There are some comments here about how the deer suffered. Actually, I don't think he felt a thing. If he had, he would have kept running. Generally, when they are in pain, they fight it and run. He stood there, feeling more and more fatigued and eventually he lay down. He didn't fall over. He literally felt nothing. He fell asleep. I don't think he suffered at all. Often, after the initial impact, animals don't even know they've been hit.
He was double lunged. He suffocated. Heart shots would have been done in less than a minute. And he'd have just flopped 9ver. You can see him struggling to breathe. Until you watch a person die gasping for breath after being lung shot you have no clue. The deer needed a second shot to end it quickly
@@gravefutur9263 I've heart shot deer (blown completely in half) and had them run almost 100yds. We don't hunt people. We hunt deer. Save your anthropomorphism for the non-hunters. It was a clean crossbow shot.
I call bull crap to anyone complaining about how long it took this deer to die or that rifles are more humane. Deer usually run off out of sight and by the time you get there they have expired. Sometimes with a bow they don’t run off for whatever reason and you have to watch them die like in this video. It’s a hard thing to watch never the less but if you hunt a lot it will happen. Congrats nice Buck.
To everyone in the comments who say bad shot or he should of shot again or this is why you only hunt with a gun. Let's bring some facts into to this instead of opinions. This Deer was shot 1:00 min into the video. The Deer layed down at like 4-1/2 minutes into the video and died 7:15 into the video. From shot to death total time 6:15. If you have shot a Deer and it ran off were you couldn't see it and waited a half hour or more to track it, you have hade a Deer die like this too. As far as a bad shot the Deer ran like 40 yards and stopped. A bad shot the Deer would have kept running. And last but not least. The hunter could not have put another shot on the animal because it had its tail to the hunter the whole time. It is easy to arm chair quarterback. This video is a great job by this hunter and a great example of why you don't push a Deer when you shoot it with a bow or a gun.
I’m a proud deer hunter for 25 years..and for the 1st time this made me feel bad for the deer..I never bow hunted just because Of this..that deer suffered way to long. Nice deer but I’m a 300 PRC 220 grain man..I’m not trying to let something live in agony that long.
I dont even know if the deer was in pain, no cries of agony, i think it had some pain maybe like a broken bone or something then it got dizzy and took a nap. thats what i picture. he didnt know it was his demise.
Congratulations on the nice deer! I was reading some of the comments, and I'm assuming that a lot of people haven't seen a deer expire after being taken with a bow and arrow. I watched the video at least a dozen times so I could see where you were shooting from and it looked like a pretty good shot. I know if you would have taken another shot the buck would have ran on adrenaline and who knows where it would have ran. Maybe instead of making comments about what you should have done, they should remember the rule as to why a person should wait at least 20 minutes to track a deer after it's shot with a arrow. Anyway again, congratulations on a nice adult heavy whitetail buck.
You can wrap every emotion around that video. I deer hunt and know the best is always a good shot clean kill. If he ran another 20 yards you would not of caught that on video. Beautiful strong animals.
Anybody that was affected that bad by this video I have trouble believing they have hunted very much or for very long. Have you guys ever seen a couple of coyotes kill a deer? They eat it alive and don’t worry about if it’s dead while they’re ripping off pieces of it’s flesh. The girl in this video was very humane compared to several kills in nature. If it bothers you that bad, then maybe hunting isn’t your sport. Nice buck. None of the no doubt “sharpshooters” that commented on this video could’ve done any better. Most would’ve gotten buck fever and shot completely over him or get punched him. Congrats on a nice dear.
Yeah hunting is my sport but i still find no need to hunt horns. I have seen coyotes kill deer. Even watch a grizzly eat a caribou, still doesn’t mean i wanna wait till my birthday for a deer to die after i shot it. But to each his own i reckon.
@@skyking4501 I agree although I did kill a big buck but only bc he came by first that day. My Grandpop used to say "boy you can't eat the horns!" and meat was all we hunt for.
What would you estimate was the distance from you when you took the shot? Hard to tell from the camera. I assume that was a double lung shot? It took him a bit to bleed out.
Because of Fred Bear I'll walk down these trails again Take me back where I belong Oh, Fred Bear, I'm glad to have you at my side my friend And I'll join you in the big hunt before too long, Ted Nugent.
Good hunt. Nice the buck didn't run far. Patient hunter, some hunters would have been moving eratically b/c of the hit but this hunter remained calm and allowed the buck to expire in it's unforced time. Congrats to the hunter.
THIS WAS CLEARLY A GOOD ETHICAL SHOT THE HUNTER DID HIS PART..UNFORTUNATELY THE DEER DID NOT DROP INSTANTLY HAPPENS OFTEN ON EVEN THE BEST ARCHERY SHOTS CANT FAULT THE SHOOTER AT ALL
His lungs collapsed. No heart shot. Very little blood while standing. Gasping at end shows lungs and no heart. Heart shot would show him rapidly wobble withinnsec9nds, topple 9ver and not just gently lay down. Every heart shotnive had, th deer runs a short distance...kind of wobbles, staggers one way or the other a few steps or feet and falls hard on its side
