  • After destroying too many tires, I tried out Nukeproof ARD tire insert this year.

    Hey Tom, I run the ARD too. The stretching problem is the result of air making its way into the insert over time (the foam is supposed to be airtight, but it's not completely). I found that once I start hearing the insert rattle, if I deflate the tires, and air them back up, the insert will shrink again and rattle much less. It's a bit of a pain, but not terrible. I try to get a ride in once a week, and I just deflate, and then reinflate, and it keeps the rattling to a minimum. 👍

      Do you leave the tire deflated for a while or do you pump it back up straight away?

      Sorry to say but i didn't work for me. The inserts keep rumbling around making that noise inside the tire.

    I'm considering trying this out but to get around the stretch, I'm going to cut a small section out and connect the ends with a zip tie like a Vittoria airliner.

  • @tomm8450
    @tomm8450 4 года назад +5

    To fix the clunking cut the insert a bit shorter and zip tie the two ends together, works perfectly

      what do you mean by zip tying the together ?

    • @johnnydoe66
      @johnnydoe66 3 года назад +1

      @@2c0ld4you5 After cutting out a small section, you join the two ends using a zip tie. Poke a small hole through each end to be able to stick the zip tie through. I have seen another video of a guy doing this.

    I also have used the ARD and my first pair did rattle due to the large diameter. I made a complain and got a new set, I think I ordered the 27.5" for my 29" rims. This worked well. I have also tried to cut the old set, glue it together, and drilled two holes on each side of the seam to enforce the seam with a couple of cable ties. The cable tie latching I have pressed in to the holes of the ARD to avoid sharp edges from the ties.That solution is still working when installed in my front tire. I have not tried it on my rear wheel yet.

    I recently installed ARD as well and been only on two rides and I noticed after washing my bike I bounce it to shake off the water and heard the same thing. I honestly thought it was something going on in the headset, but after hearing your experience now I know it was the ARD . This was very helpful on the ARD@1:39. I haven't noticed the sound on the trails yet but we have lots of rocks were crushing , rolling or them rolling past us 🤣. This was informative.

    I’m so glad I listened to the end while reading the comments. Thanks for comparing it with the HN! I have Cushcore, Vittoria Airliners and Huck Norris and my favorite one is the HN because you can’t tell that there’s insert inside the tires. The problem with the HN is that, the foam is not dense enough to protect from impacts even on slow speed (15 mph) you can dent your rims or puncture your tires. I am looking for something that’s as thin as the HN but dense like the CC foam material. Sounds like I’ll have to give this ARD a try next. Thanks for the review! 🤙

      You should probably also look into Rimpact, and see if those are right for you. Right now i've got cushcore and love them, but If my cushcore go bad, I think I may try these next.

    Bro the stretching is really easy to solve, just do the same as if you would install on a 27.5” wheel, follow the instructions, from ARD itself, basically cut refit and tight again, problem solved and that happens like in 12 months for sure, on 24 months you may need to buy a new one, just waiting my wheels to install mine.

    I don't know if you still are running ARD but you should give the Tannus Armor Tubeless a try. It is cheap than cushcore and lighter only 150g and if you believe Tannus's testing it is better than cushcore. I have been running them only for a week now and they are great so far.

      I do like their tubeless product. I'm using their over the tube product on my trail bike and I really don't like how they feel when riding. And also an update, I cracked two carbon rims recently while using ARD. I'm using cush core on my DH bike now. no problems so far.

    Hey thanks for your review. Just curious, do they stop stretching after expanding once or twice? What if i order the 27.5 ones for my 29er? Good idea or bad?

    • @shemshem9998
      @shemshem9998 4 года назад

      Kranq Aus definitely a bad idea, they will not fit or you risk ripping the entire thing in half. I have used the ARD for about 5 months and they work great, no complaints and no rattling yet, I even raced a full enduro stage with 8 psi when i punctured (sharp rocks not a snake bite) and did not seal quick enough and had no issue with the product. It is really great and what you can do when it gets too long is just cut a small part out, make two holes on each end and zip tie them together, manny rim protectors are actually ensembles this way. The people in Nukeproof put a lot of work into these products and stretching is something they could not solve otherwise they would have made them smaller. In short, bad idea,

      @@shemshem9998 Hi just both this rim protector but Im wondering if after the first stretch, do you have to cut it AGAIN and AGAIN? or is it just a one time stretch?

    • @shemshem9998
      @shemshem9998 4 года назад +1

      @@kurt0543 by the time you will have to cut it twice you will probably have had 3 new pairs of tires or even a new bike. But looking at it scientifically, there is a maximum that a material can stretch, probably after the first stretch you don't have to cut it again. But worst case scenario, the ting only cost about 25 dollars per incert so it is worth trying them out in my opinion.

    Cush Core does not absorb tyre sealant, that's not possible.

    2:25 / that seems to be a silly product, cus it has holes, does not protect the whole rim,. Cush core is Superior,
    This winter I will test Schwalbe Ice Spiker Lite Skin 2.25 with Cush Core inside, I already love the setup with Maxxis 2.3 tyres
