Hi Rob & Lynn ,its lovely to hear your getting your motorhome back ,& hopefully you take them to court because this is there incompetence that has caused this to happen ,but i am also glad to hear that you will keep your motorhome & not change it ! ,so sorry i haven't text you of late ,but i have had double pneumonia, & my eye OP couldn't go ahead on the same day as Carlys birthday, so it was a hospital night i never wish to repeat again , but the ambulance team were lovely, & got me on a machine to help me breathe before i left for the hospital, then i was blue lighted off after my doctors told my daughter Carly to call for the ambulance, then to be told that there were know hospital beds, & they took me to general A& E to be seen, i waited 9hrs to be seen before given antibiotics, & was told to go home & rest for 2 weeks, but even now i am still not right ,i will need other things like xrays & things done but @ an out patients appointment, & my doctors have given me 2 different antibiotics so far & it still hasn't cleared up ,my cough is like a dog barking its dreadful, & i carnt get to the loo before i am out of breath, but on a more positive note Carly did have her mom for her birthday on the 1st of February so i am happy for her as she had a lovely time & a Harry Potter bithday cake & lots of new clothes, hope you 2 are soon cuddled up together in your Motorhome, Carnt wait to see you on the road again ,all our love Linda & Carly Dunn from Newport Shropshire xxxxx❤😊

Ours is a Germany van and at 2 year old we took it to Alde for its service. Was informed by them that companies use their own brand antifreeze which is a different colour to what they use. They knew from just seeing the colour of our anti freeze that it might only have a two year life span and advised to change it to their own and it would be fine for 5 years. These manufacturers do not inform Alde of what they’re using and will not use the recommended anti freeze from Alde. It’s due this year and we will be returning it to them to have it done again wouldn’t take it anywhere else. They are brilliant to deal with Xx
I agree most don’t know. It was only because we had just bought Queen Bee and we was having everything checked over that we called them direct we wasn’t aware that we could go direct to them and there no dearer than say using someone else. They also fixed a few things with ours as well. Silly really it’s Alde’ s boiler but manufacturers refuse to tell them what they use 🤷🏼♀️. 💰 me thinks as it’s cheaper to use a inferior produt that only last 2 years. No one tells you this ! And there very very expensive Motorhome’s !

Happy to hear you are getting sorted. I am no heating engineer, but I am sure that most heating systems require a rust inhibitor as well as the anti freeze. Just thought it was worth a mention.👍
Hi . Our globetrotter is a German van. When we got it we noticed that it had Blue.... fluid in it . And we are aware that adl3 stopped doing the blue fluid at least 8 years ago so we have had the fluid changed to the pink . Worth it just for peace of mind..... the bill for the flyid change was newrly £400 and that was mostly for the fluid.. it is expensive stuff for the alde fluid. Hope that you get the van back and are back on the road soon.....
Hi Guys, many years ago new household Combi boilers were having early life failures due to corrosion, in an effort to save money they made the heat exchangers out of mild steel 😮 ! Of course it rusted through. Nowadays the heat exchangers are now Stainless Steel, and even our well priced Baxi boiler came with a 7 year warranty 😀. It would be a travesty if Alde are using mild steel in their boilers ? knowing the problems 🤔 and how much they cost . Wonder if the 3.0 version has been quietly upgraded to Stainless ? Might be worth asking ?

Hi both a great video as always First - Rob nearly 60 and treating you Lynn at the pub unbelievable 🤣🤣 Well done on all of your research with Alde and Salop on the boiler and for the answers you have but I do agree with others that both could give you a fuller explanation thank goodness Dutchess was ok it makes me wonder if it has been going for a while and I did wonder if the frost had made it worse but makes sense about an airlock not helping the issue Is it worth asking if Alde could keep your boiler and show you it and talk you through what happened when you go up there? It’s a pity they couldn’t do more as it’s only just out of warranty and technically in the Alde guarantee hope that this makes sense! Keep well both and look forward to next video Daniel

Hi guys, just had our alde heating fluid changed to the pink 5 year type when our hab check was done. To my knowledge all the new vans come with the blue 2 year fluid fitted. Ours had the blue in so is now changed to the longer life pink type. Done at home by an alde approved engineer for £195.00 not sure where the dealer is getting theres from at £270.00 for just the fluid. And ours has had the correct pink alde 5 year type fitted. Anyway glad your getting sorted 👍🏻
Hi ours was pink too, and yes should be 5 years before it was due to be changed, that’s why after only 3.5 years we aren’t happy That was the price they told us, 🤷🏼♀️ Yes on a good note we are happy just to get the bus back

