    Fact: Dealerships and mechanics can charge over $1,000 to put aftermarket handlebars on your Harley Davidson motorcycle. It is often times well over that amount, yet we know you can do this project yourself by watching this tutorial video. We teach you everything you will need to know and walk you through the entire process.
    In this tutorial video we install 16" ape hanger handlebars & new hand grips on a Harley Davidson Road King motorcycle. We wired the new bars internally for that clean look. This #1 rated tutorial video will not only work for the Harley Davidson Road King, but for an array of different, yet similar Harley models.
    You will not find a more thorough aftermarket handlebar install tutorial video out there. It is a video by bikers for bikers. You can put new handlebars on your Harley right in your garage or on your patio right on the kickstand! There are no specialty tools or motorcycle lifts required and I will give you a list of items you will need and things to think about later in this article.
    ***Purchase it now and stream it immediately just like a RUclips video as many times as you like! gumroad.com/l/...
    The video is high definition and it is if you can reach out and turn the wrenches with us. In this video we skip no steps and we have no doubt that after watching you can do this project with ease. Tons of bikers all over the world now have aftermarket handlebars on their Harley's because of this exact video. We are very detailed in our explanations and we want you to be successful. That is where we get our greatest satisfaction.
    There are many aftermarket handlebars for your Harley Davidson motorcycle in every shape, color, and size imaginable and the cost can vary just as much. There are many companies making quick connect/install kits. Most of these simple kits are the same and come with a bundle of colored wires for extending wire harnesses, quick connectors, and shrink tube. If you are going with taller style handlebars then the kit may also include an extended clutch cable and extended front brake lines.
    These handlebar wiring kits have quick connect pins for extending the stock wire harnesses. You usually take off the stock plastic harley wire plugs, extend the wires with the quick kit colored wires, and then plug back into the stock plugs all without soldering. You can always snip the quick connectors that come with the wire kits and solder if you are more comfortable with that.
    We can tell you from experience that you will want to have a soldering iron and solder on hand. Often times because of bulky plugs it may be necessary to solder a bit to make things clean and easy.
    Most the time you can go as tall as 12" aftermarket handlebars without having to replace wires, cables, and lines. I said, "most the time", so you need to do your own research for your particular year and model before you begin your project.
    Tools & items needed:
    *Screwdrivers (standard & phillips)
    *Torx head wrenches (standard sizes)
    *Standard box end wrenches (American & Metric)
    *Wire strippers (a pocked knife could be used instead)
    *Pliers (standard & needle nose)
    *Butane mini torch or just a standard lighter
    *Allen/Hex head wrenches (American)
    *Transmission oil (one quart)(replacement if you have to put extended clutch cable or hydraulic clutch lines on)
    *DOT 4 brake fluid (if replacing with extended brake lines)(for bleeding lines)
    *Transmission cover gasket (If you have to put extended clutch cable or hydraulic lines on)
    *A simple hand operated brake line bleeder vacuum pump
    *Basic 40W soldering iron kit
    *Solder

    one thing that should really be added to this process is to make doubly sure the bars you get will be compatible for your bike. And thats not just that they will "fit". I bought my first bars (Burly Bars) of a reseller on Amazon. The Amazon fitment checker said they were 100% match for 2010 Roadking. They "fit alright" however what they failed to mention was that they were NOT NOTCHED for Throttle By Wire! so faced with the decision, do I chop 1/2 inch off one side of the bar (because the TBW sticks out 1/2 inch) then cut into the bars to make the notches. The notches have to be precisely the right size, depth and distance apart for it to work OR send the bars to a machine shop at further cost OR send them back and get something that has the notches! So if I cut them, I can't send them back, so I sent them back. They came from Arizona. I live in Canada. Canada post quoted me $550.00 (CDN) to ship them back. So I went to UPS, who quoted me $190.10 (the bars were originally like 175US ok?) So then I had to argue with Amazon about their "AtoZ Guarantee" but they would not cover shipping! They blamed it on the seller who was a "third party" not having mentioned in the description "NOT FOR USE ON TBW motorcycles". I had to get a higher tier agent who finally agreed to reimburse the shipping. They sent me an email saying the would, so I went ahead, paid 190.10 to ship the bars back to arizona. Still haven't seen the credit on my account after 10 days (and counting). Then I had to buy new bars with the proper notches and pay shipping again! All this could have been avoided had the original seller noted in the description "NOT FOR USE ON TBW motorcycles".

