this can lull you into a false sense of security. Make no mistake, though, if the cougars and bears don't take a nibble, hypothermia will take a whole bite. It's cold and damp every night of the year and if you don't know what you're doing, you're a wet corpse faster than you can say, "I can't get a signal!"
The western side of Washington and Oregon unfortunately have several of these just missing without a trace in the woods, hikers, hunters, children and adults alike it’s the twilight zone.
Nudism/Naturism and Wicca's "Sky-Clad" philosophy are unto themselves not really all that big a deal. A lot of people feel that a remote woodland setting is an appropriate locale for non-sexual activities lacking clothing; they're neither exhibitionists or voyeurs.
Nudity is seen in today's standard as embarrassing or shameful, but there is something so freeing being naked alone in the woods. I however, will not loose sight of my camp or take my camp shoes off. I feel like people who judge haven't ever had that sort of experience.
On almost every video of her she seems high. Going naked in the woods is telling me that she was either really high on something, extremely stupid (along with her friends), or just planned the whole thing where someone was waiting for her on that road. Of course, the evidence is telling us that she was taken on that road; otherwise the dogs would have no problem finding her, especially so soon after the disappearance.
OMGosh I remember when she disappeared and I scoured the news trying to find information about this young woman… it has disturbed me since! Im So Happy you’re shining a light on her disappearance! Hopefully maybe it’ll make someone give it another go!
I think there is also a possibility someone came across her and there was some foul play, walking naked alone (possibly on drugs) in an unpopulated area probably greatly increases the chances of someone trying to victimize you.
I appreciate you putting her friends choices into perspective. It’s so much easier to judge and assume when you know the outcome. If they were in a secluded area with no other campers being around it wouldn’t seem like as big of a deal having her wondering around. If that was not unusual for her or anything.
I'm local and I remember this being a wild one. It was all over the news and many people went out to search. Canyon Creek CG was relatively remote even back then before the FS decided to quit repairing the road that washed out every few years. The camp ground is "closed" but still usable by back country folks, its just not maintained by the FS. That whole Canyon Creek stretch is pretty rough woods. It's a Creek in a Canyon as the name would imply, so travel off track is nearly impossible. The forest road parallels the creek from the west, crosses over to the south side and winds its way through the Cascades heading east towards the PCT. (I believe the PCT crosses FR54 at some point, but I could be mistaken. It's a rats nest of logging roads on that side heading towards Carson, WA/Mt Adams and I haven't been in that particular area in 10 years or more.) To be on foot out there would not be easy travel. There's only a few roads and fewer established trails. Lots of places to get lost and never found again out there, much of the woods off the roads and trails have quite possibly never had a human footprint set in them. The whole terrain is ancient volcanic in origin, so it's rocky in parts, steep in parts, trees jutting out the sides of slopes. Before the road washed out it was relatively heavily trafficked for a forest road, so it's possible she got picked up by two-legged wildlife. There's also plenty of four-legged wildlife out there, too, black bear, mountain lions. Edit: after looking at a map, FR54 stays to north of the creek and it's FR37 on the south side with the camp ground access from 37. So she crossed the creek to get to the 54 road. Also, neither road intersects the PCT. The PCT runs to the south and juts east before the termini of both roads with FR30.
Exactly what I was thinking. It was a Facebook post she made asking if anyone wanted to go camping. Many of us who use Facebook are “friends” with people who we in real life aren’t too close with. Who ended up going with her? I’d hate to assume/suggest there was any foul play on her friends part but were they all thoroughly interviewed? I do hope one day she is found and the mystery will be solved. Prayers go out to her family and friends.
I think I remember this being covered in Outside magazine. She had been wanting to go on a vision quest for some time, as it was part of her heritage. Not sure if part of that tradition is to get all F'd up and walk buck naked into the woods. If they tracked her to that forest road, her body was most likely curled up under a log somewhere within a mile of that location. RIP beautiful😥