The dog part is frightening, so happy a full recovery, don't bare thinking about. I look back at my old vw t5 , I used and abused that van for 13 years, she never complained, odd times she turned over so slowly, but always fired up. My 3 year old fiat ducato given me the engine management light once and decided not to start once. Do I love her? yes, reluctantly I do. Do I trust her? no. Modern stuff, great features etc, reliability, lets just say AI (Artificial intelligence) It wont be taking over the world any time soon. hehe. Love your videos. hi thanks for info, strangely enough our boiler has developed an issue today and will need replacing our engineer says it has the blue fluid in it, we only got the van in sept 23, and was hab checked by the dealer before collection, the engineer says that the fluid could have corroded the pipes within the boiler,so we feel your pain, we will wait for the engineer to give us a full report when he can start the repair/replacement, hope your bus is ok when you have it back, thanks colin.

Thanks for the updates on this I don’t think any reasonable person would expect a boiler to corrode through in under 4 years in such an expensive system Small claims court might be a way forward, because their guidance for compensation is if any reasonable person believes an item should last longer than it has especially considering the considerable cost of the boiler I’ll be sticking with blown air system
@@RobandLynnontour you need the failed parts returned I’d want to see them myself, as an ex aircraft inspector that would be very interesting to see the extent of any corrosion and help understand the failure A picture paints a thousand words, maybe an independent inspection
I’ve been looking through paperwork relating to my caravan, it was manufactured in May2019 so the boiler will be older than that because I would imagine Swift buy them in bulk from Alde…….also we had the blue fluid (2 year stuff) as Swift didn’t start using pink until after our caravan was manufactured. We changed to the 5 year pink at the 2nd service……just something else for you to ponder👍…hope you are both well and not too stressed 👍

As an aside. Do you have legal expenses cover on your van insurance. As a retired insurance broker, this type of cover is exactly for this kind of thing to assist with advice to help pursue the manufacturer. You have done everything correctly, so it should be covered and they should cover all other expenses such as cleaning. On a separate point. The antidote to anti freeze ingestion is whisky. Its what the hospital give in case of ingestion

Your van insurance should cover cost of resultant damage from the leak but not the boiler itself. So if carpets and or flooring needed to be cleaned or replaced. The legal expenses cover would advise and if need please appoint one of their solicitors to assist.
I dont think you will ever find out why nobody will admit it thank you for the information we have the same heating in our caravan due to be changed this year x

Hi rob and Lynn, just a suggestion that may help you, I fitted a leak detector at my water boiler which if it gets wet will sound an alarm, my boiler is inaccessible so the alarm which is powered by batteries does at least monitor things for me. Maybe it could be something you could try 😊
Glad to see they are going forward with your boiler has it a warranty on it and will it happen in three years time as you should be able to pressure test the system
Many thanks for this latest update; I along with others also believe that this is two organisations who are ripping you off. The simple tactic is that that they blame each other and then it becomes your problem to resolve by paying stupid amounts of money to fix the issue. I must say that I am concerned that my 2023 Homer only comes with a 2 year guarantee. Keep asking the awkward questions and seriously fighting the money grabbing charges that the dealers want to charge us. Hope this week goes well and looking forward to seeing you back on the road, just as I recover from 84 days around Europe.

Hi Lynn &Rob Sorry to hear about all your Alde boiler problems I think as probably a lot of other people do the manufacturers should replace it free of charges. After all it’s not old although out of warranty firstly the maintenance schedule has been followed with proof ;secondly the fluid is antifreeze which contains ethanol and anti corrosive inhibitors so how on earth are they saying corrosion ??. Thirdly I am very glad that your dog has recovered and well as stated earlier antifreeze has chemicals in and with your massive leak over the floor the dog has probably licked it up. Hope you get it all resolved quickly and start to once again enjoy your camping many happy miles.

Dave said if it is electrolysis, is it because the circulation pump has a short, or that the lithium, which has slightly higher voltage is causing an issue? As the boiler is stainless, have you used any water purifying say tablets or solutions that are alkaline based as that would corrode stainless? E.g. if you've used alkaline water purifying tablets in the fresh-water tank that water will be taken into the boiler. So they need to be chlorine free. Our understanding was that the anti freeze checks should be undertaken as part of the servicing, e.g.hydrometer used.
Hi both, a very informative video on the Alde issue, we had the Alde heating in our last 2 tourers and I must admit we had no issues but did have the anti freeze changed at the recommended intervals by Salop, we have the motorhome now with the Truma heating. Regarding Salop can’t fault their after sales service. Are there any touring sites near where you were filming from? Steve (met on the car park at Salop a couple of weeks ago)

