rare video thanks for making it. my fathers side from a time long ago came from here, known as the Gilbertese people. now he resides in the Solomon islands in a community from Kiribati and yeah you look like our family much more than Solomon Islanders. Kia ora from New Zealand

Kia ora. Glad you enjoyed the video and brings memories of your family back in the Solomon Islands. True, even if we have moved overseas, our Kiribati identity remains! Cheers

I miss the sounds of the children calling out "I-Matang, I-Matang!" as you walk through villages, especially on the outer islands. Mosquitos at night, flies and Red Ants by day I remember well! I used to laugh at the I-Matangs swimming at the beach on Betio, just around the corner villagers were conducting "toilet" ablutions on the sand! My how the airport has changed, it was very basic in my time. Ko raba, another great video to stir old memories this way!

Oh well, you know Kiribati very well haha. Yes, Imatangs are still popular and the kids love to practice their English when seeing them. The beach thing is still an ongoing problem even when announced on the radio that it’s not allowed. There is a newer and quite serious problem on Tarawa and it’s the dog’s population. You have to watch your steps during the day and sometimes at night your sleep is disturbed with the dog on heat …. Anyway, the people are still smiling and happy so all is good. Thanks for the chat. Cheers
