With a "coming out" party, I assume that CC meant it was her coming of age party.
In Jane Austen's day, when a girl was "out", it meant that she was able to socialise, attend public events, balls, etc., albeit with a chaperone if she was unmarried. It was especially popular among the middle and higher classes. Since CC's family is super rich, she was probably allowed to mix with New York's super elite and rich when she "came" of age.
I'm pretty sure that's what C.C. meant, but Fran didn't know what that meant. That's the joke. Lol

Good eye! I wonder if it came from a deleted scene which would have provided some context as to why there was a completely different coat? Those are 2 vastly different looking coats, it seems unlikely no one on set would have noticed the difference.

I mean, on the one hand I know there are a lot of liars out there... but her comments about his actions were so full of such raw honesty that it's pretty much impossible to imagine that she made it up or misunderstood the moment (and how do you "misunderstand" someone's tongue in your ear?).
Especially since her focus was on how they had apparently had these great conversations that week and then he went and did that. Wallace Shawn did himself no favors with the manner in which he denied it, either. Not cool.

i know there was this “hangout” at disneyland (mostly for teens and young adults) in the 80s i believe that prohibited any gay activity, like two girls dancing together. defunctland did an episode on it but i cant remember what its called.
