- In this video I will explain basic electronics for beginners in 15 steps. Getting started with basic electronics is easier than you might think. This video will hopefully demystify the basics of electronics so that anyone with an interest in building circuits can hit the ground running.
This is a quick overview into practical electronics and it is not my goal to delve deeply into the science of electrical engineering. If you are interested in learning more about the science of basic electronics, this channel is a good place to start your search. By the end of this video, anyone with an interest to learn basic electronics should be able to read a schematic and build a circuit using standard electronic components.

Studied electronics back in the 70's. Thought I remembered all of the basics. Guess what ? Thanks for the simple water valve icon to represent the base on a transistor.
☺️👍🙏
😛
I really miss Radio Shack.
Good old radio shack,Tandy products I had all the kits from the early 1980s. Man that was my hobby store
@@williamschubert3929 I did too! I got my first one (150-in-one) for my 8th birthday in 1980.
It's sad because alot more people are buying online and putting good businesses out of business
I have the RadioShack learning lab. With it and these videos maybe I can learn a thing or two
Man that just took me back 20 years lol. The world will never be so great as the old days :/
i’m watching this just before my final exam in my, one year, electrical techniques course. I think you did a great job!
Thank you so much ☺️🙏🏼
straight to the point and infinitely rewatchable, thank you
Thank you so much ☺️
I liked this brief introduction to electronic circuit design and components. I am a rank beginner. It went fast but that’s ok, I can re-watch or turn to more in-depth segments. As for the EE’s out there who are trying to catch every little oversimplification, I would say, refer to the title of the vid. I am deeply appreciative that someone would take the time to prepare and post this info, it takes time and talent. Thanks! Now I can build concepts on these basics on my way to building a guitar amplifier. And yes, I will be careful with the filter capacitors.
Did you try watching at a slower speed?
Very good video, easy to understand, even if you are a beginner with Electronic.
Thank you so much ☺️🙏🏼
Thank you for this video man 🙏
thanks for providing such knowledge ❤❤

Excellent job done, a very comprehensive approach, all the best and keep it up.
Thank you so much.
Thank you, you’ve helped me understand what my father spent his life trying to teach me but could not put it in a way that I could understand, thanks to you I do know, I’m just one person but it means a lot knowing this information, I would pay you but this comment is the most I can do sorry an thank you god bless you
I'm glad it was useful. Thank you.
Thanks a lot for your sharing Sir.
It is very easy to understand...
🙏🙏🙏 Thank you very much
You have made it easy for me to understand. Kudos to your hard work
Thank you so much 😊🙏🏼
Excellent, this is what i have been looking for.
Thank you so much ☺️
Wrong on fequency. 60 Hertz is crest to crest on the sine wave. So the power changes directions 60 times a second NOT 120.
Great video, very informative
I just love to learn . 💖 Since I do not have tv or listen to & let them suck my brain by nonsense & crap & rubbish , I watch something that give me a positive energy so I enjoy . Thank you for sharing you knowledge 🙏 namaste 🙌💖

2 years of school explained in 15min
Nice1..electric & thank u
With regards to my last post when your child complains about having to learn math in school, if you want to become a electronics technician or engineer that is a must.
To be a good electrician maybe. I saw many electricians who used calculator for basic math in my life. to be "regular" electrician you just need common sense.

LDR Photo electric - is this a simple on off switch? If I shine a laser at it, it keeps the contacts closed allowing current to flow. If i remove the light source, it stops the current. Can I put this into a simple setup (example, the tamper circuit of an alarm system) and if the laser light is tripped, set off the alarm?
very nice video
Thank you so much ☺️🙏🏼
Nice video. However, at 9:25 you state the flat part on an LED is the anode. It's actually the cathode.
🙂well done for paying attention, step up to the front of the class.😇
When he said ''you on your own''
I just like 😱😱😱
😅👍
new sub thanks for posting :)
🙏😘👌
Without the led spec sheet I would assume it draws 20 mA. The battery is 9 volts, R=E/I ohms law so the resistor you use is 9 volts divided by .020 amps which is 450 ohms. Your 330 ohms would run it a little hot. This is basic design engineering.
Amazingly clear explanations.
BUt have one maybe two questions:
So TRANSFORMERS & INDUCTORS doesnt count as basic electronic components? Maybe title17 steps soundsed to lame who knows as beginner anyway 😁
Or video title missing DC - "Basic DC Electronics for Beginners in 15 Steps"
Just personally curious & learning.
Very good topic and explanation
Thank you so much.
Good 👍 video. I have subscribed
Thank you so much ☺️🙏🏼
60 cycles per second is Hertz in frequency. One cycle goes from zero to positive then back negative to zero, that is only one half of a cycle.
The author here is wrong about 60 hertz being 120 cycles.

