In answer to my own question, after having a think about this in the shower I think I can replace the inverter and transistor output stage on TH with a single reverse-biased diode (keep it simple!) and as we don't care about the state of the initial player 1/player 2 multiplexer when the guns are disabled I think I can use the spare multiplexer on the second TL-selected chip to select between TR/TH and use that as the selection input to that first multiplexer, then use the spare multiplexer on that chip as an inverter (tie the 0 input high and the 1 input low) - I think that will produce a two-chip solution, but will need to try that out. :)

Hi! I am from Brazil and found your site via sega-16 forum. I have an blue justifier gun and i was wondering if it would be possible to wire a sms light phaser to the 2nd gun port on the base of the blue justifier gun. Here on Brazil i can't find a pink gun to buy one...
Hi, thanks for your comment! As far as I know it should be possible to do though you'll also need to wire a separate button in for "Start". www.markwylie.ca/2015/02/sega-konami-justifier-hack-convert.html has details for modifying a second blue gun but the Master System Light Phaser could be used instead as it has the same signals present (aside from that extra start button). I don't have a detailed schematic for such an adaptor, though, hopefully you can figure it out but if not let me know and I'll see if I can sketch something out!