Rob and Lynn , glycol cylinder are made of aluminium (I thought) so should be corrosion here to some degree, the cylinder which contains the gas burner and electric elements to heat the glycol within the cylinder which is pumped around the system. Question is why has this corroded within this short time with the correct glycol approved fluid used. Galvanic corrosion is caused by copper particles within the heating system ( generally) ?.
Rob and lynn We had a sterling elite 2011,had the same issue boiler was buggered.. Reason was even though we had emptied the water system of water for winter 🥶. There clearly must of been water that was held inside the boiler which caused an issue.. Whether the remaining water 💦 had frozen to cause the issue or lying water to cause corrosion it was a problem for Alda in our opinion.. But unfortunately we had to take it to Kettering in Cambridge to there service centre for a new boiler.. Believe then it was around a £1k.. The sterling was 10 months out of warranty. We were fuming.. Thing is we’re now in a buccaneer 23 model with Alda heating.. Thing is we only own caravans under warranty so on its 2 nd birthday it’s gone..

Hi Rob and Lynn. In my opinion you are being treated very poorly by both Alde and Salop. The fact that you are only six months out of warranty and with such a catastrophic failure I would have expected a company with the status of Alde to have carried out the repair free of charge as a good will gesture at the very least. The reasons they have put forward as to the cause of the corrosion are outside of your control. If there is a risk of damage because of electrical connections or any other factors etc then this is something that Swift should have factored in when designing your motorhome to ensure that this sort of damage could not occur.
I’m hopeful that salop amd Alda are watching these videos AND our comments.. And get this sorted free of charge for both Rob and Lynn.. As they have soooo many followers.. They that is Alda NOT SALOP GET THIS DONE FOC immediately..
Hi again. Just looked at Alde's service manual which states "The ethylene glycol mixture has to be changed every other year, since properties such as corrosion protection, deteriorate over time. If Alde Premium Antifreeze is used, the interval for changing the mixture can be extended to max 5 years under normal operating conditions" Therefore I would check with Swift to confirm which type of antifreeze they used initially when building the vehicle. Hi both, great vlog as usual. Few thoughts on your boiler leak. Firstly can Alde give you a photo of the area of the leak, doesn't need to be from your actual boiler, they must have one they can photograph. From the Alde spec of the 3020 boiler it mentions the combustion chamber is made of aluminium but no mention of what the other tanks or pipes are made of. Interesting they mentioned galvanic corrosion, I learned very early in my engineering days that you don't use aluminium and stainless steel together especially if in contact with water or other liquids. Many years ago some people had real problems with aluminium double glazing secured with stainless steel screws, the aluminium corroding around the screws, I leave you to picture the result. I guess Alde will say that their antifreeze and use of deionised water will prevent that corrosion. Unfortunately without knowing where it was leaking and the metals used in the construction, aluminium? copper?, stainless steel? it is just another possibility. As is the rogue electric current and good that they are checking that out for you, however, if that is the cause, all I can say is there are a lot of rogue electric currents about judging by Google search results. Anyway I hope you can get a more satisfactory answer, after forking out £1,400 you need assurance that it's not going to happen again anytime soon. Good luck on getting your van back soon and get mobile again.

Galvanic contaminants, I believe are particles which would allow galvanic action, within the fluid I.e. a battery eccentially being set up causing galvanic corrision, like that caused by dissimilar metals in contact, causing corrosion at that point, with the fluid then being the electrolyte.
Hi ,Rob n Lynn, do you ever sanitize yor water system every year ,if so it is only recommended you use puriclean as this doe not damage your boiler ,hope this helps .
We had the Fluid changed from the Blue to Pink 18ths ago on our caravans Alde system for £150 by a mobile engineer! The van is 24ft long ,so probably around the same size system as yours , £290 to refill your van seems a bit expensive 😮

I’ve owned my present motorhome 2 winters from brand new in 2022 and facing a 2nd winter with no heating. 1st winter due to the Alde automatic air bleed valve dumping all the fluid on the floor, luckily outside. This winter december 2023 the boiler has burst and dumped all the fluid inside and soaked both floors, batteries and everything in the underfloor lockers 😢 Luckily we are/were in Spain this and last time so we haven’t frozen solid but it’s extremely disheartening 2 years running, and a brand new £160k motorhome having these issues is not funny Alde 3020 boiler btw Luckily it’s under warranty and i’m pushing for a new 3030 boiler this time. I feel your pain tbh, i’m gutted and you’ll be also if truth be known, 3 1/2 years is nothing for a boiler, 18mths…….. can you imagine how we feel 😮 Anyway chin up and onwards and upwards as they say and I hope all goes well for you. BTW. Alde told me last winter that adding water to the system wouldn’t harm it in anyway shape or form whilst we were in Spain so very conflicting stories don’t you think 🤔
Lynn, on a lighter note is there a pub called the Bell or similar close to the river at Stourport or nearby. I'm going back 55+ years but I used to drive their regularly from Birmingham in my teens for a pint or two (no restrictions then). It may have been the Angel as from memory it looks the same sort of location but the name isn't ringing any bells. TA. Dave
It would be interesting to see photos of the corroded area. What was the metal that corroded . Any 2 types of metal in contact with each other with some moisture present will create a galvanic couple.One of the metals will become the anode and will corrode faster than it would otherwise. This is what might have happened in your case.

