Liner Notes:
"New Year's Day" was on the set list of the first gig I ever performed with a band in 1985, when I was in 9th grade. My band "Infra-Red" performed this at our 9th grade "going away" party, celebrating our junior high graduation. I had the dubious honor of singing lead vocals on this song, among other difficult songs ("Tom Sawyer" comes to mind). Let's just say there was a lot of falsetto involved. Thankfully my voice has evolved since then. I still remember our drummer, Scott Slusher, introducing this song: "This song is for all of you who like something a little...different. This is U2." Yes, U2 was considered "different" back in the day, and oh how I loved them for it. And still do!
My first memories of "War" are from my sister Michele adoring the album and listening to it while playing "quarters" with her high school friends. My parents allowed drinking at our house, apparently, so our backyard patio was the place to be. It was the 80's, so don't judge.
This is the first recording from what we dubbed the "War Project." We plan to tackle "Bad" next (which isn't from "War", but who's counting). I look forward to bringing you more remote collaborations with the guys from "Rattle and Hum", a Salt Lake-based U2 tribute band that I met when I lived in SLC. In fact, Phil is a fellow attorney, and if you've been paying attention, you've seen him on other U2 covers on my channel (known as "The Phil") live from the Pie. Phil, Ty, Cam and I performed an acoustic-ish U2 set at the Irish pub "Piper Down" in SLC under the name "Achtung Babies," so this isn't our first time working together. I look forward to our future collaborations.
My guitar is an Ovation Custom Legend, made in the U.S.A. I'm an Ovation-sponsored artist: ovationguitars.com/artists
The band:
Phil Wormdahl: guitar
Tyler Johnson: bass
Cameron Curtis: drums
Mike Massé: vocals, piano

Perfect👍👍👍
I spent 9 Yrs as "The Edge" with Under A Blood Red Sky. Great Job!!
In Denver? I know Jeff LaQuatra. 👍 I knew Billy, too (RIP).
@@mikemasse I was the original Edge. After I left there were a few others. Jeff was the last one.
@@TedGravlin some of the UABRS guys came and met up with us at Piper Down in Salt Lake several years ago. Remember that, Mike?
mike ! that was fantastic ! it's good to see you playing piano again ! i also like how "the phil" was playing a gibson explorer like "the edge" + had u2 on his t.v. in the background.
thank you again so much for all the live-stream shows you've done over the last year in these crazy times. i've been following you since the pizza pie days + watching your live-streams fairly regularly since about show 50. show 100 was absolutely epic + the lennon show, the genesis + floyd shows were also fantastic + amazing. your live chat regulars are also really cool.
i discovered u2 in 1985 too in high school. i college at u.f. i'd play at open mic nights + some of the songs i'd play were "under the milky way", "rainbird", "no new tale to tell", "youth" + "rhinestone cowboy" so i love it when you play those.
anyway, i'm really looking forward to the u2 show tonight with just you + bryce. i really like the more stripped down acoustic covers of the songs you play both solo + with bryce, rock, scott + kurt. ( thanks to tim for great mixes + production. ) i also hope you'll still keep doing the live streams every now + then once things get back to normal. --- looking forward to your future covers + hope to see maybe an all beatles show + maybe an all radiohead show someday. : p --- ( but take it easy - you've been busy these last few weeks working on the floyd + u2 shows. ) thanks again for everything you've been doing ! as ringo says : peace + love ..... : )
Fantástic.

"War" is one of the best albums I ever bought back in 1983 and Live in Red Rocks is superb *except "Oh maybe the time is right" which was too high to sing it and they skipped it...but you didn't. Great job, thanks for sharing!!!
