People who make video tutorials when they look for one an can not find it are the backbone of this society. Thank you. This is just magical, I am always blown away by the level of craftswomenship on these old machines.
This is wonderful news. I probably even have one of these attachments because I can't pass them up! This is the best motivation ever to get the sewing room straightened out...
Ive bought a lot of these nifty attachments from a place online called The featherweight shop. It's a different machine than my 66 but most of the attachments will fit. :)
Thank you for showing this. Makes me feel a lot better about picking up a straight stitch only machine, a girl needs options and you just showed us how to get them. LOL Thank you so much. I'm getting a singer 15-91 but still debating, stuck between 15-91 or the 99. :) LOL
Wow, what a surprise that I found this video while looking for a way to do a backstitch on an old Standard machine... Just hours ago I was looking at this attachment that came with my inherited machine and wondering what it was for, and it looks very much like your zig zag attachment :O Will try it out later to see if it works as well as yours.. thanks so much for sharing, there's not a lot of information I can find about my machine, much less the attachment which I couldn't google coz I didn't know what it's called.. hahahha.
Right on! im glad you found my vid! On the old machines there is no backstitch so you can either start from an inch down sew up then lift your presserfoot and turn the fabric, put the presser foot back down and repeat when you get to the end of your work by turning and sewing back up. the other thing you can do is leave long strings and just hand sew them in after your done but it takes a long time and is tedious. Well keep me posted about the zig zagger, it should hopefully work and happy sewing!
I love my zig zag attachments for my Singer machines. I believe there’s a lever if you wanna go back To a straight stitch too. Been a while since I’ve used mine. 🤔
I have an old Singer 239, only does straight line. I checked with a Brother broker who said that NO attachment ( regardless of manuf) could work on a straight line machine. Your antique - does it do only straight line? It seems I need to better understand if there is a zig zag attachment that fits a straight line. Thanks for posting.
I believe these machines only sew in a straight line, the attachment was a later innovative development that gave people the option to do zig zag stitches on straight line machines by instead having the attachment move the fabric from side to side rather than the needle. this makes it a little trickier to use than your standard modern zig zag machine but is perfectly usable. Rather expensive though.
Does the fabric get moved back and forth as the machine does a zig zag stitch? I want an antique or vintage machine, but sew a lot of lycra and need the do a zig zag on them. If the fabric is moving that's not going to work for me.
this is so good, but the problem is that I guess the lock stich zigzag attachment is not available here in Philippines. Do you have a recommendation on how can I avail a zigzag attachment?
Thanks for this, May! I got one off Ebay also, but mine lacks the crucial pin, that wire you pointed out at the beginning. I could not figure out why it isn't working (a...it snapped my needle right off; and b...it sewed a straight stitch until that happened). Oh brother, I paid a lot for it. If you know of a place selling pieces for feet. pls let me know! Otherwise don't know...out $22! Dang it....
yes i do know a seller for vintage parts try this guy out: sewingmachine221sale.bizland.com/store/page47.html, and try www.sewingmachinesplus.com/sewing-accessories-singer.php, email them and tell them what happened they might have an extra pin laying around, this is states purchases theres UK sites too
hello Myra rocks I've just received my singer 99k vintage model can u please tell me how to start it. I tryed but engine works but needle does doesn't go. I've learned how to thread properly..Help :)
For some reason I cant reply to you Racheal Miller, My sewing machine is a Sphinx model 127 and the attachment is a 121706 which I believe was manufactured in the 1930's but still works on the old machines which I find is really cool, as mine is a 1913 :)

Or you can pull one side of the stitch to the other side and tie the two together, then clip the excess.
I have one of these it took me a bit to figure out what it was. I even contacted singer on facebook and they had no idea!!
Is your machine electric or treadle?? (I'm assuming not hand-crank since you can film hehe)