Hi guys, i’ve had some involvement with this fluid on a professional level, and this fluid should be mixed with Distilled water not tap water, if you use tap water you will get corrosion, ie did swift use distilled when your van was built?

We had a Autograph 745 ,when it went for the habitation check they pointed out our Alde fluid was discoloured and needed changing .We were offered by Brownhills a two year or 5 year product. We went for the 5 year at £250.00 2 years ago . Yes we’ve had a hab check done every year since we bought it, and nothing has ever been picked up on the fluid, the last hab check was done in July, it’s something we need to ask, Aww hope you your day gets better, and he’s just sang it, 🙈🙈🙈 sorry you didn’t hear it 🤣🤣🤣xx
Hi Rob and Lynn has you know we had the same happen how’re dealer got the report back they said it was a manufacturing problem so how’re dealer has passed on the cost for the damage to the furniture to alde we know how frustrating it is not getting the right answers
Hi - in UK law the length of warranty is a guide only and what you pay for an item and, therefore, what you should expect come into play. If swift used the correct 5 year anti freeze then you shouldn’t have to pay for this. A legal letter (through your insurance) should un-block this. I had a Smeg range cooker that went pop after 13 months. Smeg initially resisted replacement but after the legal position was pointed out - replaced the whole thing.
Rob , I have news for you on the age front i'm coming 62 at the end of march you will end up with more chins than a chinese phone book and bits either dont work or fall off !! lol. Though my mate who carries a bit more weight than me tells me theres no wrinkles' in a balloon. Have to say a great vlog and very interesting as we are looking for our first van in 20 years. As someone who has worked in the plumbing and heating trade for 47 years at best there reply is smoke and mirrors at worst it's BS, antifreeze is essentially ethylene glycol mild odour sweet taste ( hence you dog liking it) it's a sealed system for air to get in to cause corrosion the system has to be leaking.

Hi,R&L. corrosion in boilers can be caused by differential metals in there construction so (electrolysis is the act or process of chemical decomposition, by the action of electricity.) check the parts list and types of metals they where made of.
Crazy thought if you had scallop or yourself put the proper fluid in, would you have a register receipt showing what brand was used? If they blame the fluid as not the recommended one. Just wondering

Hi guys thanks for sharing and this boiler situation does not have a very nice feel to it, Like others have said something is badly wrong with the manufacturers excuses and I would complain in the strongest terms to Alde, stating that it does not appear that this boiler has been manufactured to a merchantable standard and that you feel Trading Standards should now be involed as you have both follwed their instructions to letter by having it serviced yearly by an approved dealer. This is not going to do Alde any good what so ever and shame on them for their pathetic excuses, Replace this Alde free of charge and show you care about your customers and have faith in your product.

Two take always from this so far 1. SHUT UP ROBERT! 2. I won’t be having a van with wet heating any time. It’s good you’re getting to the bottom of this. It is possible that this corrosion started just before the van warranty expired. 👍👍👍 roll on next week!👍👍

Hopefully, you both get back on your travels soon. Personally, I think Salop have done everything to help you get back on the road. Alde, however, could have been more open in their findings with the boiler. At the end of the day, the boiler is just out of warranty. Baring in mind, you couldn't use the Motorhome for atleast 12 months of that warranty due to the Lockdown. Come on, Alde, be fair.

Glad I am not married anymore. But Rob should let you speak before he does, but I know he would find that very hard 😂. Like you I am having trouble with my motorhome drop down bed, the motor is to slow, also having trouble with the dealer dragging their feet on sorting it out, so know how frustrating it can be.

