I've found a way to use the timetables that doesn't take too much time day to day. I have a morning run and an evening run at peak time and I've created a crew per run direction, so 4 crews in total and assigned each trip to them. Then the set up for the train is simply assign the correct crew to that train. Once that's done I set the passenger drop for the first carriage by clicking the copy from timetable then copy to all cars. This works fine for Whittier to Bryson. Time will tell if this is still good as I expand out.
You can see the passenger station's catchment area by opening the Company panel, Locations tab, click on Ela Station and hover the mouse over the station track name. Only one passenger car needs to be in that area for all cars to load/unload.
I've been thinking about getting this game. Your videos have been a big influence on that decision, and now they're tiding me over until I can afford it. Thanks to you and Al!
Personally I don't go for the Observation car. Even with the 20% bonus per ticket becasue the car only holds 20 passengers that;s only the equivalent of 24 normal tickets. The basic car holds 60 passengers, so if you have the passengers to fill it you can get more income from the basic car, and the car costs a lot less to buy as well. 🙂
Kerbo, if you leave the "remote" cars on the switch list they become active again when they need to be taken to interchange. Saves running around the map looking for interchange bound cars. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the longer episode! Concerning useage of timetables: Wouldn't it make a bit more sense lorewise to stick to timetables? How else would the "bigger" rail-company know, when using the main track is free to use?
Here's a few naming suggestions for other passenger lines, if you decide to run more of them: The woodchip express, The log lightning, The Woodpellet Intercity, The Firewood Line, Woodbriquette Wonder. Keeping the logging theme going here 🙂 Thanks for the video and take care.
I do better without time tables as well. Generally my freight is delivered NLT 1000-1100(thanks to AI Waypoint). I spend the remainder of the day running 3 passenger trains. Use my local engines to pick up any cars to be taken to the interchange. Run logs.
I agree with the timetable not making financial sense early on, you lose out on passengers and when just running to Ela, it's easy to manage train times manually
Oh, the mouse cursor is the bain of my cinematic shots too, I second the desire to have it temporarily disappear after 30 seconds of inactivity or whatever. I appreciate the longer video by the way, whenever I record, I always fret about the length of them, but i'll happily watch an hour of you playing
I havent been paying close attention but if you have a passenger train on a timetable do you still need to drop flares at the end of its run to stop it? Or does it just keep running between its stops
A lot of times I deal with those misplacements of cars, or overhangs, and sometimes running them in to where they have to go by pushing them manually with my character. lol It may seem like cheating, but hey, if it's in the game, is it really? 😁
What are you using to direct AL? Also the screen to see multiple trains at once for easy following? I must have missed where you talked about it. Thanks
R toggles the locomotive view to see all of your locomotives. I am on the beta branch on Steam which has an Automatic Engineer feature. I'm using waypoint mode to direct Al. I hope that helps.

I like the look of the observation car on the end. The bonus is just a nice bonus.
Like content still debating on getting the game, the patches and updates do make it more enticing

Great tip actually, thanks from me too!
i am glad i got back into this game now with the updates

Great video as usual!
I would like to see the Ela Station moved to the West side of the House Station on the Siding Track so its off the Mainline while loading/unloading.

It was fun to try but I need cash. Thanks for the comment!

The timetable has no control over the train, so nothing changes there. It's basically cosmetic.

Press 2 for the overhead camera.
There's also a fun spot on the mountain where you can see the whole lumber mill through the trees.
I figured it out after recording this. Thanks!