I went on a "spirit quest" when I was younger. It's typically associated with native American religions. It doesn't always involve psychedelic drugs, but a lot of the time it does. The concept is to wander a parcel of land until the spirits speak to you and tell you where to settle down for the night. You set up a protective circle and stay in it until dawn. The stripping of her clothes may have been to feel closer to mother Earth. I just did it barefoot but still with clothes. Mine was a little safer because we were taken in a van out to a parcel of land and told where the borders were, and in the morning they did a roll call to ensure no one went missing. I suspect she misstepped or got lost in the forest. Maybe she fell wrong while on drugs. This is a sad story but I'm not surprised she went missing given all the context.
Don't they have nude hiking on the Appalachian Trail? Sadly, they won't find much except scattered bones, if that. With no protection from the elements or predators, she wouldn't have lasted long. Plus, walking naked along a road, she could gave become a murder victim who was dumped far away. Rest in peave Anu.
@musingwithreba9667 ahh.. I remember a politician claiming he waa hiking the Appalachian Trail when he was actually with a mistress. Then it came out it was nude hiking day which wasn't good for him either.
This was always just too suspicious to me. They called off the search way too early, refused help from the local military base and the National Guard, etc, like they knew something we don't. They said they don't believe foul play is involved, but I think they know it was, and don't want to spook their suspect until they can find evidence. I wish we did have a way to bring closure to her family.
completely agree with your conclusions. the brief search, refusal of additional organized search efforts, and lack of followup are highly suspect. also, if she were my daughter, i would not stop searching until she is found. period. i am sorry, anu, that no acted to save you from yourself.
@@meghanmisaliar She "evidently didn't want to live in society"? That's a very weird take. Taking hallucinogens (which I'm convinced she did), stripping naked and consequently wandering off on a 'spiritual quest' is something many young people do/have done. This doesn't mean they don't want to live in society.
Just a thought on why, if she did die in the forest for some reason, there is no body -- she is just a body. In most cases when a body is found some article of clothing is spotted which leads someone to look further. Also clothing may keep predators from dragging away body parts. In Anu's case, there is nothing to impede predators from scattering her bones over a wide area, leaving it very difficult to find her. Aside from the very long dark hair, the rest of her would just melt into the mottled colors of the forest floor.
Spirit quest in this context is code for taking psychedelics in nature, and said psychedelics increase the desire to be barefoot when in nature and also make walking barefoot through the forest way easier. It’s really not so mysterious.
I think it's possible that this woman didn't perish at the time of her disappearance, because of the possible footprints, that could have stopped where a car might have picked her up.
I think it's very possible that she was picked up,or abducted if you will, on that forest road. Especially if that's pretty much where they lost her prints.!?
A lot of the other RUclipsrs I used to like became to “commercialized” and gone down hill. Appreciate your efforts and donations to different rescue operations that’s definitely cool to see.
We can definitely blame someone. The fool who walked naked into the woods and the fools who let her. Learn from the mistakes of the foolish so they don't happen again.
@@MrEpeeFencer 100% agree. We all make our own choices and pave our own paths in this world. Her immature, irresponsible, and inconsiderate actions led to her own demise.
How sad that a good time with friends ended so horribly. Chances are she will never be found but I hope that her family and friends have found some peace. Thank you for trying to bring attention to her case.
Sounds like Peyote. That psychedelic is closely associated to spiritual quests as well. It turns your world upside down. Forget where you are, who you are, what you’re doing. It is an intense experience. Shrooms unless you are going for hero dose usually aren’t that extreme. Granted people react differently to everything. Even with a compass if she didn’t know which direction she came from then she couldn’t get back. Sad, and my heart goes out to her family.
i agree with the peyote possibility and the fact that shrooms are nowhere near strong enough to do something like this. but also, acid could cause the same thing to happen. but given that she was naked, I think that the best bet is she got picked up on that forest road that’s what it sounds like and she was probably out of her mind and got into a vehicle with someone….or was snatched