If any after market electicals have been fitted,ie batteries or chargers, they can cause electrolysis to any conductive materials, So if the van is as its left the factory you can rule that out
Thing is you have done all the right stuff and there fluid has still caused the issue. Your home boiler gets 7 years. It’s a sealed system, they should meet you half way. You be careful mixing your fluids 😂😂😂😂😂. Ha ho back on the road soon 🎉
Hi ... Firstly are you aware that your consumers rights protect you up to six years with the seller. Even if it means a contribution ... The Alde fluid in my van from factory had a two year life span. I had to pay £220 to have it replaced at its two year service for long life 5 year Alde fluid. Don't ask me why the manufacturer couldn't fit the 5 year anti freeze at build ... Electrosis lowers the pH levels in water and it's always mostly DC current, so this would be your 12 system. The thing with Alde heating pipes is that they have rubber hose pipes connecting the metal pipes which would stop any current flowing around the system. Though there maybe current escaping around the boiler unit itself but I doubt it very much 😉 They can check for voltage drops on any associated wiring to the boiler and to any fresh water holding tanks... Personally if it was definitely corrosion I think it's due to the antifreeze mix but if you've followed the manufacturers service schedules and recommendations I would exercise your consumer rights 👍

If the Fluid is good for 5 years then assuming the System has never been topped up with anything else! Then there should not be any corrosion problems, unless the corrosion inhibitors are NOT all that good?? They seem to be suggesting the blame is on wiring running alongside the pipes etc? There should not be any need to top up the system because it shouldn't evaporate especially in a sealed system! So if the fluid is no good then it ought to be a Warranty fix in my opinion! You mentioned you keep cleaning products in a Draw above the Boiler, I just wondered if something like bleach leaked out on to it whilst going over bumps etc, causing possible corrosion?? They didn't say if the corrosion was inside out???
How I see it folks, the boiler is not fit for purpose. I would take some legal advice. Your issue is with Salop they sold you the van. If you purchase a TV and it breaks down after 18 months. Your legally entitled to have it repaired for free. The 12 month guarantee is extended .Because it’s not fit for purpose, the TV is expected to last longer than 12 months. If you purchase a £15 iron . That’s when the 12 month guarantee applies. Seems a bit strange ,Salop are getting you involved with the boiler manufacturer. Hope it all gets sorted for you.

@@RobandLynnontour only difference is the display has changed in the Alde screen and it shows how many hours is left on the Alde water filter I had fitted at the same time if I didn’t upgrade to the 3030 I would have the filter display in the garage showing when the filter needed changing

Hi Rob & Lynn ,its lovely to hear your getting your motorhome back ,& hopefully you take them to court because this is there incompetence that has caused this to happen ,but i am also glad to hear that you will keep your motorhome & not change it ! ,so sorry i haven't text you of late ,but i have had double pneumonia, & my eye OP couldn't go ahead on the same day as Carlys birthday, so it was a hospital night i never wish to repeat again , but the ambulance team were lovely, & got me on a machine to help me breathe before i left for the hospital, then i was blue lighted off after my doctors told my daughter Carly to call for the ambulance, then to be told that there were know hospital beds, & they took me to general A& E to be seen, i waited 9hrs to be seen before given antibiotics, & was told to go home & rest for 2 weeks, but even now i am still not right ,i will need other things like xrays & things done but @ an out patients appointment, & my doctors have given me 2 different antibiotics so far & it still hasn't cleared up ,my cough is like a dog barking its dreadful, & i carnt get to the loo before i am out of breath, but on a more positive note Carly did have her mom for her birthday on the 1st of February so i am happy for her as she had a lovely time & a Harry Potter bithday cake & lots of new clothes, hope you 2 are soon cuddled up together in your Motorhome, Carnt wait to see you on the road again ,all our love Linda & Carly Dunn from Newport Shropshire xxxxx❤😊

Hi and no problem at all, it’s pink in ours, the one with apparently a 5 year old life span
Ours is a Germany van and at 2 year old we took it to Alde for its service. Was informed by them that companies use their own brand antifreeze which is a different colour to what they use. They knew from just seeing the colour of our anti freeze that it might only have a two year life span and advised to change it to their own and it would be fine for 5 years. These manufacturers do not inform Alde of what they’re using and will not use the recommended anti freeze from Alde.
It’s due this year and we will be returning it to them to have it done again wouldn’t take it anywhere else. They are brilliant to deal with Xx

It was only because we had just bought Queen Bee and we was having everything checked over that we called them direct we wasn’t aware that we could go direct to them and there no dearer than say using someone else.

Silly really it’s Alde’ s boiler but manufacturers refuse to tell them what they use 🤷🏼♀️.
💰 me thinks as it’s cheaper to use a inferior produt that only last 2 years. No one tells you this !

Hi . Our globetrotter is a German van. When we got it we noticed that it had Blue.... fluid in it . And we are aware that adl3 stopped doing the blue fluid at least 8 years ago so we have had the fluid changed to the pink . Worth it just for peace of mind..... the bill for the flyid change was newrly £400 and that was mostly for the fluid.. it is expensive stuff for the alde fluid. Hope that you get the van back and are back on the road soon.....

