I moved here in April from New York. Here my pros and cons:
pros: no traffic literally none. I have been here also in the winter and didn't think it was anything to worry about. Not compared to any big cities up north.
Nature: really beautiful and I do think there are changes in season, of course not like up north. But my garden changes constantly and the sheer amount of natural beauty and wildlife is amazing
Cons: flaky people. Good luck getting a contractor or just about anyone who keeps his word and shows up. Never mind on time. For someone like me who likes to get stuff done, very frustrating.
Slow: if you're not old or retirement age, it will be a huge SLOOWING down. Its so slow here. That takes getting used to and it is boring often.
Mosquitos: tons of those all the time. The heat is also quite oppressing. But now is summer so its to be expected...

That a realtor could say that living in St Petersburg is affordable is ironic, indeed! Housing in in the area is very expensive. Even more so when the age of the housing is considered. There aren't many new residential houses because the peninsula is fully developed. There is no vacant land suitable for development. One has to pay more and receive an older house. This is true of course of condominium units as well. As a retirement center, many residents live in condos. The construction of the condos, mostly two stories or levels but up to five stories is wooden. The exteriors may be cinder block or various sidings. The block usually does not go above the first story. Most condos do not require carpeted floors, and living under a heavy footed neighbor is not fun. The units are small; two bedrooms are generally smaller than 900 sq ft. St Petersburg is fine for a winter escape from the cold, but it is crowded, housing is limited and expensive, traffic is awful, roads and sidewalks (where they exist) are poorly maintained, and the bus system is for the low income resident who cannot afford a car and the auto insurance. The politics is in the hands of "conservatives", which means controlled by local tradesmen, realtors, insurance predators, "learned" professionals, and military contractors. No state income tax means the taxes are paid from sales and real estate taxes (in your rent!), and high fees for every local service. There was, once upon a time, a tax on intangibles (stocks and bonds), but the wealthy did away with that!

i lived in clearwater st.pete for 8 years. starting back in 2001. and it was great, st pete was still very much a sleepy town, and i saw it grow to what it is today. its a very nice place to live. a nice place to just jump in your car and take a drive top down. food is great, good diversity and authentic. cant say much about its schooling systems say for kids but i know its better than much of the east coast of florida. its a town you will love. seriously. caters to your quality of life. and easy on your pockets. And theirs access to everything. the drives to the larger cities say like orlando and miami are a distance, but after a few trips back and forth the journey in your head shortens. so short to the point youl take trips just from being bored and wanted to get out for a bit. Traffic can be bad at times, but in the past few years, St.pete has elevated much of its highway system. so what use to get backed up due to street light traffic is now a thing of the past. BUT if theirs say an accident then the highways can quickly get conjested and rubberneck. the accident being long gone before the rubberkneck dissipates. As for weather Yes it does get really hot, but you can go year round top down. the heat you will get use too over time. and its really the humidity. caribbean humidy. And although their isnt much of a seasonal change to be seen, YES the weather does change enough to be noticed. coldest of days can see to you wearing a light jacket for sure, and that goes as far south as miami. Ive been living in Puerto Rico for many years as well, and i gota say in comparison, central to south florida very much so has seasonal changes. the only change happening in PR right now is that the humidity has lifted at night. and when it does it ironically feels like florida. its so weird to feel normally dry with no sense of oily stickyness. crime in the stpete area is minimum nothing to worry about.

So far I've loved it even moved during the hottest months and to me it was just a Missouri summer where I was from originally. There are parts of I miss about Denver, but I will say the traffic seems to be better (although haven't had a taste without the pandemic yet) and people overall are friendlier, but the cost is a huge difference, I no longer live paycheck to paycheck.

I respectfully disagree with the fact that we don't have a change of seasons? I have a Southern Oak in my front yard and there's beautiful fall colors. Many trees shed their leaves in this area if you really take a look, and they are pretty orange and yellow and red fall colors. Of course there's not nearly as many trees as up north, but if you consciously look for trees that have fall colors I'm sure you will find them. And then there are flowers that bloom as soon as summer ends. It's just a different change of seasons. I've grown to love the change of seasons here. Again, they are just different, but there are still "fall colors"

The beaches are very nice, but the swimming is not. The water is very shallow off the beaches, and is very calm, so there are stingrays to contend with. The beaches on the Atlantic side of Florida are much nicer, I think.
You can take the bus to Tampa from St Pete. I think the bus system is pretty good. I rode my bicycle from Coquina Key to Tarpon Springs and came back on the bus in the dark of night, with my bike, no problem. Buses are a form of mass transit, by the way.
St Pete seems to be a fairly bicycle friendly town. There are some dedicated bike paths and bike lanes, and "SHARE THE ROAD" signs and road markings can be seen, but there could be more dedicated bike lanes on the streets.
Houses and multi-unit dwellings were a good buy ten years ago, but are expensive now.
Publix markets are awesome! Fresh seafood abounds, stone crab claws! Any cuisine you fancy. BBQ everywhere, lots of oak smoke in the air. Lots of arts and culture stuff.
And the usual big city types of woes, goes without saying.

