Honestly, I think many people forget how insane some of those performances were. He got eight, yes fucking eight, medals. 3 sprints, 2 TT's, 1 punchy uphill finish, a successful attack on a 'sprint stage' and a mountaintop finish that he only lost because he had to help Vingegaard secure yellow. Not even mentioning the fact that he essentially saved the Tour for Vingegaard on stage 5, and then went in the attack all day on stage 6 (it didn't work, but was still exceptionally impressive). I think he is the only rider that can take both the green and mountain jerseys in one tour.
As impressive as Vingegaard’s victory over Pogacar was, I think most people will remember first and foremost WVA performance, which rarely happens, especially if the GC winner beats out a guy who’ll probably end up being one of the GOATs.
Jonas won the yellow Jersey, but in my opinion Wout won the tour. What he did on a day to day basis was other worldly and made watching very very exciting
World top TT - world top sprinting - worldtop cyclocross - world top climbing - tourettapes anny level - won lots and lots of classic and dayraces. 1 class teamplayer, Wout brought Vingegaard a lot of times back to the front of the peleton the tour vingegaard won !! In belgium alone wout have millions of fans . Even people who are not interested in cycling know Wout... He is just a fantastic guy . Belgium loves Wout !
Wout Van Aert is one of the best in almost every discipline in road cycling...the only disciplin where he is really the best is uphil sprint...but yes he is monster cyclist and alongside Pogacar,Van der Poel,Roglic and Vingegaard best in the peleton
Not many riders winning cyclocross, classics/monuments, + tour de france sprint stages, mountain stages and time trials. Has to be up there with the best all round riders
@@roxor8015 have you even seen the video? He won the Mont Ventoux stage 2021 TdF? And last year he dropped Tadej uphill while pacing for Jonas Vingegaard in TdF, but yeah, can’t climb 😅

My fav is 2023 UCI World Cup Zonhoven; I really wished I was there. Wout is the best, wishing him to win in this year's Ronde.
This man is uncredible strong in every race. I admire him for his universal skills and extreme power, mental strength. I wish him this year to win big classics, he deserves it!👍👍😉😉
Amazing! WVA is probably my favorite right now! I would be curious to ask him how he became all-arounder, and how each cycling abilities (sprint, climbing, TT, CC, etc.) influence and help his other abilities for him (how CC influence his sprint for eg., etc.).
I'd say CX gave him the explosivity to produce high-torque, the resistance to fatigue from all out efforts in harsh conditions and without food or water, also the bike-handling. I heard him say he had to do big changes to his training so he could do longer efforts. He was apparently relying almost exclusively on glucose and had to do big blocs of zone 2 to develop his ability to use fat. I guess this gave him a great aerobic foundation below his existing base, making him great on long climbs and TT as well since he is a big boy. From there he'd be able to use his glucose metabolism to support even greater intensities. This combined with the explosivity necessary for CX made him a great sprinter at ease in long, high-speed sprints. And also the sauce is likely be top-notch at Jumbo, as in other top teams
ROAD cycling greatest all-rounder, what a legend and such a big inspiration. Cycling's greatest all-rounder might be Pidcock: road, CX and MTB, he's amazing at all. Honorable mention for MvdP, and road- and track-powerhouse Ganna.
You are forgetting that MvDP is better than Pidcock on Road, with this i mean that his victories are more high profile, he is better at cyclo cross and when they meet on MTB track MvDP more often than not also beats him. In Tokyo MvDP feel, he was number one favourite. And Pidcock's cyclo cross world title in USA last year was possible because WvA and MvDP didnt want to travel there; Pidcock would be the first to admit that yss, he won, but there has never been a question he is not really on par with them.
Amazing wins overall all. And the one in Diegem was also amazing in the night event. Too bad he’s always 2nd in the races that matter (WC, Olympics, RVV). Let’s see how it goes this Sunday at the RVV
I believe than once Tadej, Wout and Mattieu are battling it out with the three of them, Tadej has actually never won. He's an insanely talented cyclist, but in cyclecross, classics, sprinting Wout and/or Mattieu beat him. Tadej obvously being the best in the high mountains and stages races (if they include decent climbs).
He is definitely not the Greatest All-Rounder in road race. Mercks and Hinault are better deserved, and even Pogacar. The reason WVA won the Ventoux stage (btw not a Ventoux summit stage) is that he was not a GC contender and the peloton didn't chase him. Otherwise, he got no chance to win the stage.
Yeah, but Jonas is no slough either. I think that they are willing to allow each other big wins. That's the beautiful thing of it. Wout will never be a grand tour winner, he's a stage winner and - amazingly given his will to win - a Super Domestique (just watched stage 6 of TdF2023).
If he gets podium or win this Sunday there'll be no doubt. And hopefully one day he'll ride Roubaix, if he does good in that race there won't be any possible doubt
I'd argue that Van Aert is a better climber than Pogacar is a sprinter. I understand the reason to choose Pogacar with his GC capabilities, but no one can deny Wout can be a threat on any terrain.
per me Van Aert è molto piu forte sotto tutti i punti di vista di Vingegard stanno facendo lo stesso errore con Dumoulin quando avevano puntato tutto su Roglic