Hi Guys, many years ago new household Combi boilers were having early life failures due to corrosion, in an effort to save money they made the heat exchangers out of mild steel 😮 ! Of course it rusted through.
Nowadays the heat exchangers are now Stainless Steel, and even our well priced Baxi boiler came with a 7 year warranty 😀. It would be a travesty if Alde are using mild steel in their boilers ? knowing the problems 🤔 and how much they cost .
Wonder if the 3.0 version has been quietly upgraded to Stainless ? Might be worth asking ?

Is it worth asking if Alde could keep your boiler and show you it and talk you through what happened when you go up there? It’s a pity they couldn’t do more as it’s only just out of warranty and technically in the Alde guarantee hope that this makes sense!

Hi guys, just had our alde heating fluid changed to the pink 5 year type when our hab check was done. To my knowledge all the new vans come with the blue 2 year fluid fitted. Ours had the blue in so is now changed to the longer life pink type. Done at home by an alde approved engineer for £195.00 not sure where the dealer is getting theres from at £270.00 for just the fluid. And ours has had the correct pink alde 5 year type fitted. Anyway glad your getting sorted 👍🏻

The dog part is frightening, so happy a full recovery, don't bare thinking about. I look back at my old vw t5 , I used and abused that van for 13 years, she never complained, odd times she turned over so slowly, but always fired up. My 3 year old fiat ducato given me the engine management light once and decided not to start once. Do I love her? yes, reluctantly I do. Do I trust her? no. Modern stuff, great features etc, reliability, lets just say AI (Artificial intelligence) It wont be taking over the world any time soon. hehe. Love your videos. hi thanks for info, strangely enough our boiler has developed an issue today and will need replacing our engineer says it has the blue fluid in it, we only got the van in sept 23, and was hab checked by the dealer before collection, the engineer says that the fluid could have corroded the pipes within the boiler,so we feel your pain, we will wait for the engineer to give us a full report when he can start the repair/replacement, hope your bus is ok when you have it back, thanks colin.

I don’t think any reasonable person would expect a boiler to corrode through in under 4 years in such an expensive system
Small claims court might be a way forward, because their guidance for compensation is if any reasonable person believes an item should last longer than it has especially considering the considerable cost of the boiler

I’ve been looking through paperwork relating to my caravan, it was manufactured in May2019 so the boiler will be older than that because I would imagine Swift buy them in bulk from Alde…….also we had the blue fluid (2 year stuff) as Swift didn’t start using pink until after our caravan was manufactured. We changed to the 5 year pink at the 2nd service……just something else for you to ponder👍…hope you are both well and not too stressed 👍

As an aside. Do you have legal expenses cover on your van insurance. As a retired insurance broker, this type of cover is exactly for this kind of thing to assist with advice to help pursue the manufacturer. You have done everything correctly, so it should be covered and they should cover all other expenses such as cleaning.
On a separate point. The antidote to anti freeze ingestion is whisky. Its what the hospital give in case of ingestion

Your van insurance should cover cost of resultant damage from the leak but not the boiler itself. So if carpets and or flooring needed to be cleaned or replaced. The legal expenses cover would advise and if need please appoint one of their solicitors to assist.

Hi rob and Lynn, just a suggestion that may help you, I fitted a leak detector at my water boiler which if it gets wet will sound an alarm, my boiler is inaccessible so the alarm which is powered by batteries does at least monitor things for me. Maybe it could be something you could try 😊

Many thanks for this latest update; I along with others also believe that this is two organisations who are ripping you off. The simple tactic is that that they blame each other and then it becomes your problem to resolve by paying stupid amounts of money to fix the issue.
I must say that I am concerned that my 2023 Homer only comes with a 2 year guarantee. Keep asking the awkward questions and seriously fighting the money grabbing charges that the dealers want to charge us.

Sorry to hear about all your Alde boiler problems I think as probably a lot of other people do the manufacturers should replace it free of charges. After all it’s not old although out of warranty firstly the maintenance schedule has been followed with proof ;secondly the fluid is antifreeze which contains ethanol and anti corrosive inhibitors so how on earth are they saying corrosion ??. Thirdly I am very glad that your dog has recovered and well as stated earlier antifreeze has chemicals in and with your massive leak over the floor the dog has probably licked it up. Hope you get it all resolved quickly and start to once again enjoy your camping many happy miles.

Dave said if it is electrolysis, is it because the circulation pump has a short, or that the lithium, which has slightly higher voltage is causing an issue? As the boiler is stainless, have you used any water purifying say tablets or solutions that are alkaline based as that would corrode stainless? E.g. if you've used alkaline water purifying tablets in the fresh-water tank that water will be taken into the boiler. So they need to be chlorine free. Our understanding was that the anti freeze checks should be undertaken as part of the servicing, e.g.hydrometer used.

