    This is exactly how I've always tuned my drums as well...by feel and sound! Your drums always sound killer! I get lots of compliments from sound engineers on how easy I am to mic and how good the drums sound. I seem to have missed your tom tuning vid...but I'm going to check it out!
    From a feel standpoint with my toms, I don't like it so tight that it feels like I'm hitting a table top...I like my stick to sort of feel like it's sinking into the drum, but still have enough response for quicker fills. Finding that happy medium, to me, gives the toms a nice deep and PHAT tone.
    As for the snare, I tune mine just like you, except I'm afraid to crank the bottom as much. I had one completely blow out during a gig once! I mean it shattered...and I was left with a really high pitched steel concert tom for a snare for the rest of the night. Embarrassing. I was pretty young...early 20's. Lesson learned...I've carried a spare snare to every gig since that night...and guess how many times I've needed it?.....ZERO. Figures...Haha! Great vid Paul! Thanks!

      Awesome Rich! Yeah, first of all, always bring a spare snare to a gig. Although I’ve never broken a bottom head like you, I have broke some batter heads and Thank God for that spare. I only crank up the bottom about 75%. Sounds like you went overkill on that one. Lol. And yeah as for toms, I like them a bit deeper with enough response for some bounce but not super tight like Terry Bozio for instance. Sounds like we have similar taste and tuning styles. Thanks for all the feedback. Good stuff man!

    bought this same snare this past December.i love it!!!🖤 It cuts clean with a sharp projection that is as loud as any snare i have! I used it for three new tracks in the studio couple weeks ago. I always bring at least 2 snares,( Tama Bronze) that i was requested to bring. I took the sea glass acrylic out first the engineer didn't want to try the one he requested. 😁 He and the artist couldn't get enough! It's Voice is "Loud & Proud" lol .
    Definitely one of my favorites. Love the Video's You do Paul! I've been a fan of yours since the first time I heard the XYZ Debut! Even more so when i saw you in person at the Syria Mosque
    in Pittsburgh , you billed with Don Dokken (Mikkey Dee) was his drummer on that tour. You Kicked Everyone's Ass , that's all i remember!! 🥁 your Double bass sixtieth polyrhythm fills we're knocking folks away from the PA 😁

    Hi Bro:
    Thanks for the great video! I love the new addition to the kit! The snare drum sounds (and looks) killer! I still think adding a couple of coke bottle acrylic octabons (rata toms, rocket toms, etc.) would be awesome to expand your tonal range. I'm going to keep this one short to see if RUclips will let my comments be posted!
    Thanks again,
    Later on,
    Jon

    Boss vid. How tight would you advise for the snares?

    • @babaloop
      @babaloop  5 месяцев назад +1

      Not too tight but definitely not loose. You have to find the sound that works for you. I like a little extra snare sound so I go about 70%

    Be careful ,mine spider cracked around a few lugs. I've had it tuned high but not unreasonably high for this to occur.