@@Munchkinlord27I hope I can bring some more awareness to her case. I'll be sure to make a follow up if more information is found. Best to you and others that knew her.
I live in Vancouver and remember this incident very well and thought it was so strange when it happened. The fact that they never found her was sad but I had a feeling drugs were involved and she probably died from the elements but nothing was ever said!
So... was she instrumental in deciding on the destination / location of the camping trip? Did she suggest or promote it? That could be suspicious and point to her having a plan, or something in mind, for that location.
A plan that didn't require clothes, shoes, supplies, common sense, a car, companions, etc? She was tripping too hard got picked up on that road by any one of the numerous serial killers that call the PNW their home.
Sadly, @@bradsanders407 , I think you're probably right. Perhaps even being held against her will. But, it would be interesting to know if she had any say with the destination... because it would be the perfect way to fall off the face of the earth and start a new life.
Except her footprints and scent ended at the road. Being naked, she would have a strong trail for a tracking dog to follow as the track through shed skin cells.which should have been abundant with no clothes to get caught up in.
So sometimes mental health issues such as bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia cause people to begin thinking about spiritual quest, spirit guides, signs from the spirits, I personally had 2 acquaintances that this happened to. One was picking up roadkill and carrying it around believing it was carrying a bigger message for her, and another thought that any time an animal crossed her path that it was the spirit of her dead child bringing her messages... A mutual friend got through to the latter by telling her that honestly it was just a dear in the road and it was time to talk to her shrink about her grief and get on the right combination of drugs and grief counseling... Which was successful to a degree. Don't blindly support these beliefs just because you don't want to be a buzz killer.
She was probably on psychedelics, much higher odds than her having a mental disorder that just made her go on a “spiritual journey.” Most people who are bipolar or have schizophrenia never get those odd “messages from God,” it’s pretty ubiquitous with psychedelics.
This is a horrible story. And if they lost her on the road I think she was abducted by someone. And if she was on Hallucinatgentics her friends would have not let her go alone. Because anything could happen. And just her being naked shows she was not thinking clearly, weather she was on drugs or not! I really think she was abducted! That’s the only thing that makes sense. My prayers are with her family!!
Why would anyone stand by and allow that thinking anything but disaster could follow. That sucks man. You HAVE to stop her, especially if you were there with her.
Ye id be worried about someone taking advantage off her and sadly i think thats what happened tbh a attractive naked girl walking threw the woods by herself in back country thats just waiting for sum to happen
It depends on the power of her personality, how confident she was, maybe she told them she wouldn’t be long and they believed her, maybe they were all under the influence of drugs and what she was proposing to do seemed perfectly fine to them at the time
@@mrennie5158 Yes, exactly. They probably as high as she was, and people keep forgetting that she put an ad out for some people to go with her...these weren't her regular friends; they were just people she just met too.
What bugs me most is how searches can be cut short & don't allow help in the search for a missing person. ~it's too often searches feel underwhelming & i just wish places could utilize local people who are avid/willing hikers to explore because missing people get lost in the weirdest spots sometimes and it really doesn't seem like most searches actually search for people in that manner?
My experience is Search and Rescue/SAR and other volunteer groups or agencies don’t want the trouble and risks of involving untrained people to help them in difficult terrain and night searches, let alone in daytime conditions. It can create more victims in the process. It’s sad that they often refuse other worthy searchers such as military, as well, because their teams wish to handle it themselves. If they invite the public, they need to have a larger base location near the site, water and other supplies, and they must leave staff or volunteers behind to manage the volunteers and oversee their health and safety. These groups also don’t have deep pockets if volunteers get injured or lost, and if families sue them. Sad but true.
@@DAnna639 that's a bummer. I go on night hikes all the time with my 2 dogs here in the Oregon woods. I got a powerful flashlight with 2 18v rechargeable batteries & so I got hooked on exploring at night. I bring a backpack with a air horn. My backpack is covered in reflectors, & it has a bunch of other helpful stuff just in case. I have a metal baton just to be safe. The more night hikes I did, the more I enjoyed how focusing it would be. You really become hyper aware of your senses and your observation skills improve. It improved my navigation skills, no matter how much I'd hike off trail. Most people are afraid of hiking at night but it's actually pretty cool. Most animals eyes shine so if you stay observant you can figure out whats around you before you just run into it. Night hikes feels like stepping into a totally different world. If someone can get past their anxiety about it, it's actually amazing, almost like active meditation. Also if you find yourself in a difficult situation my air horn was really good at scaring off any animals but anyways, I wish I could help with search and rescue work or something like that
Like previous comments, the first thing that came to mind was the whole "spiritual cleansing with hallucinogens" thing. I may be old, but I remember my 'experiments', and the naked thing definitely sounds like hallucinogens could have been involved. I mean, as a woman, I would not have stripped off all my clothes unless I was high as a kite. If you take that as a given, a young woman roaming around in that area naked, under the influence of drugs, only God knows. An evil person, a bear...a sad end to a life that had lots of potential.
I’m guessing she tucked herself up under a log or rock outcropping and passed away. People are great at tucking themselves away when hypothermia kicks in. It doesn’t make the search easy and you’d be surprised how small a full-grown adult can be when curled up.
I didn't know Anu personally, but she seemed so loved and it seemed like she had a good head on her shoulders. Nobody should be judged by their beliefs or ways of life. We should all be so lucky to have the confidence that Anu had throughout her life, just in general. Sometimes we don't know why strange events happen, as unfortunate as it is. But I wish her loved ones all the best.
I find that law enforcement is very touchy on these types of cases. The fact that being barefoot and naked makes you easier to track by dogs and the scent trail ended at a roadway should be obvious that she was likely picked up by someone. So either she planned to disappear or she was taken against her will. I think if she was dragged off by an animal, her scent trail would continue by the mere activity of being dragged naked and end at a place where you'd find some remains. But again, if you're going to be adventurous, plan it out and do it in a safer fashion with trustworthy friends. Avoid taking drugs or hallucinagens. You dont need them for a spiritual experience. I try to limit my adventures to my limitations and, if necessary, emplore on more experienced, trustworthy friends to help. But im seriously practical and a bit paranoid.
Dude, I have done massive amounts of magic mushrooms when camping, hiking, fishing, blah blah blah. I mean massive doses. I never once found myself wondering naked in the middle of nowhere. Hallucinogens don’t work that way.
This is really a bizarre story that I've never heard of before. Being the father of two adorable girls, it scares the crap outta me of what became of her. I really feel for the parents especially knowing the circumstances of her disappearance. Thank for giving me many sleepless nights from now on. 😟