Hi both, a very informative video on the Alde issue, we had the Alde heating in our last 2 tourers and I must admit we had no issues but did have the anti freeze changed at the recommended intervals by Salop, we have the motorhome now with the Truma heating. Regarding Salop can’t fault their after sales service. Are there any touring sites near where you were filming from? Steve (met on the car park at Salop a couple of weeks ago)

Rob and Lynn , glycol cylinder are made of aluminium (I thought) so should be corrosion here to some degree, the cylinder which contains the gas burner and electric elements to heat the glycol within the cylinder which is pumped around the system.
Question is why has this corroded within this short time with the correct glycol approved fluid used.
Galvanic corrosion is caused by copper particles within the heating system ( generally) ?.

Reason was even though we had emptied the water system of water for winter 🥶.
There clearly must of been water that was held inside the boiler which caused an issue..
Whether the remaining water 💦 had frozen to cause the issue or lying water to cause corrosion it was a problem for Alda in our opinion..
But unfortunately we had to take it to Kettering in Cambridge to there service centre for a new boiler..
Believe then it was around a £1k..
The sterling was 10 months out of warranty.
We were fuming..
Thing is we’re now in a buccaneer 23 model with Alda heating..
Thing is we only own caravans under warranty so on its 2 nd birthday it’s gone..

Hi Rob and Lynn. In my opinion you are being treated very poorly by both Alde and Salop. The fact that you are only six months out of warranty and with such a catastrophic failure I would have expected a company with the status of Alde to have carried out the repair free of charge as a good will gesture at the very least. The reasons they have put forward as to the cause of the corrosion are outside of your control. If there is a risk of damage because of electrical connections or any other factors etc then this is something that Swift should have factored in when designing your motorhome to ensure that this sort of damage could not occur.

Hi again. Just looked at Alde's service manual which states "The ethylene glycol mixture has to be changed every other year, since properties such as corrosion protection, deteriorate over time. If Alde Premium Antifreeze is used, the interval for changing the mixture can be extended to max 5 years under normal operating conditions" Therefore I would check with Swift to confirm which type of antifreeze they used initially when building the vehicle. Hi both, great vlog as usual. Few thoughts on your boiler leak. Firstly can Alde give you a photo of the area of the leak, doesn't need to be from your actual boiler, they must have one they can photograph. From the Alde spec of the 3020 boiler it mentions the combustion chamber is made of aluminium but no mention of what the other tanks or pipes are made of. Interesting they mentioned galvanic corrosion, I learned very early in my engineering days that you don't use aluminium and stainless steel together especially if in contact with water or other liquids. Many years ago some people had real problems with aluminium double glazing secured with stainless steel screws, the aluminium corroding around the screws, I leave you to picture the result. I guess Alde will say that their antifreeze and use of deionised water will prevent that corrosion. Unfortunately without knowing where it was leaking and the metals used in the construction, aluminium? copper?, stainless steel? it is just another possibility. As is the rogue electric current and good that they are checking that out for you, however, if that is the cause, all I can say is there are a lot of rogue electric currents about judging by Google search results. Anyway I hope you can get a more satisfactory answer, after forking out £1,400 you need assurance that it's not going to happen again anytime soon. Good luck on getting your van back soon and get mobile again.

Galvanic contaminants, I believe are particles which would allow galvanic action, within the fluid I.e. a battery eccentially being set up causing galvanic corrision, like that caused by dissimilar metals in contact, causing corrosion at that point, with the fluid then being the electrolyte.

Hi ,Rob n Lynn, do you ever sanitize yor water system every year ,if so it is only recommended you use puriclean as this doe not damage your boiler ,hope this helps .

We had the Fluid changed from the Blue to Pink 18ths ago on our caravans Alde system for £150 by a mobile engineer!
The van is 24ft long ,so probably around the same size system as yours , £290 to refill your van seems a bit expensive 😮

I’ve owned my present motorhome 2 winters from brand new in 2022 and facing a 2nd winter with no heating.
1st winter due to the Alde automatic air bleed valve dumping all the fluid on the floor, luckily outside.
This winter december 2023 the boiler has burst and dumped all the fluid inside and soaked both floors, batteries and everything in the underfloor lockers 😢
Luckily we are/were in Spain this and last time so we haven’t frozen solid but it’s extremely disheartening 2 years running, and a brand new £160k motorhome having these issues is not funny

It would be interesting to see photos of the corroded area. What was the metal that corroded . Any 2 types of metal in contact with each other with some moisture present will create a galvanic couple.One of the metals will become the anode and will corrode faster than it would otherwise. This is what might have happened in your case.