I stopped bow hunting in the 70’s for this very reason. And I stopped hunting horns. They don’t make good gravy anyway. Meat only since then. I only use a 45/70 with a 405 gr bullet and never shoot over 100 yards. Mine always drop where they are.
Lost a doe this year chased her to soon, she was just in the thick stuff, Might not try my crossbow? Want a easy fast well placed kill shot, no track ? lol yeah i need to buy and watch videos
I ain't gonna lie. I've killed so many living things on this earth including man. Never gets easier watching a deer take it's last breath. Laying down and dying slowly. I've killed hundreds of deer but only two I remember was my fault they felt more than they should have. Grown man crying in the woods is kinda pathetic. I could care less turned into what some would call a complete monster with my hunting knife both times. I still remember vividly and both time I put myself in grave danger. One was a 230 lb just bad deer 11 with a basket. The other was a 7 I thought was a 9 just enormous 6 yo. Both bad deer they didn't deserve what I did. I always honor my kills and respect deer just as this hunter. Mad Respect! Fine animal.
Offer no apologies. This is how many of us hunt in this part of the country. Archery season is longer and safer. Rifles aren't allowed in IL. IL is flat and populated. You took a good shot. That Buck was living by sheer will. He was bleeding out well. He prolly felt a sting from the arrow. He was calm and had peace enough to lay down close to your stand and not into the next 3 counties somewhere to pass. This is why you wait 2 hours unless you see it crash. If you hit it in the liver wait 4 to 6 hours. I hope you thanked that deer for his meat and prayed to the Lord that it not suffered long while he fought. I got 26 years of bow hunting under my belt. And this was sad to watch but part of it.
i would say the broadhead never open up nice deer i would have tryed to shoot it again i have been a deer hunter for almost 40 years and this is the only time a deer got to me
looks like a gut shot, poor shot but they happen, would not stay alive if it were a lung shot, plus no blood I could see spilling from mouth or nostrils
Double lung. Gut shot, he would have disappeared and never been found without a tracking dog. Heart shot would have been a different more quick death. No more than a minute and a half he'd have fallen over and you see massive blood with heart..I saw nothing on its side even though it was a thru and thru
I've only been hunting just a little while and I am firmly committed into not taking a shot that far on the animal where they bow or across well,, To me that animal suffered way too much,, I'm a firm believer in 1 shot 1 kill but I was hoping you were going to shoot that deer either with another arrow or with a rifle,, He suffered he was in pain and that was definitely not ethical,, I have saved this video and if anyone asks me why won't I take a shot further than them what I take shots I will show this video for reference and to prove my point,, Even though I'm not a trophy hunter congratulations on your harvest but at what cost,, And as a hunter you should never want to see that again,, That deer took a shot at your one minute mark in your video or video and for 6 minutes and 15 seconds during the video that deer was alive and suffering who knows how long he continued to suffer after the video was stopped,, And if you have a conscience you should feel the exact same way that was needless unnecessary suffering that deer went through all for the sake of 11 points on his head,, There is no way in the world I would let it animal suffer that much and I don't care what that animal is,,
STOP hunting then dude bc let me tell ya. THIS is NOTHING compared to what I have seen over 45 years of hunting! From my experiences as well as those close to me.
Unfortunately it wasn't a heart shot. It was a double lung and the bucks lungs slowly collapsed and he suffocated. Yes, it was a quick kill but heart shots usually end at about 2 minutes tops and they simply fall over and go to sleep almost still standing
Why do you say horrible shot? I took a double lung at 25 yards on a nice 12 point that field dressed at 200lbs back in 1990 with similar results. My deer took off and ran 75 yards into a swamp then ran back out under my stand and stopped 12 yards from my stand. I put another arrow in and was ready to draw when he coughed and blow blood out of his mouth. After that he walked up behind me on a ridge and laid down, after at least another 5 minutes I saw his head drop. I've watched the video several times and it looks as though that he had perfect shot placement. If you watch the shooter is to the left of the screen as you can catch a glimpse of the arrow in the air. The deer is quartering away and the shoulder on the opposite side is forward of the vitals. He was just able to capture what most people never get to see after the shot with a bow. The deer expired in about 6 minutes from hemorrhaging. I've have taken the top artery of the heart out before and had them run 150 yards with adrenaline pumping until they just dropped.
If your not filled with emotions while watching this , your not human.
Wow that powerful.

True but I would have shot him again myself. I have had this happen and I shot it a few times to be sure.

The ol' boy fought til the very end didn't he?
Went out like a king. Truly. Died gracefully.

Heart wrenching yes. Good shot also yes. Better than some terrible gut shot with gun or bow where the animal can run miles.

This video is why I do not use a bow! So sad and uncalled for harvest.
Most deer taken by bow don't need to hang to remove blood as the animal has expired from blood loss.
