Ranged top laners have a huge advantage of being able to poke and harass their lane opponents, their downside is being very squishy usually and often times immobile. Playing against a Ranged top laner if you don't have mobility is hell without jungle support punishing them, Briar is playing exactly as they should early, especially since their bot is winning so hard. It may be annoying, but that's the price you pay for picking a Ranged top.
LP is short for "League Points." You always have an amount of LP between 0-100, and you either win or lose some LP depending on if you win or lose your match. When you reach 100 LP, you promote to your next division (say from Iron 2 to Iron 1) and if you hit 0 LP and lose some more, you will demote down a rank (say from Iron 2 down to Iron 3). Players at the top rank of the server can keep earning past 100 LP, but for everyone else, their full rank is expressed [Rank] [Division] [0-100 LP] or in the Smolder's case, "Iron 2, 41 LP" MMR is a hidden value called your "Matchmaking Rating," and you can't see it, but Riot Games calculates this value and uses it to determine how much LP you win or lose in a match. If you are, on average, playing way better than your current rank, your MMR will be considered high, and you will play against higher ranked players, and also earn a lot of LP per win while losing much less LP per loss. This is so it's faster and easier to reach your "correct" rank. The same goes in the opposite direction, if you're playing really poorly. ELO is a competitive ranking system most famously used to determine chess rankings. It is no longer used in this game, though it used to be, and some older players still use the term ELO in place of MMR, in the same way that they'll oftentimes call the armored shoes "Tabis" from when they used to be called Ninja Tabis, even though officially they're now called Plated Steelcaps. MMR is not calculated in the same way as ELO, though they're pretty similar, and serve the same basic function, so conflating the two isn't a big deal. Hope that helps!