Hi guys, i’ve had some involvement with this fluid on a professional level, and this fluid should be mixed with Distilled water not tap water, if you use tap water you will get corrosion, ie did swift use distilled when your van was built?

We had a Autograph 745 ,when it went for the habitation check they pointed out our Alde fluid was discoloured and needed changing .We were offered by Brownhills a two year or 5 year product. We went for the 5 year at £250.00 2 years ago . Yes we’ve had a hab check done every year since we bought it, and nothing has ever been picked up on the fluid, the last hab check was done in July, it’s something we need to ask,

Hi - in UK law the length of warranty is a guide only and what you pay for an item and, therefore, what you should expect come into play. If swift used the correct 5 year anti freeze then you shouldn’t have to pay for this. A legal letter (through your insurance) should un-block this. I had a Smeg range cooker that went pop after 13 months. Smeg initially resisted replacement but after the legal position was pointed out - replaced the whole thing.

Have to say a great vlog and very interesting as we are looking for our first van in 20 years. As someone who has worked in the plumbing and heating trade for 47 years at best there reply is smoke and mirrors at worst it's BS, antifreeze is essentially ethylene glycol mild odour sweet taste ( hence you dog liking it) it's a sealed system for air to get in to cause corrosion the system has to be leaking.

Hi,R&L. corrosion in boilers can be caused by differential metals in there construction so (electrolysis is the act or process of chemical decomposition, by the action of electricity.)
check the parts list and types of metals they where made of.

Hi guys thanks for sharing and this boiler situation does not have a very nice feel to it, Like others have said something is badly wrong with the manufacturers excuses and I would complain in the strongest terms to Alde, stating that it does not appear that this boiler has been manufactured to a merchantable standard and that you feel Trading Standards should now be involed as you have both follwed their instructions to letter by having it serviced yearly by an approved dealer. This is not going to do Alde any good what so ever and shame on them for their pathetic excuses, Replace this Alde free of charge and show you care about your customers and have faith in your product.

At the end of the day, the boiler is just out of warranty. Baring in mind, you couldn't use the Motorhome for atleast 12 months of that warranty due to the Lockdown.

If any after market electicals have been fitted,ie batteries or chargers, they can cause electrolysis to any conductive materials,
So if the van is as its left the factory you can rule that out

Thing is you have done all the right stuff and there fluid has still caused the issue. Your home boiler gets 7 years. It’s a sealed system, they should meet you half way. You be careful mixing your fluids 😂😂😂😂😂. Ha ho back on the road soon 🎉

Hi ... Firstly are you aware that your consumers rights protect you up to six years with the seller. Even if it means a contribution ... The Alde fluid in my van from factory had a two year life span. I had to pay £220 to have it replaced at its two year service for long life 5 year Alde fluid. Don't ask me why the manufacturer couldn't fit the 5 year anti freeze at build ... Electrosis lowers the pH levels in water and it's always mostly DC current, so this would be your 12 system. The thing with Alde heating pipes is that they have rubber hose pipes connecting the metal pipes which would stop any current flowing around the system. Though there maybe current escaping around the boiler unit itself but I doubt it very much 😉 They can check for voltage drops on any associated wiring to the boiler and to any fresh water holding tanks... Personally if it was definitely corrosion I think it's due to the antifreeze mix but if you've followed the manufacturers service schedules and recommendations I would exercise your consumer rights 👍

If the Fluid is good for 5 years then assuming the System has never been topped up with anything else! Then there should not be any corrosion problems, unless the corrosion inhibitors are NOT all that good?? They seem to be suggesting the blame is on wiring running alongside the pipes etc? There should not be any need to top up the system because it shouldn't evaporate especially in a sealed system! So if the fluid is no good then it ought to be a Warranty fix in my opinion! You mentioned you keep cleaning products in a Draw above the Boiler, I just wondered if something like bleach leaked out on to it whilst going over bumps etc, causing possible corrosion?? They didn't say if the corrosion was inside out???

How I see it folks, the boiler is not fit for purpose. I would take some legal advice.
Your issue is with Salop they sold you the van.
If you purchase a TV and it breaks down after 18 months. Your legally entitled to have it repaired for free. The 12 month guarantee is extended .Because it’s not fit for purpose, the TV is expected to last longer than 12 months.
If you purchase a £15 iron . That’s when the 12 month guarantee applies.
Seems a bit strange ,Salop are getting you involved with the boiler manufacturer.

Because it isn't just antifreeze, it also contains corrosion inhibitor to stop parts corroding.

@@RobandLynnontour only difference is the display has changed in the Alde screen and it shows how many hours is left on the Alde water filter I had fitted at the same time if I didn’t upgrade to the 3030 I would have the filter display in the garage showing when the filter needed changing