Something is really fishy to me about this. If I was camping with someone and they stripped down and said they were gonna walk out into the woods I'd give that big ol negative. Thats not acceptable.
Being in the middle of it out here, many times with friends, No problems, but I am not walking out there in the dark. I have done "those" things and we walked through in darkness. But I was not alone and knew were we were.
Obviously, as she wandered in the wilderness in her birthday suit, from a certain distance an extremely hairy individual known as Sasquatch saw her. He was instantly smitten. He strode over to her , picked her up and took her to a secret love cave. To this day, they are living together in harmonial bliss, in a densely wooded hideaway, living off the land and raising their two little Sasquatchlets.

Thank you for sharing and caring ♥️
Thats damning. You really can't have too much help when youre trying to do a widescale grid search. You need many people and the more skilled the better to divy up the sqaure footage. Pride often has a high price and this isn't the first time sub par law enforcement offices have turn help down when they are they ones who need it the most.
Omg that’s maddening!!! 😢
That was stupid of law enforcement. Apparently, after all this time, law enforcement did not!!!!😢😢😢😢
I have a hard time understanding how the police could so easily dismiss foul play etc. I mean, let’s be honest… she was young, pretty, and walking around naked. Her tracks stop at the road. You mean to tell me that there’s no possible way someone lured her into the car, took, hurt or killed her?!?!
Exactly! I think this is the most likely scenario.

It's bewildering but as time goes on the world is just getting more and more apathetic across the board as we progress and it is scary.
@TheRisenPeopleEire scary is an under statement. It has come to the time in time to be ready for everything. Think the worst and hope for the best. No surprises. It's sad but true
My thoughts as well
With 23 years in law enforcement I would be suspect if tracking dogs would lose the scent of someone who is walking barefoot ... I think the scenario where she was picked up on the service road is likely the best lead. Tragic all away around.
I thought the same, unfortunately. Naked eighteen yo walking around a dirt road in rural Washington. Good grief.
But could have had a survival blanket in her fanny pack if she was a seasoned hiker.

her decision making was okay, her big mistake was not wearing shoes. she got down in the steep creek, and could not climb out because she didnt have traction with bare feet, so she was forced to climb out the easier side of the creek, and ended up on that big forest service road, she probably decided to walk back to the CG on the FSR, where she was kidnapped. the forest is a million acres with thousands of miles of logging roads. so, finding her body or solving the crime was impossible, thats why the sheriff didnt investigate
So-called "mother earth's" job is to turn dead plants & animals into compost so more life can grow from the enriched soil.
Mother earth "took care of her" just not in the way she thought.
That's absolutely the behavior of someone on psychedelics. In the mid 90s when I did a lot of them and I wasn't the walk away naked sort of trip buddy but they were always around.