    There are a few important things to keep in mind when you put apes on your bikes. First, anything taller than 12 inches will require wire extensions for the controls, new clutch, and brake cables, and if you "fly by wire" those as well, and don't forget a can of brake fluid. At this point, you could be $200.+ into the job and still didn't buy your bars yet! Next, is the bars themselves. The selection is vast and overwhelming. If you want to do this job for less than say $500. I would stay away from designer bars by the big names. There are many companies that offer great looking bars for right around $200. The bars with the 90-degree bend in them look great but can be difficult to fish wires through, believe me. Thickness, how fat do you want your bar to be? If your doing this on a Dyna, or a Road King go with a fatter bar because they are in full view 1 1/4 inch has a nice look to it. If you have an Ultra or a Road Glide you can get away with a thinner bar. Be sure the bars a notched for internal wiring and knurled where they clamp on to the tree.

    hi Ryan, thanks for the video. How do you know whether to go for 14 or 16" bars? I have a 2010 Roadking. Im 6ft 3" tall. The stock bars make me slouch over and hurt my back after a few hrs riding. I put a stick and measuring tape to try to figure out whether I need 14 or 16s but its hard to tell since they are only 2inches apart. I know the taller they are, the kewler they are but also don't want hands above shoulder height. Im also planning to switch the stock "tractor seat" for something lower and kewler which would make the bars higher.

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  5 лет назад

    Hey Ryan, i bought the Road King handlebar install vid from your site and was curious if this bike was ABS, and if so isnt it necessary to have the dealer bleed the brakes? Ive been worried about this cuzz alot of people say the dealer has to do it with a program.

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  6 лет назад

      The Road King was not an ABS bike. But we have done several handlebar jobs on ABS. There is nothing special about ABS a far as the fluid is concerned. You can bleed it yourself. We use a Mitivac power bleeder to bleed the brakes.

    Why Electra glide/Street Glide bars on a road king? The bend is to contour the faring. Looks awkward.

      We always say each rider to their own. You get to stylize your bike the way you want. Other riders have different tastes. Otherwise all bikes would look the same. Ride safe.

    hey Ryan, I bought your Roadking Ape installation video. gumroad.com/l/roadkinghandlebars. I was on my desktop but want to watch it on my (android) tablet in the garage, so I copied the link but cannot seem to play it. Any ideas?

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  5 лет назад

      If you're using Android, then that is the problem. They get tons of malware and it's well known. We have also found it to likely be your particular Internet Service Provider (ISP) and/or their server in certain cases. We sell many videos worldwide and most Android devices play the videos just fine. This is isolated to you and your device right now. Try using a different tablet.
      Additionally, if you simply search "Andorid Error Loading Player. No Playable Source Found" in Google and RUclips, you'll quickly see the overwhelming amount of articles and issues with Androidreference this error when playing videos in many places online. It seems that you need to install or update Adobe Flash Player? It is an Android device problem or if you are on a PC, you may not have Adobe Flash Player installed or it needs to be updated. Some have had luck trying a different web browser.

    Dude, this video was lame and a waste of time! If you're interested in pointers on handlebar installation, this video will NOT assist you. Its a click bait advertisement. It does Not offer any Informative value on HB install
    and its NOT A TUTORIAL. Ita a advertisement disguised as an actual tutorial. It's deceptive to the viewers in order to generate revenue. To the creator, no need to be greedy, cut the BS click bait!😢