My favorite beach is at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park on Singers Island in Palm Beach County. There are a few restrooms, and some showers, and that's it. Usually very few people. There is a nice little nature trail between the dunes and the mangroves. To get to the beach from the parking lot you cross a large lagoon on a boardwalk. Not knocking things but the state income tax is not much of a thing. The money is just used up in things like lots of toll roads. If I’m coming from New York or New England than maybe, but then you job pay is significantly less. Ohio. Not so much

I like the downtown of St Pete better than the town of St Pete Beach, as I enjoy culture and a lower volume, of tourists and beachgoers, The whole area of Tampa Bay has a lot of pluses, with many good locales. I am most fond of Sarasota/Siesta Key and Hyde Park in Tampa. I do hope the Rays move to a nicer stadium, as their dome is AWFUL!!

@@edennard1 Tropicana Field is an ugly stadium, andcthe team does not belong in St Pete. Downtown Tampa is a better location, and the new stadium toward Ybor City looks nice. I can surely understand not wanting to be close to a stadium, and enduring all the crowds and aftermath - why downtowns are better destinations for stadiums.

I moved to Pinellas Park in August without seeing my apt first because of Covid. My search started in Tampa. I ended up here because I am 12 minutes to downtown St. Pete, 20 mins to Tampa and 25 mins to Clearwater. Even being down here for 5 months I dont regret my choice for a second because its a clean, centralized location to everywhere. Good luck!

The US Supreme Court decided at some point in its history, that the coastal beaches of the US are public property: no one may own a part of the beach. States and localities, like Florida and St Petersburg, did not protect this public ownership. They allowed private persons to own the access to the beach by building and developing right up to it - not only on the inland side of the road, but on the sea-side. They stole from the public the access from the road to what belonged to the public, the beach and the water. They gave it away to owners of hotels, restaurants, and private property developers. To make their robbery acceptable to the capitalist judges, they allowed a few narrow access paths through the miles of private, blocked areas, and they built a few parking lots, metered at high charges, along the road. All of the sea-side should be public property with full public access. Private ownership should have been restricted entirely to the inland side of the road, as on south Miami Beach where a public park is on the sea-side. We, the people were robbed by capitalism in this one of many instances!

This was a GREAT VIDEO !!! We do really have it all :) But...The peir is ugly. It looks like a stack of bills, and not green ones, owed ones? (I am an artist) With Dali there, it could have been a shel or a wave, or It could have complimented the Vinoy and been more like the one there in the 1920's. That was a real place people gathered to socialize. The Dome, needs to be a giant orange slice or top of a palm tree, something that says, "I'm in Florida" the Sunshine State-or smthg whimsical or a mandela or ANTHING! WITH all the local and international art. It looks like a factory building of some sort the way it is, never bothered to paint a Ray in it, but that situation is a whole nother video, or in the cons, lol.. USF SP/Campus and Poynter JoOurnalism college in our downtown! As there are theatres: Mahafey & the smaller venues. Poiynter(?) 2 more colleges: Eckerd & Stetson Law Colleges! A Naval Academy: Admiral Faragut, many, many colleges. Also besides a sailboat harbor,, our downtown boasts our own MINI Historical Airfield/Airport-AND Small Port that is also shared with USF Marine Research classes. Many Yacht, Women's, Arts clubs. Golf everywhere. You can even shuffleboard still ! And go to an actual, old, coliseum! Several nature preserves including, the trail extension, an Ancient Fort! DeSoto! The downtown is beautiful, and still has even more potential. Also forgot quick mention of 40 minutes to Busch Gardens and Waterpark and maybe 2 hrs to Orlanro. 20-30 minutes to an International Airport and International Mall! ❤ We really do have iit all. :)

UPDATE: There will be projects in Central St. Pete. (downtown). The South Side will experience gentrification. South side homes are going to be gentrified and Babylonian style projects will be built in mid downtown, especially where Tropicana Field is going to be destroyed to build these Chicago Style Towers.
This will be reality. The worst people will have to move here before this happens. The people moving to St. Pete should suffer and will suffer before that actually happen. These are the people that are the main ones that create this situation and also deserve the suffering that they will suffer. They think they are immune but they'll suffer tremendously.

The number 1 reason not to buy or go there. They are trying to de-fund the police . I live there for a year back when it was actually worth being there and lived in a really nice area my car was broken into 6 time and my apartment was 3 times in one year. And got my own private stalker had to move out of state. And that's with the police. I can't even think of driving through with out them there to keep it safe.
