after playing for so many years, it's easy to forget how things used to be. for example, we're so used to making charcoal if we don't have coal, but it was added in beta 1.2. (btw you were looking at coal multiple times, it was probably just dark and the texture is more subtle)
Ah yes the clumsiness of the old inventory. clicking I to open and manually clicking each location in the crafting grid to place an item… the good old days indeed :)

I tried really hard to make charcoal work lol, I can't believe I missed coal!!!

It was fun to see how frustrating Minecraft was at first! I started playing around the time they added redstone, I think.
I did have a lot of fun figuring out things as well. I do appreciate some of the more modern Minecraft conveniences though!
