Well deserved display of love for Ray Longo. I've personally been a fan of MMA since Machida vs Evans. I remember once I saw Weidman topple Anderson Silva twice, I learnt about the legendary Ray Longo and Matt Serra, which prompted me to learn Matt Serra had also upset GSP before I become a fan. Incredible. This fight camp intrigued me; Ray Longo had an incredible eye for champion material and the atmosphere his team provided for the incoming potential were able to cultivate some of the biggest underdog victories in MMA history. Til this day you have incredible fighters coming out there with fantastic results. Serra vs GSP Weidman vs Silva 1 & 2 Al Iaquinta went 5 rounds with Khabib ffs who does that? Aljo vs Yan 2 Merab the cardio machine is just around the corner. Truly Legendary. Hespect. 🤝❤
I flew from ireland and Trained at Serra Longo in Strong Island back in 2017.... I swear to gawd, what you see here, is what you get! They're incredibly giving, intelligent and caring! Serra literally knows everyone's name and their whole life story after a few days. He shows up to EVERY session, acknowledges every person in the building personally! He's just the most genuinely good person! Longo is a fucking GENIUS! He could blindfold you and talk you through a fight, it's like he's in there with you. He makes the most incredible subtle reads of opponents, recognises length, power and direction of strikes just from muscle twitches... Felt like I learned more about striking from 3 weeks with Ray, than I EVER did in 17 years of kickboxing, kenpo and jeet kune do between here in dublin and The Hague or Eindhoven in Holland. And Merab is the exact same too, he's just so intelligent and vicious when it comes to that Georgian/North-Eastern European style of pugilism! Also Serra will bring newbies for a slice of pizza, never say no! And if you make a joke at his expense, he will collar tie you into a hug and squeeze the life outta ya! 😂
Wow, I have much more respect now for Matt Serra knowing he got KOed when he fought Shoni Carter. Matt could have left Ray Longo and trained with another coach but he stuck it through unlike the fighters today, they like to bounce around to different coaches and gyms. Big Respect to Ray Longo also. He is a great coach!!!!
Better get on that Longo min son. He is definitely one of the best coaches in MMA. He's brought me so many insane memories...just with how he coaches and believes in his fighters.
I remember how kind this man was when I first stepped into his gym myself to train mittwork 1on1 with one with one of his fighters….he complimented me on my mittwork like the 2nd day in…will never forget that. Ray Longo is the best.