Electrolytic Capacitors will also explode if connected in the wrong direction.
1:15 what i understand that alternating current change's direction of electrons
at some sequel point eg : at first charges flow -ev to +ev then +ev to -ev and vice versa happens through battery across the circuit
right or not?
please reply!
Wrong.
In one part of your statement you're referring to A.C. characteristics. The other you're referring to D.C. characteristics.
At 12:11 minute mark, the 330 ohm resistor is labeled on the schematic as 1k which is 1000 ohms. Not the same!
First of all, thank you for your interest. Yes, I accidentally made a mistake in that part.
9:20 The flat notch on a LED is the side of the cathode not an anode.
nice video....
Thank you so much ☺️
Very clear
Sorry but at 01:25 you mention that 60hz = 120hz, this is incorrect. If you begin measuring at an initial change in polarity vice half way thru a rise, you'll find 60Hz is 60Hz.
Its a great video so now l knew a little bit of basic electrical engineeering. how ever, do you have a video that shows me how to build a reomoteable camera. lf you do, can you upload the video so we can learn how to build it. Tank you for your attentions
Thank you. I'm glad you liked the video. We don't have a video like that. Maybe I can prepare it later.
I study as electrican and this video is mostly things we have studied in first year
good evening i am a teacher from electronics may i use your video lessons
i am translating your lessons to my language and use for teaching children
When I was like 10 or 12,I was just playing around with some components and managed to figure out how battery, switch, resistor, diode and led works.
I don't know how?? 😭
And I also figured out that motor can generate electricity.
muito bom
Obrigado ☺️🙏🏼
Capacitors won't work if they're wired backwards. But if the goal is to make them explode, this will work perfectly.
What if my goal isn't to make them explode necessarily, but to make my office smell terrible?
only polar capacitors
Polar capacitors are big capacitors
Is GND in DC schematics same as Negative ?
In a simple circuit with a battery+ resistor+led, the led acts as a resistor and + the first resistor,it becomes a voltage divider, right?! So in that circuit the current is the same as the battery, only the voltage drops, right?! Is my understanding correct?
I want to be an electrical and electronic engineer and practically sound for self training, what are the topics I need to study step by step to get there or achieve my gool.
Check college outlines and find your own recources. Surpisingly lots of colleges and universities tell you what you need to learn in the outline often times and you can use free open source textbook websites to download what you can find within. Hope that helps
Electrical and electronics have a crossover point is the first thing to understand. Point of the power supply tends to be the cut off points. Also, electronics gets very deep when we get into rf analogue, digital etc. Suggest you find a place you are happy at. Much of the stuff one learns at college will never be used in real life, but the principles are important in other stuff even if it is not obvious to start with.
you made electronics simple by explaining it to how an idiot would understand and not bollocks it up. time to binge and claim all the knowledge i can. because the demystifying of things like this is important.
👍👍👍
Help, advice needed, I am building a mini Vertical Axis Wind Turbine ( VAWT), I am good at construction and qualified at fabrication but know v little about electronics. I am currently stuck on what ( size) Diode I need for a Cordless Drill size motor to a small 2x 12v Battery pack. I saw a vid that said a ‘’blocking Diode’’ is what is used to stop electricity going back to the Gene from battery, but you say in this vid that Diodes block, not specifying a ‘’blocking’’ diode. So are all Diodes’’blocking’’ ones?, also could you or anyone pls tell me what size ( ‘’blocking’’ ?) Diode I would need for my above mini Wind Gene? I would really appreciate some advice with this, as it is to part power my flat.
I will be creating a VAWT generator using a car alternator which has a rectifier to produce DC.
I would advise you to wait a little longer before you attempt this project. As you progress through explanations of power generation and rectification characteristics it will become apparent why I'm making those suggestions. As an example ( a very relevant one). How much of a load is going to be required? Until you can answer all of the relevant questions ACCURATELY, folly is probably inevitable.

