I had my brand new X1 M35i for a total of 6 weeks then got rid of it. Essentially it’s the same drivetrain and interior as the X2. I’d urge anyone thinking of these cars to go for a test drive before placing an order. The car doesn’t feel like a BMW to drive. Constant iDrive 9 issues are a pain in the neck. Roll back when driving off. Hesitation when pulling out. I changed to an M240i and couldn’t be happier.

I'm glad you're able to drive cars that are over priced so people with limited funds do not waste their money. I noticed that you shot this over two days.
How can you not understand what BMW is doing here? They are targeting the X1/X2 to a younger market (first time buyers). What does the younger market want? Cool factors. This is their first BMW so all of the traditional things don’t matter. Real BMW enthusiasts on the other hand won’t look at this at all. They’ll instead wait on a real M model, like the upcoming X3M. Edit; also you didn’t notice that the X1/X2 does not run the same iDrive as other BMW’s. It’s iDrive9 (which is slower, confusing, I know) made just for the X1/X2 only. Other BMW’s are running iDrive8 or 8.5.
The dual clutch is used because the engine has longitudinal displacement instead of transversal displacement as M3 and above. So the torque converter transmission won't fit. This car has the Mini platform of front wheel drive.
Despite this not being a “Real M BMW”, I think it would be an awesome daily driver with some M flare, I think it doesn’t look bad either, although I would probably choose the X1 over this
when you were describing the performance and driver feedback, it seemed as though you were describing the car in comfort mode (numb, soft) or were you in sport mode?
Well, I currently have a BMW X5 G05 (2022), I got it for 91'800 EUR, since the warranty is running out next year, I will be selling it and getting a new car. Right now, the same spec X5 would cost me roughly 125'000 EUR. Long story short, car industry is in a gigantic bubble and eventually it will pop. So for the next 2 years until the 2027 X5 comes out, i'll be getting the X1 M35i, because i'm not going to overpay that much for something that is just inflated in price for no reason. So this is the perfect option. Also X3 kitted out costs like a basic X5

I don’t think it’s related and it’s not the same issue but it’s related to music. I don’t use Spotify, but whenever I use Apple Music on android or RUclips music on CarPlay the music will randomly just stop. Changing the volume does nothing. Doesn’t happen when using Apple Music on CarPlay, or RUclips music on android. And I don’t use other music apps so I don’t know if it would happen with those.
I live in PA USA and I 'ordered' a Vegas Red X2 M35i with every available package and option. Almost looks like the one in the video, but with different 20" wheels. A bit over 60K USD and what I thought, given all the hype, was a bargain. Shifted down a notch from my fully-equipped X3 M40i. Ordered early December 2023. No information available on its build and delivery status until early May, when my dealer informed me that the model (?), my configuration (?), any X2 (?), would NOT be provided to customers in the US. No information from BMW area or corporate reps as to the reason. I checked dealer inventories from Boston to LA and found only a few low-end "lot cars" - mainly non-Ms, a few half-equipped Ms. Except the one in the video. Does anyone know what's going on? A flaw found at the last moment? Baltimore? Robots on strike? Well, if I order another Bimmer. it'll be a 2025 X3 M50, so I can go down to my home state and pick it up. No ocean to cross. But now, given this review, maybe the right thing happened by fate...
the trans is a good thing, it will be used in the m135 overseas and new m235. the only thing that hold those cars back against the competition is the transmission being a fwd slushbox that cant be upgraded like its rwd counterparts, the dct will likely fix that issue. the b48e its so much more capable than the engine on the golf r.
Y’all just comment without knowing what you’re talking about. BMW have used an Aisin sourced 8 speed torque converter on the FWD platform based cars however it was not as good as the ZF 8 speed used on RWD based platforms.
It's not breaking the "rules" - it's an evolution of BMW's design language. Most new M-sport (not full M) vehicles will have 4 round tailpipes. I have had dozens of BMWs (I'm very old), and the iDrive knob not being included is disappointing, but the intention is that you will use voice to make changes and the penny pinchers (oops, I meant financial managers), will save a few cents. Finally, after speaking with several German engineers at the 2024 CES in Las Vegas, they told me the X2 was NOT designed for the English speaking market. However, as it's so similar to the X1, which is designed for North America and Europe, why not offer this as well? There is no transmission option that BMW could have put into this vehicle with the B-48 engine. The decision was made because the DCT is smaller and fits into the space allocated for it. It also provides better fuel mileage when mated to the B-48. Finally, it's actually cheaper for BMW to use a DCT than an automatic. Too bad, as the combination of AS/S and clutch engagement make moving off the line in any mode other than SPORT mode almost dangerous. There's at least a 3/4 of a second delay. Totally disagree with your handling comments, having driven both on a track - not a true M for sure, but handles well. No problem getting to the "Sport Plus" mode, either. If you're looking for "Maximum performance" then you should likely be looking at a true M vehicle. Having written all of the above, sharing your opinion is what makes any review interesting.
BMW is far superior to Audi and Mercedes-Benz within the same price range and options-that's a fact. I currently own a 2022 X3 Competition and a 2022 BMW M4 Competition. Both vehicles are top-tier in performance and quality. I consider them sports car killers.

