- Talk’s Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by political commentator Russell Quirk who slams the stigma around talking about immigration.
Nigel Farage said he wants to lead a “political revolt” against the Conservatives and Labour after announcing he will seek to become an MP at the General Election.
Mr Farage will contest Clacton, in Essex, after it was also announced that he will take over as leader of Reform UK from Richard Tice.
The former MEP had spent several days making clear he would not make an eighth bid to become an MP and instead would support Reform by campaigning across the country.
But Mr Farage, who has failed in his previous seven attempts to be elected to the Commons, said he had felt a “terrible sense of guilt” over the weekend and decided to make a U-turn.

I, and most others who lent the Tories our vote in 2019 will not vote for them again. The thought of Sunak, Hunt, Cameron, Cleverly, and others continuing what they have been doing, horrifies me just as much Labour being in government does, so I'm voting with my head and heart this time.

I fear Starmer will sink this country. Let’s face it, it was Tony Blair who opened the door and said “Come on in, all welcome” way back when and Starmer will do just the same. Reform might get many voters (I was gonna vote Reform) but this time it will be futile as it will not be enough to overthrow Labour as many will still vote Tory, so Reform won’t get in, good as it would be.

I agree with everything you're saying, but as Nigel Farage said, Labour will win, regardless. By voting for Reform, it will be making a statement, by voting Conservative , it will let Labour anyway as they don't have the numbers either. They have been as much of a disaster as Labour have been in the past and will be this time. Unfortunately, people like us will have wait until 2029, it seems. In the meantime, I'm going to support Reform because they are the only ones speaking for me.

Time for Reform
After the war many Poles, my father included, came to this country and the US. Both countries also have had a fair influx of Chinese and Vietnamese migrants. All these, and other nationalities, have been an asset to their adoptive countries. However migrants from certain countries, and with certain beliefs, are nothing but bad news. Sweden, the UK, and Ireland bear irrefutable testimony to this. Telling the truth doesn't make you racist.

Same for council housing and benefits but I would go further and say you have to be a 2nd generation immigrant with no criminal record.
The law in Thailand and a lot of Asian countries your not allowed to own any land, you will never be a citizen unless your pockets are very deep and can prove ancestral links, you will never be able to vote even if you are married working contribute to the economy for decades you will always be a foreigner. Time for some reciprocation.

Actually, and this is going to be hard to grasp , I accept, but try....Housing and feeding Asylum seekers in hotels is FREE. All the money leaves the government, goes to hotels who first pay 20% straight back to the government in vat. The other 80% goes to local staff in wages who pay tax & NI straight back to the government. The business pays business rates straight back to the government. The hotel buys stock from British businesses whose staff pay tax & NI back to the government. Whatever is left , the profit made by the hotel and its suppliers gets taxed and goes straight back to the government. The money just gets passed around and at every stage the government gets a proportion back until eventually it's all back and then they pay it out again and it all starts over. That's how economies work. The ONLY time anything costs anything is if the money actually leaves the UK. Until then , like with Asylum seekers accommodation it's just a question of circulation. Stop all work visas to force employers to pay the right wages to British workers and we would not have any vacancies because we would actually want to do those jobs.
I am not working for minimum wage slaving while someone drives big cars and posh houses etc, I am not a slave.
And I agree with you, they need to pay better wages. Manual labor is just as hard as high paid jobs in a different way.

Nigel Farage has a Nigel Farage effect. Unlike many other political leaders, he says what he means.
Why not face the truth? If Britain were the democracy it’s supposed to be, mass immigration (particularly of the kind we have suffered) would never have happened. And if we really did have “free speech” we would be talking about immigration much more than we do.
Just because we have elections it doesn’t make what we are told it makes.

@@peterholden3672 It was to end the loophole being exploited, this "freedom of movement" in the EU, which is still being used as a way to flood Europe and UK with unwanted people. Nobody voted to flood the country with muslim men. Seeing policemen stabbed in Germany by fake afghan "asylum seeker" two days ago and the many number of terrorist attacks (here and in the EU) doesn't really sell freedom of movement very well.

That won't work unless the UK can fill the skilled labour gaps. Migrants bring skills, perspective and experience that the UK cannot supply. My employer recruits from all over the world and it's a benefit to the industry I work in.

I could've bought a decent house in the noughties... and yes it is population growth driven by immigration which is the problem. I've worked in the housing market for the last 10 years, so would know the drivers.
Plus most of the housing is being subsidised, why on earth should it be? Come here to earn the wages on offer, not expect housing benefits and tax credits whilst employers use our infrastructure, public services an NHS without contributing towards it. REFORM.

So called landlords buying up properties en masse on credit is my personal pet hate. It should be banned. Only first time buyers should have credit available to purchase homes.
Likewise, we struggle to build new houses. Supply simply doesn't keep up with demand, pushing the prices beyond reach for most and making them unaffordable for most.
The level of taxation is extortionate at the moment. Building regulations are excessive and paperwork takes too much.
It's all wider issues than no political party can see at the moment, and so I expect it will all get worse no matter who gets into number 10.

That's so stupid. If they cut taxes for both people and businesses, how are they going to fund NHS and schools?
Zero net migration will still be too high because a substantial percentage of emigrants will be British. By including Britons in the overall net number the country will continue down the demographic replacement route but only at a slower rate. Migration numbers of Britons and non-brits should be kept separate.
This is our country not an economic zone to be filled by all and sundry. The culture war will cause a lot of collateral damage unfortunately in the coming years unless we start dealing with the problem now.
Wages can be so crappy nowadays that the lowest paid have no money left after they have forked out for their bills. It is right to expect people who can work to go to work but working should make people better off. People should not be working just merely to exist. Working should be spiritually and financially rewading experience.
Also, make employers pay immigrants what they would pay native British people. Take away enployers' incentives for hiring migrant workers