Was wondering what the temps were like as well. Thats a place you keep a jacket” just in case” in summer.
It's called getting your summer feet.
I still go barefoot. I don’t have any problems walking in the woods or anywhere else. Boomer baby hippie here.
Walking naked through the Gifford Pinchot at night? Here's a crazy guess -- hypothermia.
Depends on the temperature. If it was warm enough out there, then my theory is... she stripped off her clothes at 5pm, then wandered into the woods, and was fully consumed by mosquitoes before the clock reached midnight.
There would be a body
I would have to agree with that logical conclusion except the fact that the tracking dogs were able to track her a couple football fields away in the trail ended at a road and she was a naked young woman on LSD or shrooms so it's pretty obvious that somebody abducted her bro come on
@UndertheNeedle282 there could be a body they never found. Happens a lot, and many years later, random people find the body on accident in the very area the search was occurring.
It was June 9th, summer.
I don’t think they could’ve gotten in trouble right? Good Samaritan laws or something? But most people don’t know that.
@@potatertots2060That law is for when you call 911 when somebody is overdosing. I'm not sure if it would apply in this case. This is a different situation than what the law was created for but I believe it SHOULD apply. (Although I don't think simple possession should be a crime at all) It would most likely be up to the cops/the court in the end.

She was around people who probably didn't care about her enough (yeah, the idea was hers but still...) Sad story.
happened to my daughters friend too took her clothes off climbed up to the top floor of a dorm and jumped off the balcony she lived
WTF are her friends supposed to do? Restrain her against her will? Wtf do you mean “allow”? It’s not something they can allow or not. It’s her choice and beyond trying to dissuade her (not going to work) there’s nothing else they can do to stop her.
FRENAMY....MANY OF THEM...
I know this area well. The campground is still open for camping but it is not maintained. The main road getting to the campground has washed out and is not going to be repaired. It is a beautiful area but very wild and dangerous if you are not familiar or aware of your surroundings.
I used to live in Yacolt. I tried to drive out there one day and found the washed out road. I have a video of it on my RUclips channel.

Your team must have sucked.
I went to disco with her also :)
I frequent that area almost every weekend and every time i drive past the campsite she dissapeared from i get chills. So sad 😢
so then the road to the campsite must still be open, right?
This is super fucked up and the fact that most dont give a shit is nothing shy of horrific!!
God rest their souls.
this
She disappeared almost 11 years ago, but given the fact I (and many people i know) spend a notable amount of time in and around the Canyon Creek area, as well driving FSR 54 and the innumerous miles of connecting forest service and logging roads, its Crazy to think this is SOOO close to home...
Like in mother natures womb
She would have been powerless against a wolf, a cougar, a coyote pack, a bear, a leg-breaking fall, a predatory man or men, hypothermia, etc. etc. etc. Such a bad idea, such a pointless tragedy that could have been averted with the right gear, some training, a sober mind, and a couple of reliable, experienced, friends -- not to mention some tech designed for just this situation. Rest in Peace.
Wild animal attacks in the woods are practically non-existent in SW Washington. There are human predators we need to be concerned about.
No wolves in that area
@@vaughnanderson3790and she knew that.
I think she was picked up.
What a mystery. It seems like there were a lot of things that went wrong, but it started with a bad decision, to leave an established camp site with zero supplies and without telling anyone her plan.
Probably an ego thing, police don't want the army to show them up.😮
@@heidikroft3337what does that have to do with the comment ?
She made a poor choice. It’s no one else’s fault but hers.
especially part about telling someone your plan/ destination.
Sounds like she probably didn't have a plan, was just going where she felt at the time.
It's cold and damp every night of the year and if you don't know what you're doing, you're a wet corpse faster than you can say, "I can't get a signal!"
wow😮😢
The western side of Washington and Oregon unfortunately have several of these just missing without a trace in the woods, hikers, hunters, children and adults alike it’s the twilight zone.
I've been all over the Gifford and I'll tell you you can easily get lost if you don't know where you're going
No matter my love for nature and kinship with nature, one thing would stop me from full nudity: mosquito bites!
Washingtonian here, naked hippie hikers aren’t totally out of the norm. Disappearing naked hippie hikers aren’t so normal though
I mutually knew anu in high-school. This still haunts me a bit. Hope they find something out one day.
Find her corpse or skeleton?
I think there is also a possibility someone came across her and there was some foul play, walking naked alone (possibly on drugs) in an unpopulated area probably greatly increases the chances of someone trying to victimize you.
I appreciate you putting her friends choices into perspective. It’s so much easier to judge and assume when you know the outcome.
If they were in a secluded area with no other campers being around it wouldn’t seem like as big of a deal having her wondering around. If that was not unusual for her or anything.
Absolutely bless all that loved her. Their loss and no answers are unimaginable.
Too say the least.
I'm from NY but now live about 60 miles away from there. Just so scary 😮
How do we know her friends were telling the truth?
Exactly. She got cold and wet that night and squirreled away somewhere where she eventually died of hypothermia.
Sounds exactly like something a kid from the suburbs would do lol
do the spirits ever tell someone to pack it in and go home? stop being stupid in bear country?
Over 10 years how sad
This poor young lady made a tragic mistake 😢
Don't they have nude hiking on the Appalachian Trail? Sadly, they won't find much except scattered bones, if that. With no protection from the elements or predators, she wouldn't have lasted long. Plus, walking naked along a road, she could gave become a murder victim who was dumped far away. Rest in peave Anu.
There's "Naked Hiking Day" all over, not just on the AT. It falls every year on the Summer Solstice
She got in a car with someone. Seems beyond obvious. Her footprints and scent stopped at the road.