I understand electronics. But it still blows my mind. How they make a billion transistors work on a chip. Please show how it works
It is at a level now that is very proprietary. About two decades ago micro miniaturization was accomplished by establishing a interior composite of a component on diagram media and that component and all of its neighbors were reduced down photographically to be extremely small. Much smaller than the component it was modeled after.
Transistor is not just an amplifier it can also be used as a switch
How do you diagnose an AC DC switching power supply power unit that is not working? Class two power unit output, 29.0 V to amps 58 point 0 W
Wow
4:58 - Not only will it not work correctly, it will burst open. It must be replaced after that.
❤
Will be better if real time examples and problems are given.

I watch this video at 1Hz and it is still to fast for me to understand .
I get what your trying to learn us , but really concentrate on one type of component , like the 555 timer and explain how it is wired up and how to make it function in various ways. and what is it good for or not good for.
I look foreward to seeing your improvemnts

0:55 to 0:58 It is incorrect to use ground as a polarity.
Same here.😢
more electromechanic then electronics
What happens if you dont use a resister on an LED circuit?
LED will be damaged because high current will flow.
@@eeapplications Thanks
if your supplying the led with voltage higher than that of the maximum rating for said led without a resistor then it will indeed blow
Connect more LEDs in serie, total LEDs voltage aproximatly equal to source voltage.
Resistors like capacitors and other components have names,
Names that are functional but may seem confusing
Things like
Current Limiting Resistor
Step Down Transformer
Bulk Filter Capacitor
Smoothing Capacitor
NOW..... Even though, simply stated, we are only talking about a standard
Capacitor here
or a Standard Resistor
or a standard Transformer
THE NAME IS GIVEN AS A RESULT OF IT'S FUNCTION OR PURPOSE IN THE CIRCUIT OF THAT PART OF THE CIRCUIT
in the example of a Smoothing Capacitor, it's function is to smooth out ripples in the voltage HENCE THE NAME
in the case of the transistor, it takes a higher voltage (say 240V AC)
it reduces it (STEPS DOWN) to say 16V AC on the secondary coil,
hence the name
now.. this resistor is called A CURRENT LIMITING RESISTOR because it is put in circuit to LIMIT THE CURRENT going to the LED
now let's examine your question
"What happens if you dont use a resister on an LED circuit?"
SCIENTIFIC AND LITERAL ANSWER :
Your current will not be limited going to the resistor
OVER LAMEN ANSWER :
Shit will blow up
REALISTIC ANSWER BUT NOT TOO ENGINEERING LEVEL:
depending on a few factors and considering ohm's law, Your LED might not blow up and you might get lucky, but if you do , Over time the lifespan of your LED will greatly reduce.
it is however more likely that your LED will blow up or the filament will go open circuit because LED's are low power devices , You put too much current through them or voltage and you exceed their rating they're likely to fail
also..... RESISTOR is spelled like this
also..... the answer depends on WHICH RESISTOR VALUE YOU CHOOSE and which LED you chose
so... does that help you understand
The Take away is....
YOU ADD THE RESISTOR, YOU LIMIT THE CURRENT FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROTECTING THE LED
YOU TAKE THE RESISTOR AWAY AND YOU LET THE CURRENT FLOW FREELY FROM THE SOURCE TO AN UPROTECTED RESISTOR TO SUFFER THE FULL FORCE OF THE VOLTAGE AND CURRENT
Hope that helps
At 12 minutes, why he chose that resister and not bigger or smaller one?
This is the most suitable resistor for the LED to light up without being damaged.
@@eeapplications no formula?
You messed up at 12:12 - the resistor is not 330 Ohm.
Also at 05:55 he states that "the amount of current that passes between these pins is proportional to the voltage being applied at the base pin". It's not. The amout of current at those pins are proportional to the CURRENT being applied at the base pin
dont connect power until you check your work