@@zx6guy You're right, they have not explicitly stated that there won't be 7Ms. But I tend to employ common sense. The X7 platform has been out for 5+ years. And the 7-series sedan has been out since the 70s. It didn't take BMW decades to introduce M versions of the 3, 5 or 6 series models after their introduction. And that's because it was always their intent to release an M3, M5 and M6 :)
Nah sorry but your wrong too actually in 2022 at the launch of BMW M2 the BMW M CEO stated that all M Performance/M Lite cars will now come with quad exhausts and this is one of the bunch if they stick with what he stated going forward.

The X1 and X2 are very very very cheap models..yes it has a “M” on it but this is literally for those who don’t have enough to get a real BMW M but still want a vehicle with the BMW logo…kinda like an IPhone SE. I recently visited the plant where they make this car and its parts are very very different than like an X3, X4-X7 etc..I voiced my concerns and this is what I was told..essentially this is a cheap BMW..it’s not meant to be an X6 M..it’s literally just a lil push up from the X2. No one really views the X2 and X1 in the same way they view X5 and X6. With that said..I’m still glad they offer an “M” version of their cheaper model

Back in the day, the 3 Series was the go-to for young professionals. They drove EXTREMELY well, too. Look at the line up, 20 years ago. 325i and 330i. Nothing on the market could touch those two.
4 exhaust pipes on a 2l 4-cylinder is extremely cringe, price tag for this little shitbox is ever cringier
reliability = 0
durability = 0
value 4 money = 0
shit bmw
*Shrug* My wife enjoys hers.
Half sec slower than last gen, enough said.
Yikes
What would we all do with that half second we’ve saved, answers below……
@@rojen8571drive on canyon roads with short straights and that half second becomes really appreciated when attempting to overtake someone.
No option to trim off start stop and putting a M35i badge on a 4 banger is pass for me.
It’s getting M kit because they are not going to make full M versions of these cars…
No that’s not the reason, normalise reserving your comments on things you don’t know. New X3M50i and X4M50i replacing the M40i will get quad exhausts and there will be full M versions of both
@@ntabenivuyolwethu5833 I believe he meant M versions of the U10/U11 platform. (X1/X2)
30k worth of car for 59k.
Show me a better car in this pricerange then
I need to earn more money so bad already lol
Car makers are out of touch with their customers
This wasn't a step in the right direction for the M brand
True
If you need an X1, buy an X3 lol
iDrive 8 sucks.
Good this has idrive9
Expecting to make money by reducing costs and producing ugly cars... I would like to say this will not work, but somehow BMW continues to increase its sales.
You got a problem
What color's your X2?
Not really, you get what you pay for! Don’t miss the final outcome of the whole exercise? remember, what you’re getting here is exactly, and precisely what you’ve ordered,
Will be built with extreme quality and exacting standards of course. Not to brag, but I’ve owned six BMWs, four of which I was able to drive on the autobahn in their natural habitat. Nothing like it!
I've owned multiple Beamers as well. This just doesn't have that tight engineering I've come to expect
UKL platform M cars are a complete rip-off.
❤❤❤❤
Its been repeatedly stated there will be no X1 or X2M hence the exhaust, seats, ect. Do your homework or stay away from car reviews.
There's no 7 series M or X7M and yet the M-Sport versions don't have special sport seats or quad exhaust pipes... I've done my homework 😉
@@CarswithMiles And can you cite where an engineer or design team member has stated explicitly there will be no 7Ms? Sorry bud, but nice try.
@@sirsilva7079The 2025 BMW M440i was revealed earlier this year and doesn't have quad exhaust tips. What am I missing here?
Hater you must understand that is a entry level M, your whole review ar like your trying a X5 M, be more accurate when you do a review. This is a stupid review because you dont understand the segment of this car and the cost.
Come on! Don't be a slave to rules. Progress means we try to break rules to make things better. Having said that, I'm not a fan of this car. Breaking rules is not the problem here. It is just irredeemably ugly. No one would find it desirable. Also, the way it drives is really bad.
The X1 and X2 are highly valued cars, especially when it comes to performance. They stand out against competitors in the same price range and with similar options. I wouldn't even call them affordable. These models surpass most of their rivals.
@@GoBrand0n I disagree..but that’s me..I prefer my 2023 Kia sportage over my X1..it had a much better driving experience..and was thousands upon thousands cheaper..thankfully I no longer have the X1..I have a X4 M40I now and it’s prob my fav BMW I’ve had
@@SundayVibesmusic Whatever makes you happy and fits your budget is great. However, I'm telling you that the X1 and X2 are far superior to Japanese or Korean vehicles in the same class.
@@GoBrand0n like I said I hated the X1. Also I’ve worked for BMW for years building and designing our models and future releases so I don’t say this from an outside perspective..but I’m glad people like the X1 I just think it’s way too overpriced for what you get
This review is ridicules. Probably you have a lot of money and only you should enjoy M products. Not the average people that can buy X1 & X2.
This is why Mercedes is a better choice.😊
I'd definitely rather have the equivalent AMG
Absolutely! 😊
This is why EV's are winning
Are they? Lol
EVs loosing big time in my opinion, have you seen their resale values ?
EV's huh? Gigantic computers or IPads with wheels and some doors. Congrats on giving thousands of dollars of your hard earned money for software and its updates. Soul less machines, if you wanna call them that, taking away from the driving experience and enjoyment in order to save a few bucks.