This was always just too suspicious to me. They called off the search way too early, refused help from the local military base and the National Guard, etc, like they knew something we don't. @@QueenKayKay47and that's exactly what it was. Guarantee she was on drugs.
That’s a great point; should definitely be considered a viable explanation
Spirit quest in this context is code for taking psychedelics in nature, and said psychedelics increase the desire to be barefoot when in nature and also make walking barefoot through the forest way easier. It’s really not so mysterious.
I've never heard of this case before. Thank you for bringing this case to my attention.
I think it's possible that this woman didn't perish at the time of her disappearance, because of the possible footprints, that could have stopped where a car might have picked her up.
I think it's very possible that she was picked up,or abducted if you will, on that forest road. Especially if that's pretty much where they lost her prints.!?

When you called that guy a shrink, are you sure that's the right treatment for grief? Better than believing in fairies and stuff?
She was probably on psychedelics, much higher odds than her having a mental disorder that just made her go on a “spiritual journey.” Most people who are bipolar or have schizophrenia never get those odd “messages from God,” it’s pretty ubiquitous with psychedelics.

Yup, terminal burrowing, that's my thoughts as well.
I found your channel and I can’t stop watching!
Uh you took some tame stuff. Yea it’s definitely possible
Idiots live on a permanent high no drug can match.
This is really a bizarre story that I've never heard of before. Being the father of two adorable girls, it scares the crap outta me of what became of her. I really feel for the parents especially knowing the circumstances of her disappearance. Thank for giving me many sleepless nights from now on. 😟
Lol. Good point Hudson you probably not be watching these videos tho with 2 of your own. Please lock your doors even if you live in a small town. I can’t convince my siblings to lock their doors and protect my nieces cause they ‘believe in human kind”
Raise them right and you wont have to worry about them wandering off naked into the woods
@@davefletch3063that's not how young adults work.
@@davefletch3063I worry more about the kind of people they may come across. There's more weird people out there since the pandemic.
Lol. It's a serious subject but just the way you said the last part made me laugh. It's wonderful that you are such a caring Dad but you cannot be in fear. If you love your daughters, are involved in their lives, and give them wise counsel when needed, you will have nothing to fear in my opinion. All the best. 😊
It makes me feel sick to my stomach when ever I hear about people's disappearances! But I pray for them and they're families! May God bless them!!
Kyle, I have watched almost all of your videos. I just want to say that I LOVE how respectful, sincere and caring you are when discussing these stories. You're very fair in the way that you phrase difficult points that could be offensive to some, but ARE NOT because of the way you present them. Things that many of us may be thinking but don't want to belittle or judge the person who's found themself in such a tragic circumstance. On other, less serious topics/videos your sense of humor is great! Keep up the solid job you're doing and thank you for making these! 😊 Do you have a Patreon account?
back in my day walking around in the woods high as hell naked was common place and it was just in NC. I spent a year in the lower MI peninsula with a group of kids that were all very free people. it was a different time but people are people and i see alot of young folks that want to emulate those experiences.
Is your youtube name a play on the band "johnny hates jazz" if so your winning, actually your winning either way because this is a great video. Very well put together, the clips you chose are perfect, gladly subscribed.
Something is really fishy to me about this. If I was camping with someone and they stripped down and said they were gonna walk out into the woods I'd give that big ol negative. Thats not acceptable.
If you're high enough, you don't even think about what is acceptable.
Another native woman missing? This is all to often ignored and not in the media like it is for others. 😭. Great content and I hope her family and friends find the answers they deserve
Oh stop it . For all intents and purposes she's white.
