Kina & Paua Free Diving Stewart Island New Zealand

Me and my wife went sight seeing in Stewart Island for the first time. I thought Id give free diving a go, Im no Navy Seal or anything but it was my chance to show my wife who's the man. I went to the Islands Doc department first to find out where I can and cannot dive. In some areas of the island the daily take is 5 paua and 25 kina and they are very strict on this. They even offered me a measuring stick and reminded me paua are to be 125mm or more in length. To all you poaching idiots out there dont even bother comming to this island it is heavily guarded by Ministry of fisheries, the locals will also know if you are not from here and are up to no good. Also good luck with trying to get back on the ferry to South Island without having your bags checked. To all those who just enjoy free diving and taking the legeal size and limit of kaimoana, I hope you enjoy the video.

Excellent Vid man. Spent the long weekend with mates in Kaikoura doing just that however swell and vis left alot to be desired. Mate I couldn't help notice what you were using to pop the paua off. if its a paint scraper just beware that the sharp corners on that blade can cut the flesh and cause it to bleed and inevitably die. You could just round the blade off. Me and the boys all scored these orange plastic blades from MAF it also has a blackfoot measure.
